Bonehead award
I must claim the bone head award of the week. I set a task force of DD's to bombard an enemy base and failed to set retire...oh yeah did I pay for it. Scratch one DD task force. It was pounced on by enemy LBA and CV's.
I just hate it when I do that!

RE: Bonehead award
You shall not hold that bonehead award for long, I shall snatch it from you with all the attendant accolades.

I would never do anything like that.

"No, Jerry, I am King of the Idiots."
PbeM vs Lokasenna. I have his CV TFs spotted; I have several TFs, including an important cruiser TF, near Fiji or approaching. "Ah, ha, need to reroute these guys."
Make all the decisions on the Turn & End Turn - without doing the one thing I wanted to do. Result? Destruction and mayhem at Fiji, entirely needless. No, Jerry, I am King of the Idiots.

[8|][:D][:D]...

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life

But I was hoping for so much more

The only saving grace for you is to know that you are certainly NOT alone.... We've all been there, done that.

Does knowingly entering a full scall CV battle - after triplechecking everything - with your TBs set to navS count?

Were they TBDs? They weren't going to hit anything anyway [:D]. Probably get better use out of them on NavS.
RE: Bonehead award
I thought for sure you guys had my picture posted when I saw bonehead.

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

RE: Bonehead award
Nope, about 300 Avengers with a healthy percentage of 1C versions, uniform ~70 skill crews and 0 fat. All set to NavS as primary and 30% search. It was the Helldiver crews that saved the day back then.
Do I qualify?

Vision check time!
Test game against AI. Tarawa falls, but there is another TF heding for Makin which has only one Nv Gsn unit defending.
Enemy TF lacking CV protection (enemy CV's now south of Tarawa, heading SE). KB in the area testing new formations against enemy subs with 13 flight decks (4 light, 2 Hiyo class and 7 full sized) and sprints to position north of Makin, intending to sink the amphibs before landing.
Strike, perfectly co-ordinated, goes in with 200 fighters escorting 400 strike planes.;
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Makin at 136,125
Weather in hex: Overcast
Raid detected at 110 NM, estimated altitude 21,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 28 minutes
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 11
A6M3a Zero x 118
A6M5 Zero x 95
B5N1 Kate x 16
B5N2 Kate x 154
D4Y1 Judy x 233
Japanese aircraft losses
B5N2 Kate: 3 damaged
Allied Ships
DD Ammen
CL Leander, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
CM Terror
DD Gillespie
LSD Carter Hall, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DD Barton
DD Renshaw
LST-31
LST-17
KV Chilliwack
Aircraft Attacking:
29 x D4Y1 Judy bombing from 18000 feet
Naval Attack: 1 x 500 kg SAP Bomb
Yeah... I did check. Twice. Pressed "All Carrier Dive Bombers In Hex"- button and then confirmed from another TF's Judy squardon that altitude was set to 13'000 feet. So three checks and still managed to launch worst carrier strike ever and Makin falls. [:(]

Sen Toku, you don't seriously think you can contend with a lame performance like this? To win the highest award, the "Bonehead Award First Class" you must do much better than that. You're describing indescribably bad luck. You clearly don't have the stuff to compete for the high accolades in boneheadedness. I declare you unseeded in this tournament.
My own entry here is when I sent a minelaying TF with about 300 mines going to one of my newly aquired bases, but due to a enemy surface threat, I diverted them to a hex elsewhere to wait for the threat to go away. I forgot to turn off "lay mines" so they dumped them all in the middle of the Pacific. Sea turtles (you know how long they live) are still telling that story and laughing their tails off. I fear that this alone will not bring me the Bonehead Award, but I will re-double my efforts!
RE: Bonehead award
Is that why sea turtles have such short tails?
