Hard to Get Units Moving??

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Hard to Get Units Moving??

Post by Marshal Villars »

I was a real fan of this series for some time. And I bought 2-3 versions to keep development going to get it to be all it could be. But after the release of BFTB, I kind of gave up because I felt that I could give units orders to move and too often they would sit there and run circles and not move -- often for days. I caught a lot of this behavior with screen shots, but didn't feel much was done about it. After giving orders for an assault, I literally saw units head to their FUP and then they would shift and head to FUP again and shift again and head to FUP. It was a bit exasperating.

Has this been addressed since I dropped out of here about 2 years ago?

Again, excellent series. I hope this game system reaches its full potential soon. :)

A fan.

I have never once seen this happen, so I assume it has been fixed since I purchased in January 2013.

This problem haunted Dave for quite a while, but it's been gone since at least late 2012 or so. I'd recommend you to try the latest beta patch.

I've not seen anything like that I'd have thought was a bug except perhaps when commanding above battalion level. The AI can be very hesitant and changes plans often especially in assault so you despair of it acting accomplishing anything. Battalion and below it's better than ever with many new features and although there are bugs the game is stable and bugs not too bothersome with a patch in the pipeline to address the worse.

I hate to ask this, but where do I find *the most recent* patch?

Yes, I agree it happened most often over battalion level. But the game does say that we can give orders at any level we like.

It should be available from the Member's download area, see directions here

And you can. Another thing is that you're happy with the plan that the AI comes up with (a plan which depends a lot amongst other things on commanders' traits such as "judgement" and the amount and quality of intel the side has about enemy positions).

Long time fixed. Sounds similar to the 'waiting' bug also, which is also long time fixed. Try it again!

Though that said, you might notice slightly similar behaviour on giving a defend order at the end of a move chain (prolonged time before it's executed) until the latest patch is out, as there's a bug which sometimes makes the units accrue orders delay twice, in effect on defend orders. Fixed, but we haven't got the patch yet.

The slow movement/lockups are still there - I also stopped playing mostly because of this.

With the 264 build? If so, I'd kindly invite you to post a saved game in the Tech Support forum leading to that, taken right after you give the orders (so the AI hasn't developed the plan).

Thank you.

I too put the game series aside about 3 years ago.

When you zoom in on the map, do the counters remain the same size as they have done in the past?

It has always meant that when you zoom in a few counters can cover many square kilometres!

I too put the game aside. Currently its the supply issue that keeps me away from playing it. Iam always under the impression that once an issue is fixed a new one pops up

Although Support from Panther Games is second to none, I do have to agree with this statement.

Yes, I usually fired up the Höfen scenario after each patch to see what had changed. I would have loved to give you an example, but unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to download my game any longer, and after spending half an hour trying to get it, I gave up. So I don't really want to spend more time with this game, since I lost interest in it some time ago.

It still sometimes happens with the current version. Often there is an observable reason, though there are a few mystery ones. I'll post saves/recordings when I get the next one.

Brigade and higher HQ's don't like to come within a km or two of the enemy, so if your force is commanded by an HQ of that level, it may explain the waiting.

We badly need those, David. These "locking up" problems are perceived as one single issue, but actually there have been quite few "kinds" of such problems, which Dave have been solving progressively as more detailed feedback is gathered. And then there are the WAD "lock ups" which I think need to be explained to the player through the User Interface.

Because as soon as one issue is dealt with, an old one which had gone unnoticed (or unreported) gets the attention of the community and is brought forward.

If Dave keeps asking for beta-testers isn't because of fancy - at the moment there are four or five active beta testers, which I think it's insufficient.

I'm just awaiting access to the dev forum so there's some help coming soon (I hope [;)])

Good [:)] I hope you'll keenly appreciate why took so long to see through the Chuck Norris Armoured Car problem.

I dare say I will. [&o]

I didn't think took it too long though and I hope to speed up the release of the patch.
