You are being counted towards the number of direct contact hours for my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). Its taken a while to get your "Narssy" more manageable so that Paula can live with you. [:D]

I'm lurking on both AARs, so that means no "real" commenting in either unfortunately.

John -

Just started reading last night, this is one campaign I will follow.

While I am technically competent, I am not in the Big Boy's league (of which you, Sir, are one!) when it comes to experience, strategy and sheer play time.

Thus said, I will be honored to but read and learn.

Combat Report
December 29, 1941

Interesting turn just played earlier this evening.

North Pacific
In a very---shall I say...INTERESTING move, a carrier strike of 11 F4F and 12 SBD hit Umnak. Is this CLV Charlotte (doubtful) or a CVE? Don't know. Long way from anything important so I guess this is OK...

Central Pacific
Load one of the two SNLF Assault Brigades and get ready to smack Johnson. Why NOT? Don't want it but shall serve to keep the enemies eyes fixed on the Hawaii Area.

Palmyra
The Invasion shall land tomorrow and it is spotted and then attacked by 5 PBY each phase. One AK is hit and 35 Casualties are caused. Separate 2 CA, 1 CL, and 3 DD into a Bombardment TF while 1 CA, 1 CL, and 3 DD provide Invasion Coverage.

CARDIV1
The TF race north and will be in strike range tomorrow. Separate CV Ryujo from the TF so it can replenish its sorties.

SE Pacific
After causing some serious chaos in this region, it gets to settle into a bit of peace while the Line Islands takes center stage.

South Pacific
There is a TF of CL Leander and Adelaide just simply sitting at my Lae base. Been there for three DAYS! Gonna have to do something about that...

Philippines
An ID arrives at Manila. It will be joined by another, 3 Ind Eng Reg, and 8 Artillery units tomorrow.

Take Malaybalay. Resistance at Mindanao is now DONE. The Tank Reg, 90th Inf Reg, SNLF Paras, and an SNLF Assault Brigade are now free, once shipping is available, to start conquest of the Eastern DEI.

Eastern DEI
Take Loewoek, Celebes

Central DEI
Take Samarinda. More troops and shipping due to arrive over the next couple of days and then we'll move on.

Sumatra
An Inf Reg moves out from Palembang to grab everything heading for Benkoelen.

The Cocos IF moves past Merak--Oosthaven. It is preceded by two BB Bombardment TF.

Java
CARDIV2 smacks shipping at Soerabaja smashing AD Black Hawk while shooting down about 10 Dutch Fighters.

Order CARDIV2 to Oosthaven and we'll get ready for a visit into the Indian Ocean.

Malaya
Hex 50,74 (west of Georgetown) is taken by Imperial Guards. The ID moves south while a Naval Guard heads for Georgetown.

All Singapore troops will be concentrated at Johore Bharu tomorrow. Will move to cross directly after that.

Burma
Set-Up a CAP Trap at Rahaeng. The Allies have finally discovered that they have a unit called the AVG and they want to play with it. A squadron sweeps this base twice and I move in 27 Zero and another 18 Oscars. Set them to 100% CAP. We'll see if we can bag some AVG!

China
Loyang
An Inf Div and two Brigades cross the river and get a 1-2 attack. Forts are 1 so this should fall. In the meantime two ID prepare to enter town next to Loyang. The pair of cities shall be completely surrounded in two days.

Drive the last troops from in front of Changsha. Preparing to enter the city hex in 4-5 days.

Engineering
Nagasaki AF-4

Strategy
1. CVL Nisshin and 2 DD depart the Home Islands to join-up with CARDIV2.
2. Had a lengthy discussion with my senior Imperial General Headquarters Logistics leader and we chatted about THE PLAN. Everything hinges on Singapore falling quickly. If it does, as I expect, we shall immediately begin the operation to take Western Australia. A force of 2-3 ID--with plenty of Support Units--will form the initial landing strength. More units will be fed into the fray as they become available. Manila will be left to whither on the vine for a while and two ID shall be pulled from Luzon ASAP. We'll grab bases to form an air bridge for moving aircraft into the region and plan to use Paras for maximum chaos when ready.
3. A new, SUPER BOLD Operation is now being discussed. It shall remain confidential. Name is Operation Whirlwind.
4. The Line Islands will be taken, there shall be a short operational pause, and then we move WAY south.

How is that???

Pago Pago, the Society Islands and then the Gambier Islands (or the Cooks and the Australs)
means that shipping cant get to NZ or Oz from the CONUS. That would be interesting.

The Game BEGINS

Post by John 3rd »

December 30, 1941

Palmyra

The Invasion of Palmyra goes without major crisis on the 30th. The STF of 2 CA, 1 CL, and 2 DD sink an AP present and then the landing occurs. The American Forces are overwhelmed by the elite Imperial Guards Brigade. NINE more PBY are destroyed when the base falls. GREAT!

An Allied STF of one CL and 4 DD end just a hex from Palmyra. I choose to send the Japanese warships to link-up with the Christmas Island IF instead of fight. Disband the Invasion Force into Port so his Strike Force will find nothing. Prefer my Carrier Air to SINK these ships then risk getting my small Surface Task Group getting damaged. Don't really have a lot of warships out here...

Line Islands
Air Search shows several TF in the area. CARDIV1 ends about 5 hexes SSW of Christmas. It is not spotted. Tomorrow the strikes will fly and we'll sink more enemy shipping.

Malaya
Johore Bharu
With three cries to the Emperor, the Imperial Army begins its approach to Singapore. Three Infantry Divisions, 8 Artillery units, and 3 Ind Engineering Regiments advance...

Shanghai
Two Fast AP--AK TF load the 11th--12th--13th Independent Regiments (all 80+ Skill). These units will garrison Midway--Palmyra--Christmas. They are probable sacrificial lambs in the greater game but for now they will provide PLENTY of strength to hold the newly taken bases of the Central Pacific.

Manchuria
The deception plan begins as 8 Infantry Divisions begin planning to take: Koggala, Vizagatapan (Sp?), Calcutta, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Townsville. This is an element of Operation Whirlwind...

Question for those using John's (JWE/Symon) new ATA. What do you find for your best altitude setting with Zeros?

I tried 18,000 to start with but they seem to be doing better flying at 22,000.

What works for you?

New Year's Eve 1941

Post by John 3rd »

Combat Report
December 31, 1941

A fairly wild round in the books this day.

North Pacific
The CV (Saratoga??) that hit Umnak yesterday disappears.

Central Pacific
Midway
Lose a CM at Midway due to THREE successful US Sub TTs! Didn't know the Americans had three working Torps in their ENTIRE inventory! [8D]

Johnston
The CVE TF moves just about 9 hexes west of this atoll and then begins moving in a SSE direction. It is watched by PBYs. The SNLF Assault Brigade departed Midway and will hit this target in 3 days.

Palmyra
Despite ordering my CA TF away from the base, the Japanese cruisers decide to stay and FIGHT the incoming Americans. A long gunnery duel results (11 Rounds) with little damage done to either side. A Japanese CA, CL, and DD are lightly damaged while CL's Concord and Honolulu get hit several times. Totally inconclusive fight that wasn't supposed to happen.

CARDIV1
The Japanese CVs arrive on scene just two hexes West of Christmas Isle and find ripe pickings trying to unload there! A morning and afternoon raid of roughly equal size (25 Z, 40 Val, and 27 Kate) SINK DD's Smith and Hart as well as the fully loaded APs: Tjisadene and Zaandam. When the APs sink they take with them 680+ Troops, 267 Guns, and 90 Vehicles. NICE! Looks like we sank and destroyed an entire CD unit of some sort. How about that?!!

Sorties are getting downright scary with Akagi--Kaga--Zuiho but we'll stay on station to Cover the upcoming landing. Multiple convoys still in range so we'll move NNE some to see if more can be added to the bag. Detach a CA, CL, and 2DD to make SURE nothing is at Christmas.

SE Pac
Calm.

South Pacific
Calm.

Philippines
Subic Bay falls and we move on to Iba to finish these cutoff units.

Eastern DEI
No Action

Central DEI
No Action

Java
Batavia is struck by a good number of bombers and we sink an ARD.

Cocos get the attention of BBs Nagato and Mutsu. They BLAST the island and head for Oosthaven.

CARDIV2 will arrive at Oosthaven tomorrow and refuel.

Malaya
Two days until we crossover to Singapore. Have 100 bombers hit the AF and Port this day. BC Repulse and DD Isis are hit. Add 54 more bombers and shift roughly 100 bombers over to land attack.

Burma
Calm

China
No major action but there is a lot of movement and bomber attacks. We'll have a 3rd ID hit Yenan tomorrow so I order 100 bombers to ground attack there.

SS Operations
I-5 SINKS PC Daphne off San Fran.

Another day, another...

Post by John 3rd »

Happy New Year 1942!

Not much to report.

CARDIV1 sank AP Mataroa about 5-6 hexes from Christmas.

Christmas has only two units in it. Sinking that CD unit is a HUGE plus prior to 2nd ID landing!

Singapore
Nearly 150 bombers attack Fortress Singapore as the troops prepare to cross tomorrow. I checked 25th Army HQ, Southern Command and leaders for my 3 Inf Div. All bombers on Ground Attack. Think there is a REAL shot at taking the base on the Shock Attack so we'll have to see...

Yenan
Shock Attack as a 3rd ID arrives and just BARELY miss a 1-1 (340-369). DRAT. We'll wait a few days and try again.

The USS Seal sinks TWO AK near Hokkaido on the turn. WOW!
USS Thresher and Dutch XVIII get pummeled by 7-11 DC during the turn.

The capture of Singapore comes in at 2-1: Japanese Cas 1,245 Allied Cas 21,790 along with 9 planes on the ground.

CONFIRMED SCUTTLINGS: CL's Danae and Lamotte-Picquet, 4 YMS, 2 HDML, and 12 ML.

The question sits squarely on WHERE is Repulse and Prince of Wales? Both were hit on New Year's Eve. Just in case they were able to move away, I place a ring of Betty--Nell around the area and increase search. IF they survived then I shall have them. My bet is that they are sunk.

Combat Report
January 2, 1942

Already detailed Singapore's fall. Let us move to some major events elsewhere.

North Pacific
Calm

Central Pacific
Midway
Whomever controls the Americans has a big pair of brass shiny ones! Seven hexes due east of Midway the USS Enterprise turns into the wind and launches a series of strikes throughout the day. A Port Attack of 8 F4F and 12 SBD in the morning hits a CL, CM, 3 AK. A regular attack by 14 SBD hit DD Asagani with a bomb. The Afternoon has 8 F4F and 14 SBD strike shipping and place another bomb on Asagani as well as DD Ushio. No one is in danger of sinking but if the Commander elects to stick around then life will be highly interesting. Need to see what my opponents are made of here. The SMART thing to do is move away and be happy with a free shot at some shipping. The BOLD choice would be to stay and endanger his TF. I fly in 27 Zero and 27 Betty. Let us see what they chose to do...

Line Islands
Christmas Isle IF is 3 days away from target.

CARDIV1
CVL Ryujo is a day from Jaliut for replenishment. Split off CV Akagi to move over to Palmyra and link-up with the two CVEs. Need to refuel and rendezvous with an AKE that should arrive in 2 days.

SE Pacific
Nada

South Pacific
Nada

Philippines
Troops moving around a BUNCH!

Eastern DEI
Calm

Central DEI
Balikpapan
Preparing to move around the tip of Borneo and grab that base so I can cover and sweep Soerabaja.

Malaya
Already detailed. All three ID begin prepping for Perth.

Cocos Isle
FALLS to the invasion! No reinforcements present. Immediately begin loading 4th ID to aid in the capture of Java.

CARDIV2
Moves out from Oosthaven and prepares to go hunting! Will head out and move beyond Cocos and then sweep towards Australia. Nisshin will join the operation while in progress.

SS Operations
I-162 SINKS AKL Nanchang off Diamond Harbor
I-9 SINKS AK Iron Knight and damages AK Iron Chieftain NE of the Line Islands.

What's the victory point situation now? Is it too soon to start thinking about auto-victory?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?
