THAT is my point. When I start a new AE Campaign my goal is an average of 5 ships a day for the first month: 150 ships. I still have 4 days to go and hope to be around 325....

Here is the January 3rd Intelligence Screen of sinkings for warships. While not perfect it does serve as a reference:

"Little Ball of Fur"
No turn today. I think the boys are in top strategy mode and DEEP in consultation. Noticed a lot of activity on their AAR today so that is a good thing.
Am REALLY curious as to whether or not Enterprise stays in strike range tomorrow. Either decision by Jim will tell me a lot about him as a player.
NOTES:
Should invade Christmas on January 6th or 7th.
Ground Reinforcements:
Midway: 11th Ind Regiment, two Base Forces, and a CD unit. Should be there within 4-5 days (Pending Enterprise's actions)
Palmyra: 12th Ind Regiment and two Base Force
Christmas: 13th Ind Reigment, a large Base Force and an Air Flotilla. Really WANT Torps!
Line Islands: 11th Air Fleet is on the way as well as 4-6 Construction units. Not sure where I shall place them but they are coming.
Naval Reinforcements:
The early fall of Singapore is HUGE. It frees up a portion of the Kaigun for redeployment:
a. Have pulled an additional 4 CA, 3 CL, and 18 DDs to come east. They will rendezvous at Babeldoap tomorrow, refuel and head for Kwajalein.
b. CARDIV5 will be back in action in two days! Will have Shokaku--Zuikaku, a BC, a new CL, and 8 DD moving to the Marshalls as well.
c. CURRENT STRENGTH: 2 CV, 2 CVL, 2 BB, 2 BC, 5 CA, 4 CL, and about 22 DDs. Roughly 18 SS deployed around Line Islands and Midway. Another 8-10 are patrolling in the South Pacific.
Air Reinforcements:
1. Have already moved 81 Zero, 100+ Betty--Nell, and 36 Mavis--Emily to the Marshalls area. Just need the Base Forces to arrive in the Line Islands to stock and expand the AFs.
2. While the AFs are smaller I have 54 Val and 54 Kate at Truk ready to move east when the bases are available.
The funny thing is this all a RUSE to confuse the enemy! As soon as follow-on troops land at Midway and the Line Islands I shall have 3 SNLF Assault Brigades, Imperial Guards Brigade, and 2nd Infantry Division to move south and cut the life-line to dear, sweet Aussieland. Figure this movement south to begin about January 20th.
If the Allies choose to make a fight at Midway or the Line Islands, which I REALLY DOUBT, I will use the bases to spot their TF, then slow their approach and keep my CVs behind the islands where I can safely hit their assault shipping. I've sunk SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many APs I cannot believe this might happen but I must prepare for any possibility. This is why I am moving so many Emily--Mavis into the area. Air Search---Air Search--Air Search! The Fleet will concentrate at Kwajalein and get some rest after Christmas Falls. While waiting for the above-mentioned warships to arrive, we'll use this base as a good mid-point for reaction ability if needed. I've got my AOs fueled and will have several disbanded at Wake as well as a few at that base SW of Christmas. Always good to have full AOs available if needed!
These are my thoughts since I have NOTHING to do tonight. Bed Time for John!

RE: "Little Ball of Fur"
Still no turn from the guys. Larry said he sent it over to Jim fairly late last night so I expect while at work.
My brain kept chewing on things (I am SURE that YOU suffer from this too DEAR READERS) after I headed for bed.
Thoughts:
1. The appearance of Enterprise FROM THE NORTH really forces me to re-appraise the US CV situation. My thinking had been that Enterprise and Lexington were in the South Pacific. Now I have to assume that only Lexington is down there. This bodes well for the southern operations; however, it also means there are at least three CVs operating out of Pearl Harbor. That is a dangerous number considering I have only two heavy and two light carriers.
2. With this in mind, I shall Cover the Christmas Landing and high-tail it back to Kwajalein for R&R and to await the arrival of Sho--Zui. These heavy additions will certainly redress the balance if they sail out from Pearl.
3. Regardless we plan to move South around January 20th. Will detail out the exact planning and thinking for that set of moves within a couple of days.
Over in the West, the Fall of Singers and capture of Cocos begins immediate movement within the planning phases of things.
1. All the forces that took Singapore will be used to take the west coast of Australia. Perth is the prime target.
2. CARDIV2 will sweep past Cocos and then advance towards Australia hunting merchants and transports. Somewhere out there just might be some serious Aussie troops that would be far better sunk at sea then fought on the ground!
3. As always Operation Whirlwind will depend upon the speed and decisiveness of the Perth Operation.

Hi John, are you playing without hexes or is this just for the sake of taking the screenshots? The map without hexes is really an eye-opener.
RE: "Little Ball of Fur"
Hey Sir. I love playing without the hexes. The map looks so much better that way.

RE: "Little Ball of Fur"
John, I can say that this plan of yours would have had me off balance as well. I would have grave concerns over the Palmyra thing, even above Midway . I'm not sure what sort of reaction I would use, but it would get a rise out of me. I think Palmyra is the key link in the US to Australia gig. There is no where else for the US to anchor the lines of approach for air search. While I am unable to comment at the present time about my LOC to Australia, Cape Town does not cut it. I don't turn off heavy industry there and they are a little fuel guzzler. I think as long as you own the gates to SoPac AO, it will be really hard for them to counter any moves you make south of the equator.
RE: "Little Ball of Fur"
This is my hope. I truly hope to PANIC the American Player and then swing for the fences in the south.
Operation Whirlwind may just send the Allied Player over the edge into a deep chasm of NO RETURN!
Imagine sinister laughter...

RE: "Little Ball of Fur"
Well...we figured out what happened. I was an IDIOT! I updated RA to 6.5 with getting rid of Jacks for Japan and then sent my opponents the new Scenario Files. While those went out I ran the 1-3-42 turn, saved it to my 013 slot (we use 011 to email back-and-forth), sent the 001, and got called into work BEFORE I sent the 011. OOPS! All my fault.
Problem fixed and they have the turn.
Feel fairly stupid at the moment and a little sheepish...

Combat Report
January 3, 1942
After a short hiatus where I was the one confused as to where the turn was located, we are now back at it. The game immediately shifts into more of the same!
North Pacific
Now that Enterprise has left these waters, it is safe to release the three supply convoys to go on to Attu, Amchitka, and Umnak. Will also form-up the shipping at Paramushiro Jima to bring the remains of the Infantry groups used to take those islands as well as spread 8 small Engineering and Construction units for base expansion.
Total Offensive Force up here is now 3 old CLs and 6 DDs.
Central Pacific
Midway
CV Enterprise skedaddles back to Pearl Harbor. Too bad but a wise move by Jim. Tells me a bit about his play style.
None of the ships hit yesterday are in danger of sinking so we'll keep them in Port for a few days. A Reinforcement Convoy will arrive in 2-3 days.
Johnston
The SNLF Assault Brigade will hit this base in 2-3 days. PBY's, from there, hit an AK with a bomb.
Line Islands
CARDIV1
My CVE TF will combine with my remaining CV/CVL (Kaga--Zuiho) to help Cover the upcoming Landings. CVL Ryujo refuels/replenishes tomorrow at Jaliut. CV Akagi is well on her way to Jaliut now as well. We're doing a bit of a CV shuffle until Johnston and Christmas are taken.
Kaga sinks an AK approaching Christmas with a Raid of 15 Zero and 13 Val who hit this poor ship with 8 bombs.
SS
I begin a planned redeployment of SS between Midway and Hawaii as well as between Palmyra and Hawaii. AS are headed to both bases as well as a pair of small TK to provide fuel for the subs.
SE Pacific
Nothing
South Pacific
Manus is about to go to a Lvl 2 AF. Will move Zeros and a Val Chutai here to make our presence known.
Philippines
Lots of troops movement and not much else to say. MSW will arrive at Bataan tomorrow and clear out those pesky mines.
Eastern DEI
Nothing
Central DEI
Begin loading up 65th Brigade and two small Base Forces to take Samarinda just around the corner. After grabbing this they will move and begin the reduction of the Celebes.
Cocos
CARDIV2 sweeps past Cocos heading out to cut the India--Australian lifeline. Expect to find shipping in 1-2 more turns. If not we'll spread the TF out a bit to increase air search coverage and move slowly towards Perth.
Malaya
Singapore
The base is not very damaged. NICE! A force of 5 DMS move in to sweep out the mines.
A hoste of Allied shipping temporarily survive the fall of the base. Not they must RUN FOR THEIR LIVES! Bombers sinks a PG and 2 AG. There appears to be about 5-9 more ships running towards Java. Guarantee that Prince of Wales and/or Repulse is present there. My intelligence screen did note the sinking of POW but don't believe it until all these ships are destroyed.
Order two two BB TF to move out from Oosthaven to aid the LBA is sinking these vessels. Let us add to an already large bag count!
Sumatra
Take Lahat and drive the enemy back towards Benkoelen.
Burma
Pegu
There are now 5 Tank Regiments about to be based here. Time to grab Rangoon. Will move out from here in 2 days and smash the Allies present there.
China
Central Plains
I've surrounded the twin cities in the Loyang Area. There are ten units in Loyang and an equal amount at the city right next door.
Airpower is now smacking Chinese troops throughout the area. I've got 130+ Bombers at Jehol who add to the attacking strength of the Japanese Chinese air units. Certainly helps!
SS Operations
I-5 SINKS PC Ariadne near San Fran.
Reinforcements
DD Makigumo arrives at Osaka
Will form up CV's Shokaku--Zuikaku, a BC, 2 CL, and 8 DD in two days and head for Kwajalein. Plan to spend one day with each CV re-sizing one air group each.

SCRATCH Force Z!
January 4, 1942
In a crazy 17 Round fight, 9 DDs take on crippled giants of Prince of Wales, Repulse, DD Isis, a TK, PG, MMS, and an AM. The Giants are smothered by 4.7"/5" shells and succumb!
Prince of Wales 83 Shell Hits and 1 TT
Repulse 39 Shell Hits and 1 TT
There are no other surviving ships.
Cost is DD Yugiri taking a single 14" shell that sinks her. This is the FIRST Japanese DD to be sunk. NICE!
Adding to the carnage BBs Mutsu and Nagato sink a PB, PG, and AG while airpower sinks DD Vendetta and an AM.

Definite evidence that POW was not sunk earlier as the intelligence screen reported!
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?
