I also prefer the real maps, with TacOps my favorite were the topo maps, specially Friedrik's three Fulda maps.
Panta, I still have those maps, what a great game TACOPS was.

One thing about Topo maps you can't remove the grid lines on them. Looking at what WiH14m did I guess you can still make maps from Topo but use another program (Hexdraw) to make them look nice.

Yes, a few days ago I launched it again, with Friedrik's 303 map...oh the good old times! [:'(]
Yes you can remove the grid lines, with Photoshop, I have done it (Photoshop is my adjustable spanner [8D]), it takes just a few minutes.

That I didn't know that you can remove the grid lines with Photoshop. Can you explain how to do that?

Here is what the map can look like in game (slightly de-saturated, so the foreground icons stand-out better). It sadly lacks Kerzell and Poppenhausen area in south of the map, so it doesn't fully cover the game's Fulda map.

The discrepancy with the underlying hex-based engine starts when you start plotting movements. Otherwise it looks interesting (and a bit confusing).

William

I forgot to mention, I have the lower part of the Fulda map that shows Kerzell and Poppenhausen on it. Will post a link so that you can download it. Its one of the 31 scan maps I have.

Does anybody have the Bad Neustadt sector map?

I'd like to see what 'A Time To Dance' would look like on a topo map!

Clone Tool? Wouldn't that take a long time to do? Not sure how you can use the clone tool to take the grid lines off the topo map.

Oh yes, I took me not more than 20 minutes to take them off a map similar to your Fulda. Just do it precisely, enlarge the image and use Shift+click to clone long portions of the lines. You can correct any mistake later.

Well, maybe 40 minutes, depending on the size and detail of the map.

You need to be precise, I tried on your Fulda karte and a brush size of 4 pixels at around 50% or more hardness works well. In about five minutes I did a corner of the map, so with a little practice you should finish in 30-45 min aprox.

Here is a screenshot of one of the maps that Panta and I were talking about. Shows Fulda and Hunsfeld.

That set of three adjacent maps are really beautiful, I would like to make them playable with FPC, but as it will be time consuming, I guess that it will be better do wait until the new elevations are available. It was an old dream for all TacOps players, to be able to play with more than the three levels available.

This is a list of the maps I have, they are 1:50,000 topo maps used during Reforger 85. Instead of me posting them all just ask which one you would like to see or download, let me know here. Don't send email I may not see it.

You have a full set of maps! For the time being I still have all three Friedrik's Fulda maps to start with, but I will keep that into account, tx.

I do like the 3D look of the hills with these maps. It makes reading the terrain a lot easier than just decoding contour lines.

I like what you guys are doing and think you're heading in the right direction. I wish I still had all of my maps, I was there for Reforger 83, 84, 85, and 88. Considering the scale of the game though, don't you guys think the 1:25000 would work better? I think the 1:50000 would get a bit crowded unless it was enlarged.

Has anyone considered contacting the army for the digital map set needed? Back in the 90's we had all the maps we needed stored on disks. I would think that in 20 years that those maps might still be available on disk somewhere. Maybe the army historical center.

I don't know if anyone is still working on these, but I would really love to have topo maps for this game.

Don't know what period you are working on, so only accurate for topography not road nets, urban development, agricultural uses, etc.:
