This is intentional simplification done to make it easier to rebase empty air groups. Yes, it looks unrealistic, but it can be treated as "compensation" for the absence of reactive rebase in case of air field bombardment. The same kind of abstraction is when you rebasing damaged planes. We decided not to create sub-units as it would add another complexity layer.

It may change in the future as we add more features.

Looks like ctrl-2 mode. If yes, green bars represent ready planes. Red - damaged, blue - reserve.

I am being dense here, Helpless. I don't understand your response to the original poster's question. What is the answer to their question if they can transfer pilots from one airbase to another, and have those pilots fly planes from this new airbase group. Is that the question? I don't see how your response answered that.

Sorry for my newbie-ness, and thank you.

No, pilots stay with the group, unless disbanded.

So, since there is only one plane at this airfield in the screenshot above, and there are 40 pilots, what can you do to make these pilots useful, if you cannot move them?

I guess I'm not understanding the process.

Move what? I know you are trying to help, and I really appreciate it, but you are being very vague. And I am being dense.

What can you move? The pilots? I thought you just said you can't move pilots.

Can you add more planes to this air group at this airbase that currently has just one plane?

Thank you for your patience with me. [&:]

The pilots always stay with the unit, so either you need to find a way to get more aircraft into the unit, or you can disband the unit so the pilots will become available for other units to use. So if moving the unit will make it more likely it will get replacements (I don't know if this is the case), you could do this and the pilots will go with the unit.
All understanding comes after the fact.

no merge for air units.

"I see,so no transferring of pilots to other groups."

Not directly. Disband the group puts pilots into pool.

"And no option to get planes for groups with no planes."

Set the air group's replacements to priority.

You have no bf109g in unit and 1 in pool, aircraft change on manual .

Click manual "arrows" and see what aircraft you have sitting in the pool and change mounts.
