********Bar, Royal Hawaiian, Oahu, (Downstairs from FOB Penthouse)*******

FAM:Maker's, rocks please.

Barkeep: <turns to two other customers who seem oddly foreign and are curiously dressed in identical Hawaiian shirts with palm trees and native types riding outrigger canoes>
And you boys, what will you have?

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: Prease to have-ah watah.

FAM: Water? Let me get you something? You aren't going to believe how cheap the drinks are here...but don't tell the management. Barkeep, bourbon for my friends. You boys like bourbon, don't you?

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: Hai! That-ah word be dericious.

FAM: Splendid! Where are you boys from?

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #2: AN-juh-res!

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: <elbows other fellow> ROS ANGERES!

FAM: "Ros Angeres"...oh, you mean LA. Lived there for 3 years in a crappy apartment with
paper walls. One neighbor was a screamer. She would moan louder and louder for 15 minutes every Saturday, Wednesday and Friday night.
Some sort of exercise, I imagine. The other neighbor was from Alberta and insisted on warming up her
car in morning at 3000 revs for 20 minutes even when it was 70 degrees out.

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: Hai! paper warhs.

FAM: <suddenly grabs temples in anguish>....Uhhh..I've just felt a great disturbance in the force.

That wasn't nice. Singers gone and no Honky Fidd, who's going to want a draft to the Far Flung now?

It was quite presumptuous. I don't remember even inviting the Little Yellow Baahstards, did you?

What about Achmeds's hooka bar in Aden? Can you get a Guinness there?

Still, I do confess a certain oriental efficiency here. Singapore falls on Dec 22 and Hong Kong even before that.

3 full divisions at Singers with 2 tank regiments, 2 Army HQ and a bunch of heavy arty.

**********Christmas Eve, 1941***********

Java: The Royal Dutch Air Force does pretty much everything right..attack packets likely to encounter enemy CAP have escorts..recon is good...nice new paint jobs on the Uglofortreses....impressive..except for the detail of actually hitting anything.

The only birds we have in the area that do real damage are the FAA torpedo bombers..and most of them were blown up already. JJ jave a foothold on Java-jima and they brought lots of those short guys with the funny leggings.

39th and 59th Aus Inf Bn are landing at Rabaul. Now we have to disrupt the WJD's ashore with naval bombardment and air bombardment, attack...kill them...then get everyone out before the KB shows up. [:)]

A good lesson on why the real Japanese made their conquests under air cover, whether from land or KB.

Yes. You could say this is an unintended consequence of the attack on Manila on Dec 7. Once we identified all 6 CV's operating in the DEI, the USN and RAN were granted a window of operational freedom.

Two full, crack SNLF units would be big prize but we can't stay too long or we will be the prize.

This also opens and opportunity to reinforce PM and Noumea. Still thinking about that. Both spots can be traps for the Allies.

OK, I have a question (strictly hypothetical, of course):

..Suppose an Allied carrier is on a secret mission

..Let us further suppose that one of the TBD's spies a periscope

..Do the Wee Jap Dobbers get an intel message about being spotted by the Allied TBD?

I believe in the OPS report it may say if the plane was spotted by an enemy TF.
