Welcome to the new war raging across hundreds of light years at once, with mechanized Titans as the main fighting force.

In MW (2&3) if I use PPCs, I sure do fire them all at once. It takes my mech to shutdown, but it is more than possible it will rip the enemy in pieces with one shutdown shot (in MW3). Last time I finished MW3 I made an Annihilator with 4 C\Er PPCs and the lance mates had Annihilators and Thors and other biggies with 3 C\Er PPCs. Worked like a charm (well, not in the thermal plant, but in any other map).

wff I have never found any use for small lasers. The only use I can come up with them is to have something like 16 of them and shoot them all at once to the legs...I prefer medium lasers if I need lasers at all. But SRMs are great and so are machine guns.

I think we've pretty well established that the Mechwarrior games, while fun, are not especially realistic or even terribly accurate in the BT universe. That shutdown shot might work fine in the game, but how well do you think it would fare in reality? If you happened to miss, or only partial hit your enemy, he could then pound you mercilessly while you're shutdown. Or if he had some friends with him, you'd be helplessly sitting in a shutdown state while they had their way with you.

taren: well isn't that why you bring your own friends?

but yes it is true you would be left helpless and in a situation where every second counts getting shut down takes way way too long

Yes, you would bring your own friends, hopefully, but you might not always have them. If you were caught on your own with a mech that shuts down every time it fires a full volley, how much of a chance do you have?
I'm just trying to point out some realism, not saying the game isn't fun.

well im not sure i speak for all mech pilots (hell even titan pilots) but i wouldn't be caught with an alpha fire that shuts me down everytime i use it (besides i prefer cannons  so they weigh more who cares? its for more damage and less heat than a ppc (meaning gauss))

I pretty much totally agree.

Machine guns rock. They take 1 crit, weight .5 (or .3 if clan) and deliver as much damage as AC2 only faster. True the range is short, but if you like close combat, MCs are the thing. Put 4 of'em and try it out.

Shutdown shot in MW3 is not bad. Shutdown goes off in half second. I pump my mech full with c\ double heatsinks, so when I shutdow shoot, computer tells I'm shutting down, but before the shutdown actually happens, the heat is almost 0 so it restart again...right in time to fire again. With the right combo of PPCs and sinks, you start up at the exact moment your PPCs are reloaded. Very deadly combo....the enemy usually can't even fire at me, unless it has missiles.
And if you are in the middle of a crowd, use chain fire. Fire, wait .5 secs, fire...heat doesn't even hit yellow. Note that this is in MW3, since I can't play any newer than that (ancient puter) and I hate PPCs in MW2 (the coloured blob is just annoying...looks like it's ripped from Duke Nukem).

That shutdown shot might work fine in MW3, but I still wouldn't suggest it as a tactic in a "real life" situation. The chain fire tactic is, in my opinion, much better, since it would seriously cut down on the wear and tear for your mech. (Not that the game deals with such things, but we were talking about the effectiveness of the tactic in reality, such as it is...)

"real life" :D

Well, in the game, shutdown shot is more effective than chain...think about the fact that one shotdown WILL disable at least one part of the mech per shot. If it's a leg, you're out. If it's head, you're out. If it's C torso, you're out.

I aim in the lower part of C torso, where the legs are connected to the rest of the body, so I have 3 parts aimed (LL, RL, CT) which will all disable the mech. Hitting the target isn't hard with targeting computer and the nice zoom thing.
So in chain, you'd be throwing shots at me, damaging yes, heating me yes, but I would shoot once and you would prolly be out. And as my firing rate is the PPCs reload time, it's fast death.

And this is actually fun for you... heh.
Of course, when playing against a human as good as you or better, it might not be so much fun, huh?

Anyways, I've dropped the MW series a long time ago (I did play MW4 though), so I'm not going to continue discussing this.

I think I'm going to go with Iceman this time. I've said what I had to say about it.

:) Yeah I know, comparing MW/MC and ToS isn't the brightest idea... but it raised a little talk here so..

Just one last question. Are there any newer patches for MW2:Mercs than the d3d patch? I haven't found, but I think the game would have needed one...
also other files, mods, trainers anything for MW2:mercs please.

Yeah, it might, but I'm feeling lazy and don't need that patch that badly. Just asked if someone would happen to know... besides, I already follow enough different forums already.
