While they were hit hard and you destroyed the fragment of the raiding unit, the total loss in combat squads was about 170.

That's about half of a divisions worth and some of that loss was from the fragment destroyed so the Division is likely still at half strength likely with very high disruption.

A shock attack could still be a very bloody way to go so personally I would limit it to a DA and then if successful again follow that with an SA.

I didnt mean what to do regarding the unit if possible. BTW, he escaped since I already made him retreat out of the hex and for some reason the bombers set to bomb him did not fly 2 turns in a row 1 hex away. *sigh* My take was he had about 1 regiment left. If he does escape I expect that unit to need at least 2 months to get back into shape.

The troops I used are the bulk of the Melbourne defense so I cant let them stray too far.

What NJP is attempting to do in Australia strategically escapes me...

He left Newcastle undefended and a Coy unit took it back. Now, maybe he doesnt want troops out in the open due to bombers, I dont know... However, Newcastle has 440 resources generated per turn and I was almost out of resources in Sydney. My piles there went from 9K to 66K with more left over at Newcastle. Thanks NJP!!!

He has a naval guard unit at Canberra that is getting pounded and it appears that a regiment is moving west away from that position.

My take is he has 600-1000 AV to the west, maybe 1500AV tops. There do not appear to be many troops in or around Sydney.

I think his plan is based on surprise and gaining a key city (either Melbourne or Sydney) on the quick somehow. It might be a good tactic against a newer opponent but I am not leaving either of these empty. in fact, Sydney has 1600 AV of troops and Melborne has 300+ AV with another 600+ AV that just mauled the 21st division right outside. I will likely move them back into the city as the advantage lies with me right now as troops are training up. For some reason the Australian army can train to 65 experience.

China

NJP has had troops in Chungking for over a week now. Not sure what he is waiting for as he has not even begun bombardment. Maybe the blocking positions are working to delay supply to his troops. The problem for him is that within that last week over 1000 AV have been added to the city by group reinforcements. In fact, I am moving all of the support I can out of the city to avoid overstacking.

There is no reason for him not to take the city in this game but it is going to cost him.

Almost three divisions worth of combat squads rendered ineffective with almost a half of a divisions worth lost.

Will take a while to recover from that.

India - Not sure what he is going to try to do here. I already have 4000+AV on the continent and 1800AV in reserve with the bonus troops and regular reinforcements. He cannot take Calcutta or Bombay unless I allow it. He could take Madras and spread into the southeastern part of India but it would cost him a lot of supplies and be at the end of his supply lines.

Chungking

That first attack appeared to sting pretty good. NJP has moved troops out of Chungking and probably intends to surround the city and/or whatever else he has planned. Still have plenty of blocking troops in position but he is getting supply directly from Chengtu and some of the previous Chinese cities to the north. Not sure how much this will help him before he clears out some of the other troops.

I keep receiving reinforcements and am stronger than before the attack. Having turned reinforcements off in Chungking the supply is rising as well. Most units have squads that need to recover before adding more.

Australia

Working on training my armies up while NJP chases me around the continent. If he gets Adelaide he gains 650VP so it is definitely a good target for him. Beyond that I dont see how he is going to get me out of Melbourne and/or Sydney. Both cities have 1000 AV + in heavy urban terrain.

Supply wise I have just as much as before, almost 400K at Sydney and 170K at Melbourne. I think I have about 22K of fuel left at Sydney so supplies might stop rising or start dropping in about 3 weeks but even at a loss of 2K supplies per day I have months and months worth.

Re: India - several Allied players have successfully trapped large numbers of IJA troops in Burma by going via Ledo - Myitkyina and rampaging down the road in their superior tanks. Marching units took care of the cut-off IJA troops as they moved south. This kind of attack also needs large numbers of 2E bombers to slow down and wear down the IJA as they try to withdraw, and of course there is a continuous fighter contest over the troops.

The war isnt over yet. He still has a good chance at AV if things go his way.

Although, that is not my plan ;]

Absolutely no plans yet. They are training and gaining experience and morale.

NJP is making motions like he is going to assault india but that would be stupid at this point IMO. I can defend anywhere I want. I have over 4000AV including the 18th division and the 6th Canadian. That means I have 1000AV+ including a tank regiment with 70+ exp.

In addition, I have the 2 Australian divisions (1 extra due to the emergency reinforcements) as backup and he has no idea where any of the reinforcements are but would have to take into account my ability to deploy them.

His carriers have been completely hidden for a while now. I am not making any major moves yet. Have just begun planning the summer offensive. Prep will begin soon for units.

I know he has the 4th and 21st division in Australia. He likely has 2-4 more as well. So that accounts for 1/3rd to 1/2 of his major assault forces. Landings and occupations have happened at the 2 southern cities on Luzon but he still has to take out manila as well as Singapore.

I am considering an canoerebelesque assault on Pegu and/or Brisbane early in the game. If I can get enough troops and supplies on shore in a surprise move then I may be able to cut off and kill a large portion of his troops.

What is happening now is I am moving search and support into the pacific to start building a perimeter to move forward from.

Having him on the east and south sides of Australia creates an interesting area north of New Zealand and of course Noumea, Pago Pago and the other islands he has taken will soon be within striking range.

NJP isnt done with his assault yet and I expect a surprise attack somewhere within the next 3 months. The strategic picture has not firmed up enough for me to confirm what major vector I plan to move on.

It appears that the attack along the northern route has failed and NJP has troops moving back toward Brisbane. Whether this is to skip over Sydney or to attack a city next to it or even move to the other side and add to the troops near Adelaide.

I think he is backing off after deciding that he does not have the troops to contest southeastern Australia in the Summer and Fall of 1942.

Tasmanian Devils can be unpredictable. Throwing a few wrenches to see if I can screw up at least part of his plan. This could fail miserably or turn out to be a great thing. The truth is likely somewhere in between.

The setup is that 2 merchant ships have been loaded with armor units destined for Tasmania. He has 2 units of about 120AV at Hobart and a naval guard unit on the island. Dont know what else but maybe I can catch an airforce or base force unit without cover. Ideally I will capture some or all of his supply requiring him to fight me.

On the flip side he may just sink what I have planned....

Are there any warships covering those two merchies? He is bound to have subs in Bass Strait and mines in Launceston port. Maybe even some CD guns (the DP ones that some of the BFs have).

But where do you plan to land them? From looking at that map you have only one option because merchants unload too slow.
