Give him some Middle Earth back. Drop FJ regiments into merry old England. It's probably deserted and you drop on a port and you have England! Get all your transports close to England and then drop some FJ onto nearby ports, and you could really screw his day up.

I don't see how his logistics can handle having that many separate invasions. Trying to get supplies to all those far flung beaches should be prohibitive. There are new changes coming to the naval again, and hopefully it will be more effective in interdicting troops and supplies. It was too hard at first, now it's a little too soft on shipping, but it's getting there. My first game I invaded two places at once, and both stalled out because of all the troop ships I'd lost on previous invasions. That is way more realistic than this invade everywhere strategy.

Not counting the Pacific, how many invasions did the allies get off in ETO? 5 or 6, but that was over the span of a year and more. I don't think the ETO had the assets to accomplish 7 invasions in less than a year.

Of the size and scope they launched historically, but if they had eschewed large, multi-division led efforts for several Dieppe or smaller sized raids around Europe, did they really lack the shipping in '44?

Is distance between port depots a factor in how the game carries freight? Does the game see it 'cost' the same shipping value to move freight from London to Calais that it does to move freight from Tunis to Genoa?

There was no retention of amphibious points. I invaded with regiments at Brest.

I finally perused the forum for my ongoing game with PeltonX.

Here's why I invaded the way I did. First, slogging up Italy is guaranteed to rack up Allied casualties. Seeing units surrender, as happened with one of my invasions, netted fewer POW than KIA had I tried to hammer up Italy.

The landing in Brest was done to try to lure the Luftwaffe into a war of attrition, and, secure a major port on the mainland of France. I think it worked. My strategic air has been hammering aircraft factories from day one and pretty much ignoring anything else. My intent was to reduce the Luftwaffe below where it was in June 1944 so as to invade Denmark, then push down into Northern Germany.

We'll see how the points favor us in a few months. At present, PeltonX has about +900. But, if I start taking German cities six months ahead of schedule, I'm guessing his point advantage will start tilting back in my favor.

Lastly, as I mentioned above, I invaded Brest with 3 regimental combat teams. There was no bug that carried over invasion prep points. I knew the risks and took them.

Guys, we need to be very careful in deciding whether things done in game are silly because the WA didn't do them. The only test that matters is could the Allies have done them?

DDay wasn't one invasion. It was 5 interlocking mutually supporting ones. Could the invasions have been spread out over 100, 300 miles or more (from Cherbourg to Calais)? Yes they could (albeit with more need for flank guards etc). They would be bottled up and defeated in detail, but it was physically possible. As for this game? I think Pelton doth protest too much. What's the WA casualty VP negative currently?. He is showing why the strategy isn't going to work, but appears to be complaining as a principle. Also he appears to have neglected some basic defensive measures. How on earth did the invasion near Trieste get ashore or stay supplied? The WA should never have been allowed to get NI the lenghtthe Adriatic. As for the Dutch and Danish ones, are they going anywhere? And Southern France? It takes a major army to conquer France from the South - too much space... Is there a spare one I haven't seen?

If there was any danger of Pelton losing I would have some sympathy... I do not think there is. Pelton, play more as WA :)

Just my 2p...

I know at one time allied shipping was taking huge hits, but from what I've seen since .21, troop transports rarely get hit, even in heavily contested areas. The reason is that if you move 4 hexes at a time, you drop the odds of being attacked to such a low number it's almost impossible to get hit. Allies aren't taking nearly enough shipping losses moving thru high interdiction. Take away the move 4 hexes at a time, which I'm not sure how you could do that, and the allies would lose a lot more ships. I believe that the allies got it too easy when naval interdiction was changed, but there's a happy medium somewhere.

Once the allies start losing more troop ships, they will have to stop all that invading. I'm not sure how he's keeping them supplied, and ferrying troops across should be hard. With all the invasions he's done, his troop ships should be shot out imo.

Another suggestion is that once you pull a TF from a successful invasion, it can't be used to prep again for so many turns. 8 Turns, which is two months to refit the fleets to prep for a new invasion?

Yes Germany could land troops in England using that exploit.

Not a sensible discussion given the lack of Home forces in game. It may come as a surpise but the forces not available for overseas deployment aren't modelled...

Even if you could fight through the large number of fighters to make a paradrop on England....how hard would it be for the allies to isolate the landing for supplies by sea..and to bring a unit or two back to England to contain and deal with the 'invasion'? I would probably deal with it with multi-role brigades..odds are there will be a few sitting around in England. If not, it is trivial to get them back, although he may do some factory damage (unless you have to be in supply to do so).

Not knowing what had landed at Breast is what made it suspect, but you could have had plenty of time to get one off with just one inf. brigade/regiment. Some of the invasion hexes have two units in them on the turn you landed, and you cannot see what they are. It only takes about 4 turns to prep a TF to 50 with one inf. brigade. I meant no offense.

meklore - actually one brigade in a high level port is three turns (21 prep per turn) before an invasion. It is actually easy to "spam" low level invasions like this in the system but they are not very effective against anywhere that the Axis is defending the coast line. Of course if the Axis is not defending the coast line then they can be VERY effective.

The Gustov line holds vs 2 attacks, but the Northern Italy area is losing ground, not sure why the combat losses are so low in this area every turn?

This is becoming a game of attrition, hes using his air force every turn and attacking on all fronts.

Be interesting to see if he can cause a manpower crunch this summer.

No screen of the invasion combat?
I was curious how a regiment would fare invading contested. Do I see that he bounced your regiment out of a port with his landing?
