RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
I have played this series, including a beta version of scenario 8. All are excellent. I look forward to playing scenario 6.
RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
I am not certain what to do for the evacuation… Some items I get… I redirected the two surface action groups to Keflavik early in the game... As it seemed tactically the wisest thing to do…
RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
Magi - I do need to add a line in the brief about the LHD which is meant to be transiting, nothing more until later. TG 84.1 is on an ASW sweep. However you have too many tasks and threats for the resources given to you, so you will have some tough calls to make. Later orders may vindicate your actions
Airbn Rifles - I know what you mean. I'm supposed to be retired but can hardly find the time for myself. Sheesh
Fisher55 - Thanks for the kind words Scenario 7 in final test tonight.

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
Does the game allow you to load units into transports and disembark them... If so... How do you do that..... And unfortunately I did not save my orders about the evacuation…… So I'm not certain of what to do in detail of your dad load everybody up and get the hell out of there and head south to the Canadian and American bases .... A read me file would be good.... I should've saved it somewhere… I think it had a lot of good anachronisms in it…
I'm going to load the new one up now and check it out… I will say that this capers one.. for me... is possibly the best scenario I have ever played… It's very rich… it's a Tchaikovsky violin Concerto of scenarios......

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
I just finished this one last night - what an excellent scenario! All sorts of interesting things going on.
The Russians definitely had me off balance at first. I managed to put a pair of Harpoons into the suspect trawler up north, but despite a desperate afterburner run I was just moments too late to deal with the plane-full of fun down south, and some of the eastern Badgers kept launching just as I got into missile range so I lost radars there. The eastern sub landings went off without a hitch (for Russia, that is...), although a coast-guard helicopter did manage to spot the Echo at periscope depth on the way out, and called in a P-3 to sink it for revenge. Spetznaz ruined various comms stations in the west, despite helicopter patrols specifically looking for them in the area, and my ground troops only ever caught one squad of them.
My sub up north managed to sink a Udaloy with a salvo of 4 Harpoons, but then got nailed by what I assume was an SS-N-14. (Edit: nope - MAD hit from a heli, then swarmed.) My desperate BOL shots as the torps closed in managed to sink the Slava right next door to the Kuznetsov, which must have raised a few Russian eyebrows, so some honour was restored.
The main air war went reasonably well for me. (Thank heavens for the tankers. Those saved me more than once.) I managed to fend off the northern Badgers and Backfires, massacre the incoming Yaks, decimate the ASW heli swarm, and even get some good kills by coming up behind Su-33s that were headed back to the carrier, all for the loss of three Eagles. Some Eagles even got up near Jan Mayen, and managed to slaughter the incoming An-26s with gunfire, so none ever reached Iceland. The first appearance of the Foxhounds was a rude surprise, but some of those Eagles coming back got in behind them, and downed the first two. The next two damn near killed my AWACs though. What eventually saved me from the Foxhounds was my pair of AMRAAM-toting Eagles, which came on the scene just as the Russian tankers arrived, and the Foxhounds were lining up to drink. Between them they managed to kill 8 of the tankers in a spastic AMRAAM salvo, before dying in the swarm of Russian fighters. But that was enough to strip the escorts away from the incoming air landing, and another cargo-plane massacre followed. None of them crossed the Icelandic coast. It would have been absolutely impossible to accomplish all those tanker kills with Sparrows.
Some observations:
* Many of the Icelandic transport aircraft don't have the range to reach the airports in North America, and they ran out of fuel and crashed.
* The 'Evacuation flight arrives North America' event started firing continuously, every few seconds, quickly racking up a score of a few thousand points, so I turned it off.
* I was surprised the Yaks weren't up as a CAP for the Kiev. I was able to beat up their ASW and AEW helicopters essentially unmolested as a result. A local CAP for both carrier groups would have been handy in that respect.
* The Su-33s often stop illuminating and turn away when my aircraft turn to flee, wasting many missiles that way. (Nothing you can do about this, I suspect.)
* As mentioned by others above, the Su-33s also make a lot of their approach on afterburner, and they would have been more dangerous if they'd been able to approach at moderate speed and thus get further south.
* It looked like the carrier was using every single one if its Su-33s for those southward pushes, leaving it uncovered for an hour or two until they had readied again.
That was so much fun I'm going to go try another one!

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
Thought most things worked, very enjoyable scenario.
Interesting that I may (or may not) have won despite losing air cover. Effectively I think a Kitchen strike took out both runways and Keflavik stopped operating.
However the LA sank I think Slava and Kusnetsov before being sunk (my one big hope)
I can't say what the score was as the flights to North America seemed to trigger multiple times. This gave me an unrealistic triumph score.
I managed to also sink a Sierra and an Alfa.
I think the only thing I wasn't sure on were the TLAM's. These give you a chance to hit back at bases which I don't think you intended?

Thanks, I need to fix the 'flight to North America' event. Kef has a Runway capable Taxiway - was that used or destroyed.
Good point on the TLAMs, I should put something in the brief about them - they need to be saved for later.

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
Runway didn't work, sadly I spent a lot of time desperately hoping it did. Couldn't work out why it didn't. I didn't see any damage but several ammo bunkers were damaged and on fire, while splash damage had hit one of my patrols even.
I suspect I'd have got a narrow win of sorts even without the airbase which looks to be a good thing.
Unsure whether others got the repeat victory condition firing for flight to North America mind.

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
OK Here is an updated version (also in original post)
Changes:
1. NATO briefing updated
2. SH-60 on Vella Gulf readied
3. New evacuation destination in Greenland to accommodate the short range evacuation flights
4. Evacuation event now only fires once but gives a whopping 100 pts
5. Soviet positions adjusted a bit
6. Settings on Soviet A2A sweep adjusted, this combined with the new positions should make the air fight a bit tougher
7. Sov TGs now have a CAP
8. Another surprise added - only for the cocky player though [:D]
9. Updated to lated DB
Enjoy
