Notes/Plans:
Mixed emotions on the outcome of Tarakan raid. Need better aircraft (Avengers please!!) and pilots still need months of training to be proficient in hitting CAs with torpedoes and DDs with 1000 lb bombs. DS and separate TFs will head for Balikpapan for one day only of refueling and then back to Soerabaja to reload sorties and torpedoes on CV/CVLs. I expect to find sub converging on both bases and points in between.

Soerabaja - I have spoken to John before on the importance of this base to Allies. I use it for short term repairs on subs and keep them deployed. It is the ONLY relatively safe size 7 or larger port for the Allies at war's beginning. I will be able to reload both CAs and BCs main guns here!! If I was to play Japan with this mod or RA, I would seriously consider an early invasion (mid-December) of Denpasar with its size 3 AF and have an Air HQ there to close down this base and with a capture of Palembang, a semi-blockade of Java.

Does Japan get better damage control in this Scenario?
With the number of bomb hits taken the day before and then on the 7th, all four of those CAs should be toast - level 4 port or no.

Incidentally, I don't arm my Devastators with torpedoes at all since they rarely hit and almost never explode (about one in ten of the rare hits). Armed with 2X 500 lb bombs and attacking at 1000 feet they can get hits and do a lot of damage. Especially good at hitting DDs when nothing else seems to. Even poor skill in Low Nav does not seem to keep them from getting some hits.
Later on when torps get a lot better and Avengers are the mainstay, I go back to torps if there are ships bigger than a CL detected.

Marquesas Islands - John seems to have small SC TF of 5 ships (probably a CL with 4 DDs) to see what I have. At Nuka Hiva, I have 3 AVD with a PBY group of 5 planes. I have troops at San Fran prepping for this base and Hiva Oa, but I may not get a chance to reinforce.

Last turn John wrote that I'll know more in less than a week rather than in Feb/March time frame. This reinforces my thoughts that the WHOLE SoPac is in danger with NZ being isolated. The 20th ID from Korea just took Rabaul. Intel Reports show 2nd & 56 ID at Christmas. There is at least two Assault Divisions in play.

There will be no quick counter on my part. I will proceed with securing the eastern Aleutians with a probable counter invasion of Umnak (troops prep already in 40s). Once PP are not needed there, they will go for troops in route to Cape Town bound for India.

We are barely a month in, I can afford to be patient. Can John?? [;)]

I had evac PM already, so he got it cheap. With the Assault Divisions and now the 20th ID from Korea down here, whatever I had sent there would have been crushed. Knowing John, he will send somebody to Normanton and march down the road for Townsville and Cairns. Its clear terrain and I'll be Russian and exchange terrain for time.

Merak - lots and lots of action here!!

21st - 6 Dutch PT boats find invasion force in daylight (3 DMS, 8 SC, 7 PB, 38 xAKs, CM), but get NO HITS!! Then, 8 American & Brit PTs try their luck vs a second TF of TB, 5 PB, 3 SC, and 17 xAKs and again...NO HITS!! [:@]
6 Dutch bombers leave their base at Bandoeng WITHOUT any fighters to find LRCAP of 27 Zero and 17 Oscars with predictable results. [:(]

22nd - there are 4 rounds of night surface combat with my 2CLs & 4DDs taking on his escorts and leaving the transports mostly alone; 3 DMs and 3 PBs are sunk while the 8 PTs get 2 xAKs; then, his SC TF of 2 CLs and 4 DDs sink all four DDs and leave my 2 CLs close to sinking; again half of my Dutch bombers are lost (6 of 12) as no fighters fly for second straight day.

SoPac - everything you see in screen shot will be captured in the next few months. Only Suva with 2 NZ Bde and just over 250 AV behind level 3 forts will slow him down. I was able to get more supplies here to bring it to 7200, but with multiple divisions in theater, they wont last long. I think John wants me to risk my DS in defending one of these base....NOT!!

Solomons - Not much here, except a Special BF landed last turn at Buin and he captured Lunga a few days ago. More to come in the weeks ahead, but not much from me except subs and more subs.

Eastern DEI - Only three bases captured to date and an Assault Division at Ambon. I have Dutch patrol out of Kendari and American PBYs out of Darwin. Not much going on here for some time.

Borneo - The main base of Balikpapan still holds out. It was the presences of the 4th Marine Rgt that halted the first assault on the base. She used PBYs from Bataan to Jolo to Balikpapan. John doesn't seem to be in a big hurry to capture base. The PT Boats are leaving to try their luck in Java.

Java and Southern Sumatra - Why hasn't John captured Djambi for its oil?? He landed successfully at Merak and seems to be trying to isolate Batavia. I have 612 AV behind level 2 forts. He has two divisions, but I think he needs another one. My Dutch air force has recovered and I'm throwing them in again. I have 2 PT Boat TFs going to head there again after one arrives from Balikpapan. He has left Soerabaja alone and my sub fleet thanks him.
