Hi kosmoface,

Yep, crazy it is. Is the 'verrückt*E*' shorthand for something?

Looks a bit strange.

Cheers,
Cameron

Nope it is just... if you write a sentence like this you would rather write verrückte than verrückt. There's no "verrückt Mischung (= crazy mixture)", proper german is a "verrückte Mischung" But if *I* would translate it, I would rather say "total seltsame mixtur" ("Mixtur" is actually a german word).

Have to say, the *numerous* typos, misspellings, truly "ersatz" usage of German terms, grammatical conventions (even just capitalization... Jesus, CAPITALIZE GERMAN NOUNS) -- or the lack of any convention for mixing German and English terms (which frankly you should just avoid doing) -- all these are exasperating.

Some may say "who cares?" but in a game that leans pretty heavily on the mechanic of 'telegrams' and so forth, it's actually important to get it right.

For example, the telegram screen-shot on the Matrix game page: Rundstedt ("F.M" missing period) is "Kdt. THEATRE, Army Group South", later signs the telegram from "Ostfront" -- there's no rhyme or reason to the mixing of German and English renderings. Army Group South, but Ostfront (not Eastern Front). Again, exasperating.

What he said.

Small typo - if you hover over the unit, the name appears as the 110st Inf.

First, I applaude the game and the original concept behind it. I get the impression it is supposed to be somewhat historical, and therefore I believe the main facts, at least, should be correct. So I have a few comments: Since the German player is represented by Halder, it should be noted that he was not a Field marshal, but generaloberst (equivalent of 4 star general), and chief of the General Staff. He was such responsible for the planning of the attack on the Soviet Union.

Walther von Brauchitsch was not in the OKW. As Commander in chief of the Army he was leader of the OKH (Army High command). So Halder and von Brauchitsch was both working in the same headquarters.

Wilhelm Keitel was leader of OKW.

Also, (I am not German, but I understand German), with all the German typo's: please, use the correct English translation, or the correct German. Many of the pig-German looks like it's Google-translated from English.

Here's one typo: The river Niemen is spelled "Neimen" on the map.

Hi eirikg,

The latest beta version (soon to be official) has Halder at his correct rank and the Niemen (along with a few other river names) shown correctly along with a lot of my flaky German.

You're correct on the German command structure however it's tweaked around somewhat to better reflect actual power relationships that existed (eg. Keitel had significantly less power and influence than his position implied) and for game play reasons.

Cheers,
Cameron

Not all that important, but the correct spelling of the unit of measurement for temperature is Celsius, not Celcius, as it's spelled in the game manual - named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius (1701–1744).

Public Beta 1.03b

All German Panzer commanders still use their englisch ranks.

Also von Schobert is still a "Col. Gen."
The SS commanders are always ...fuhrer - should be ...führer

For me as a German these are immersion killers. Why dont call a Armygroup a Heeresgruppe? Whats the big deal? I guess most people who buy this kind of games already have an interest in WW2 history and they are familiar with the correct terms.

Well, nope :-)

I would be lost with more German language ... I find it sometimes already difficult to guess. :-)

Maybe not so easy to find an interesting balance, but the Aide de camp is telling me something about

Kol. Gen. von Stülpnagen, von Kleist, Busch and Höpner.

Please replace this Kol. Gen. [:D]

Hi nukkxx,

Where have I got 'Herr Von Stulpnagel' ?

@Meteor,
You're suggesting swapping Kol.Gen with Col. Gen?

Cameron

I am very happy with the corrections of the German language.

A little bit is still to do here!
There are still GenLT and GenMaj in the game.
Should be: Gen. Lt. and Gen. Maj.

I am looking forward to start a new game after the corrections.

It should be: "Gen. Oberst" in correct German.
"von Stülpnagel" was mentioned in a report from the Aide de Camp at the beginning of a turn.

And: .... a very good game with superb support. [:)]

There is actually nothing in the game, what you can not quickly look up with Wikipedia, Google or an Internet translator.
Most of the terms are already not unknown for strategy gamers.

I find the use of the German ranks and expressions very immersion enhancing.
But the errors, however, need to be addressed!

I hope we will find this use of original German terms, names, etc. in the coming games.
