NP, just different strokes. I do agree that, while more elevations is better, trying to fill all these slots with varying shades is difficult and desert terrain is particularly so.
I haven't often used the elevation values, although my preferred play is with Contours ON and Hex Grid OFF.
I've played with the files a bit (I use Photoshop), experimenting with saturation and contrast. It seems that any editing almost has to be done on a hex x hex level basis. When I've tried adjusting the entire file, one end of the spectrum or the other either winds up "blown out" (too light), "blocked up" (too dark) or looking like something out of a '60's R&R concert.
In any event, the game's great... just wish there was a simple way to add the new cursor to the WW II games... THAT was the best Xmas present of all for my aging eyes
EDIT: I usually play on a 46" LCD HDTV. I haven't tried it out yet on my newer LED screen (TV). I'll have to look and see how much difference that makes... that might take a while lest I risk the wrath of my SO while hogging the primary TV for my gaming
