We are very confused about the enemies tactic. We awaited all out attack... Fighting with full supplied panzers is no fun, so if there are no enemy attacks next week, we might run back a bit again. The road is open to Moscow, the enemy only has to make a nice walk in the park to reach it...

No losses.

The Red Army continued its rapid retreat on all but the central front, resulting in an inability to make contact with their forces in the north and south. Limited combat did occur in the Smolensk area this week (sorry no map but I couldn't see too many Soviet units in my turn and it would be unfair for me to show the view from Tamas' side) with a very tough fight put up by the enemy in some cases.

Thanks for putting up this conflict.
I hope it is epic.
How are you finding Possum 6?
Some people say it is too hard to play as German or that the Russian air force is too good.
I do hope you find it a balanced game as it is a version that interests me a lot although I may modify some Russian experience levels downward to make it harder as Russian.

From now on there will be bloodshed for every inch of territory we give away. Our defence is now prepared and ready.

No losses.

I think possum 6 is good. It should be hard for the germans. I always thought it is historical for the soviets to have the edge. I think this will be historical game, if I can survive 41. I saved my troops from the early massacre and now they form a quite strong defensive line. I even have a fair second line. I'm optimistic and worried at the same time. Did I do enough? There will be intense fighting from now on. If I can avoid throwing my 3 tank armies into combat, there will be a long blizzard for germans:) The soviet air force will only arrive in 42, but it will cause great losses to the Luftwaffe. In 43 I hope to get even in the air.

Regarding Possum, it is too early for me to tell, but Tamas did a great job of getting his forces away. And even now, they are getting tough to push back where we do have contact.

Back to the front, recon reports of strong defensive lines reached OKW, shocking Hitler who expected "the Soviet Union to collapse once we kicked in the door". Losses are mounting, and reports are coming in of heavy tanks with armor nearly impenetratable by our AT guns.

A direct attack on Kiev failed with heavy losses, but some ground was gained near Smolensk.

Our intelligence reports growing problems with the german supply. We except a drop in the german supply levels. The country is getting inspired by the heroes of Kiev.

Supplies are getting tight at the frontlines now, as the Soviet rail must be converted to our gauge to keep the supplies reaching the front. Kiev continues to hold out against our attacks, while crossing were attempted of the Dnepr further south, without success. In the north, panzers driving due east crossed the Volkhov River southeast of Leningrad, after throwing 3 Soviet groups out of the way.

It's only early august and the enemy has effectively doomed Lenningrad. We have to get our act together fast... In the centre and the south the situation is bad but not as catastrophal as in the north.

No losses this week.

Herr Goering was surprised upon hearing intelligence reports of the massing of Soviet aircraft east of the front near Leningrad. He received a severe scolding from Hitler as he had been reporting the complete elimination of the Red Air Force. This was proved completely incorrect as our planes came across over 1000 fighters in the area.

Also, our panzers in the area were cutoff by the Soviet troops who followed their orders correctly and to the letter. Our further attacks destroyed both weak enemy forces, costing us time in the pursuit of the fleeing enemy. Kiev held out and some other attacks were stopped also.

Herr Goering might get in to more trouble with his boss soon. Our elite fighter units in the north turned to the central are to bomb enemy panzers. Numericaly weak but excellent german fighters caused us great losses, but greater numbers won. The 2nd and 3rd panzer armies only had one fighter unit. They were bombed with everything in range. The enemy escaped with only 600+ planes destroyed as our bombers are not too experienced right now. Times get desperate on the frontlines, but our soliders hold on.

Goering has been sent to personally man a weather station in Greenland to atone for his mistakes in underestimating the Red Air Force. But the offensive continues, with gains due west of Moscow and the surprising fall of Dnepropetrovsk to our hard marching soldaten. But Kiev continues to hold on, much to our chagrin.

Our strongest defense line in the centre was easily smashed by the panzers... We had to back off to our last prepared defensive position before Moscow. It is much weaker then the one just broken through. Seemingly nothing will stop the german warmachine. The evacuation of Lenningrad continues. 3rd Panzer army airfields were attacked by our heavy bombers and Hoth got killed:) We found a way to win? Assasinate every damned german general with precision strikes!

The Luftwaffe made up in part for its defensive failures by weakening a key Soviet army defending the supply route to Leningrad. Our panzers were able to follow up in a heavy week long battle through the swamps near Tikhvin to cut the rail line southeast of Lake Ladoga and so isolate the city of Lenin. The success of this attack was a surprise due to the time the enemy had to entrench and the poor terrain.

Meanwhile, attacks in the center and south areas all failed to gain any ground against our determined enemy.

Lenningrad was doomed, but huge enemy panzer and air forces quickened the demise. Maybe the german high command was irritated by the evacuation of the industry... All mobile tank forces returned to the Moscow front to strengthen the front line. Our heavy bombers tried to bomb the 1st panzer army in the south but they were defeated by heavy fighter defence. In the north one of our armies counterattacked the panzers, when it should have run away from them... In the North we are defeated (no reason to send more troops there at all), in the centre and in the south we are going down slowly with all guns blazing. All we need is to survive 5-6 more weeks, without losing too much strength and territory. Our revenge will be merciless if general winter joins us!

The enemy has crossed the dniepr east of Dnepropetrovsk:( Kiev is still in soviet hands giving an heroic example for the suffering workers paradise. One more month of suffering, then 2 more of changing weather, then our time will come. Our heavy bombers bombed the german 6th army airfields in the south with some succes.

Our brave Axis soldiers ran into a buzzsaw of epic proportions in the east this week, both on the ground and in the air. An isolated Soviet army surrendered, but otherwise all attacks failed. Leningrad at 0 supply and Kiev both held out against our strongest efforts. Things look grim for wrapping up the campaign by year end.

Lenningrad is LOST:( But on all other fronts we stopped the enemy, with the heroic city of Kiev still standing tall in the ocean of fascist invaders. We sent in 2000 more fighters, and now every german air attack in the central and southern area will get challenged by hordes of fighters. We do not care about our air losses there will be no german bombardment for a while (until winter hopefully). Smolensk is still in our hands, and the germans only have one rail line in their hands which supplies the attack against Moscow. Our fighters dropped some papers to the german troops stating that the german high command and the german army is to coward to attack Moscow. Hopefully they get mad and try it:)

No losses this week.

After the fall of Leningrad, further progress in the center and south was expected. However, our brave ground troops have run into a wall of steel and are unable to capture the ruins of Kiev, enlarge a small bridehead in the far south across the Dnepr, or capture Smolensk. Failure everywhere. A deep air raid against a strongly defended airfield near the Urals succeeded, but at heavy loss in bombers.

Hitler proposes halting the offensive until Spring, but the Generals are arguing over the best course still.
