3 days till the Frank R arrives...

About 100 2E bombers and 100 Nicks softened the Allies here..a few dog fights in the skies prior, and then the 33rd division shocks across the river getting good results. The artillery train is perhaps 3 days from joining.

Was it worth losing 15 Nicks to get this result? Would the result have been different if they bombed from 8000 feet instead. There was a supply malus, but most likely it wasn't that great and instead it was the disruption?

Black art, it is.

The Allies throw the kitchen sink at Rabaul...oh my! Battleships, cruisers, light cruisers, destroyers, escort carriers, death star near bye, APA, minesweepers ....you name it and it is here.

One midget got off a decent shot...but missed.

Over 700 mines and very little hit...1 APA and 1 CL (Marblehead).

CD guns, despite being pretty numerous did pitiful some damage...and the Allies land enough troops for almost a 2-1 advantage...plus they landed an armored regiment.[:(]

All of our damaged ships get away cleanly...

Disappointment is the rule of the day...missed opportunities. Please note the Oscars Swept ahead...breaking off from their normal escort duties (of course not all)...this is something I take pains to accomplish and it is satisfying to see it happen here.[:)] Ideally you want to do this with strikes against the Deathstar with Franks.[8D]

I bought out the crack 27th Division from China today. This is basically the first combat unit I have purchased for release in 5 months...so busy buying back the lost troops from the Hollywood invasion.

In 19 days I get a slug of units...I need them desperately.

This is an important post!!!![:)]

This squadron was set to upgrade to the J2M2 (of which I only produced 2 planes) and then to the J2M3 which is in full production.

However, since it gets withdrawn at some point...you can only manually upgrade it IF you have a full compliment of fighters available in the Pools.

So I blew 20K supply to start a J2M2 factory... of which I have managed to build 10 or so.

But...left to auto upgrade at Singers and they did!!!

Thank you local commanders...the plane is desperately needed![&o] Now I have hopes of upgrading two Ki61a sentai to the 61d without waiting on the 61c for a month or more.[:)] So happy.

According to tracker it upgraded straight to the J2M3 skipping the J2M2. However, I missed a day in tracker...so perhaps it did jump to the J2M2...will need to check the save files to be sure.

Go get em, Genda!

She is a screamer!

Only one squadron for now...and the squadron goes away in May of 45...heck, I will be extremely lucky to see May of 45.

Oct 29, 1943

I put some Franks and Tonys up over the troops in the jungle...and now in hindsight I wish I could have put more up, and 3 waves of P40s come in and then the bobmers...so I missed a shot at the dreaded beasties.

The Tony didn't look like it did too well...but I put them there on the off chance the bombers would come first or perhaps in the afternoon....and I think their presence might have degraded the Franks ability some (swag).

Anyhow a decent day in the air here...btw, this is a high altitude (30K) LRCAP which seems to work better than the low layered cap (perhaps because of the lack of numerous radar sets.

The 4E beasties arrived over the jungle in Burma and hit my troops, but then the LRCAP re-established itself for the afternoon and really jumped on the Allied transports.

Interesting that the LRCAP was at 30K, of course, I have no idea what altitude the transports were flying at.

This is so sad.

All those allied ships...and I don't dare attack them...they are too heavily concentrated, to consistent in their movements.

November in a few days....and I get the Frank R![:)]

What other notable Japanese planes come online----none.[:(] Not strictly true...the G4M2 Betty comes along.

On Nov 15 the first two George Sentai arrive, which is really good news. I have the planes and pilots.

I am trying to automatically upgrade a Ki61a Tony squadron to 61d bypassing the normal 61c step. Hopefully it will work.

Can you say ouch....I only dropped about 50 SBDs, I was hoping destroy 150.

Failed plan, but I didn't plan to fail so badly.[:D]

I have detached quite a few good ships for other attempts at retribution somehow.

Funny how I had the light cruisers in a separate task force looking to clear riff raff, and they seemed to bear the brunt of the carrier attacks -- and they basically have no AA.

In good news dept, tracker has let me calculate that the Allies have lost 300 planes in the last week to Japans 120 or so. But I am not destroying the planes I need to be destroying.

Kodiak...I smell opportunity. But how to capitalize?

This is a comparison picture of Obvert v Jocke Nov 1943

Jocke likes his big stacks.

Jocke didn't build Ramree nor did Obvert

Obvert has two tank divisions at Katha?[&:]

I am unsure if Magwe has any oil production left...I think not.

Obvert wanted to defend in the bases for fort building and better resistance to malaria. Obvert really built the forts...

Jocke was much more aggressive in the air.

A stalemate lasted here until the Allies invaded (I recall Tavoy but could be wrong) and Obvert missed evacuating his troops by one day. Utter collapse ensued.

Why post this...mainly because Obvert mentions he has about 500K oil left and 4.4 mil fuel. Now this is scenario 1 and I am 2, but I have 2.6 million oil and 7.5 million fuel.

In addition, I don't want to lose my Burma Army...

I forgot to mention the Sonia B comes along next month too. You say it is a terrible plane, but I say it isn't. It is a key plane to unlock the upgrade path for moving a lot of Sonia squadrons to something a little more meaningful.

My Frank squadrons are in shambles after a week of heavy fighting and bombing.Morale is good, they just need some serous wrench time.

In addition, I really need to start sending back squadrons flying the A6M5, A6M5b, A6M3s, Oscar IIb back for training and rear area coverage. I need to make sure there is enough planes in the pools for upgrades of future arriving squadrons.

Look at all the reinforcements...I think key to Japan's ability to lengthen the war out, is being able to hold the perimeter long enough for these troops to arrive and build morale and experience.

They will almost all go on the lines from Kuriles to Pacific to South Pacific to SRA. Most of the infantry units are fully air mobile.

I got excited to see those South Seas Det. -- I don't recall having them in a scenario 1 game. I was hoping they would be full of SNLF troopers, but alas, just normal rifle squads. Still I will take them, as Japan has a huge thirst for any pixel with a rifle.

Arranging all of the shipping is a little bit of work.

One trick I am doing is setting destination hexes on the front lines bases, and using waypoints for the real destination. Plus I will start loading and unloading ships for the sheer joy, along with setting fake destinations for all sorts of ships etc.

It is important to remember that Allied SigInt doesn't get information from prepping units that target Japanese held bases. My prep is all over the map, one reason is that I have so many rookie troops I think it is better to reach 100 and train than it is to change targets. Perhaps this is wrong?

I see this happening from time to time, but I never found or heard of any way to influence it, other than that numerical superiority seems to help (own observation, no hard data). So I'm very interested: What do you do to accomplish this? How well does it work?

Thanks in advance!
