The Japanese airforce is making a surprizing good comeback, paradoxically because of the shortage of re inforcements. They cannot be commited to full battle every week, so they have plenty of time for training, and the air groups are not losing experience by adding raw pilots....of course the groups are getting smaller.

The Allied land forces appear to be taking the annual memorial day vacation in Borneo.....they have finished clearing Balakpapan and Tarakan, and have unlimited choice of target, but they have not made another landing this week.

US forces in Borneo went to other theatres.
Regarding to intelligence reports - all vital bases like Saigon, Singapore, Manila are heavily manned, so taking them would last until 1947. With no Australian units available it is not a good idea.

Half of Borneo divisions went to Japan (almost there), the rest is bound for southern Australia. Defenders of Melbourne are kicking the butts of invaders. Despite lacking guns and tanks Maj. Gen. Horii is giving extremally stiff resistance. Having Sydney outskirts manned with small Japanese forces also prohibits the land way to Melbourne. Additionally a total number of 3 big battleships is now badly damaged due to recent submarine attacks.
Good thing is that carriers are safe.

Regarding to carriers - US task force of 7 CV + 4 CVL that was operating in Borneo has been splitted to two separate ones.
They'll test their new efficiency in Davao next week.

A pause in Japanese battles will also be conducted. Some of divisions are at 70% manpower so strenghtening them before the final battle of Japan is needed.

In Central Pacific - Adm. Tanaka's battleforce (Yamato, Hiei, one other BB, 2 CA and a CL + ca. 30 AKAs and few APs) is bound for Palmyra, sitting now some 1000 miles southeast of Hawaii.
If they'll go closer some fighting must occur. As far they can be reached only by B29s and P47Ns from Hawaiian islands.
Anyway, Graham has mastered the ability to play tricks with SIGINT so the destination may be fake.

A huge raid of small carriers and old battleships is bound for Sapporo. Some intelligence officers claim that there is japanese factory located.

Sad thing is, that despite 2 years of intense bombing raids on Japan - they still got many planes, supplies and fuel ... Even the routine convoy system is working if Nagoya is left alone for 2 weeks ... Anybody knows how to destroy their pools ?
Many K-43, Ki-67, Ki-48, Ki-84 are reported operating.

The only real effect of smashing the industry is stopping of ship building ... Only few PC were produced in last year ...

No nukes needed

Post by Graham Smith »

It is end of August 1945, and no nukes have been delivered.....but that is hardly necessary. For example, last week the Emporer lost 35,000 loyal subjects to a single carrier raid on Aomori.
Maybe the a bomb cant be used if there are no factories left to destroy?

The fall of Tokushima

Post by deVada »

Last week, 6 allied infantry divisions (incl. 3rd Marines) landed surprisingly at Tokushima.
But first that part of Japan was almost cutten off and was close to becaming an island due to heaviest bombardment in the history of naval battles. 10 battleships, 15 heavy cruisiers, a hundred of destroyers accompanied by 15 big flattops, 10 small ones and circa 30 escort carriers have given the biggest FSNAB in history. All air wings around also contributed to the attack.
After 4th battle round the base fell. Japanese casualties three times higher.

Just now Imperial GHQ is evacuating Nagasaki (only two units remained as an rear guard) so invasion of Hiroshima is considered. The occasion is good due to low enemy readiness and lack of entrenchments ...
US Navy is ready for another onslaught.

Nothing revolutionery in Australia, both Sydney and Melbourne gave much higher looses to the enemy, but Melbourne needs some more support to be taken.
Good that US divisions previously engaged in Philipines have finally reached Sydney. A breakthrough is possible finally.

Tanaka with Yamato, Hiei and Kirishima (all on fire) is stuck wihout fuel southeast of Hawaii. Only P47Ns and B29 are reaching his force, bit without more bombers killing the huge group is impossible. Some heavy cruisiers have reached the area, so maybe he'll be intercepted soon. PBMs are keeping to track him.

Two A bombs are now available, but it is going to take longer than expected to find a Japanese factory to be destroyed.
Searching is still in progress.

Nagoya

Post by Graham Smith »

Allied forces landed in Nagoya, but were met by four entrenched Japanese Divisions, who were motivated to defend their homeland. Odds zero.

Unfortunately, even with these odds, it is impossible to inflict serious casualties without tanks or guns.

Resources, squads, supply and fuel remain plentifull in the homeland and rear bases, despite three years of bombing. I really can't see how an invasion of Japan can be successfull in this version, except maybe in the window of early 1943, before all the Imperial HQ divisions arrive.

The routine convoy system springs to life every few weeks, without discernable reason, and delivers supply to to the most unexpected places. One base which has been isolated since early 1943, received it first supply in over two years.

Atomic attack !

Post by deVada »

was a total failure...
B29s from 9th bomb wing stationed on Bonin Island, flown to Tokyo with all 40 machines under over 100 fighters in escort.
Unfortunatly the B29 nicknamed "TNT Worldwide" carrying the bomb was one of 2 bombers shot down by flak batteries.

Japanese Imperial Command has just threatened that the captured A bomb will be dropped on San Francisco.
The carrier would be A5M Claude Imperial fighter !

Nagoya has fallen

Post by Graham Smith »

The four divisions defending Nagoya were reduced to an average readiness of about 40 by the most intense bombadment in the history of warfare, and they finally surcumbed to the combined might of about a dozen Allied divisions.

There must be around 25 Allied divsions in the homeland now. There is fierce debate in the war cabinet, about whether the final offensive should be launched now, or should we wait for a few more divisions to walk into the trap.

The Emperor has decided to offer the Allies one last chance to surrended, before he gives the order to throw all the roundeyes back into the sea.

regarding Allied Abomb targetting.....only Sapporo and Aomori have one unit of aircraft factory each, Sendai has one unit of heavy industry. No other factories are available in any other city to act as targets for A bombs

Factories

Post by Capt. Harlock »

Wow -- you mean ALL of Tokyo's factories have been destroyed? That's more than I ever managed to do!
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

no factories

Post by deVada »

I suspect that no more than 5 places are producing anything in Japan at all ...
Nagoya fallen last week ... Tokushima in my hands ...
Osaka, Kagoshima and Nagasaki was mine even before ...

As I remember Japan is under heavy bombardement regularly since 1943 ...
But Graham is still having many planes ... No very modern but A5M was also good !

Supply level in Japan is still good, but as for what can I see - most of other areas have 1 supply ...

After the fall of Melbourne (I am hoping that it will come one day !) and with Australian divisions I'll be able to take Tokyo in the autumn of 1945. Time is running ...

VPs are now 210000 vs 146000 in favor of allies ...
Do I really need 300000 ?

we are planning another game already ...

Factories

Post by Graham Smith »

Grand total of Japanese "industrial might" is:
Tokyo, no factories at all
Hiroshima, no factories at all
Sendai, one heavy industry with capacity 1
Aomori, one shipyard with capacity 1, one aircraft factory with capacity 1,
Sappora, one aircraft factory with capacity 2
All other homeland cities, are under the heel of brutal Allied occupation.

A score of 300,000 is not necessary to win. The Allies still have almost three months until 1946. If the Allies could take say 20,000 control points from the Japanese, that would reduce the Japanese score to 126,000, while simultaneously increasing Allied score to 230,000. Then if the Allies can inflict 30,000 more casualty points, it will be very close to a draw......a score of about 260,000 should therefore be sufficient.

The trade off for the allies, is how many civilians can the air raids kill, compared to how much is it worth to soften up Tokyo ground units with airraids.
An single air raid can kill anywhere between zero and 35,000 civilians. Say an average of 8000 civilains per raid (80 points?). 20 raids in a week is say 1600 points per week just in civilians. (I wonder if the real Tojo could consider civilian losses just in some term of points)

Does anybody know how many control points Tokyo is worth?

Points for Tokyo

Post by Capt. Harlock »

I'm not sure if Tokyo is allocated any resource or oil points in Version 3.0. (If it is, 10 points for each Oil or Resource point.) Assuming no resources, Tokyo is worth 90 points for the airfield plus 90 points for the port--and, according to the Data Card rules, 20,000 bonus victory points for the Allies if they capture it.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

November 1945

Post by Graham Smith »

A bloodbath in Nagoya....four Japanese Divisions with half strength squads, without tanks, without guns, experience in the low 50s, defending against 13 fully armed allied divsions, who are supported by uncounted aircraft and bombardment fleets.....a hopeless fight, but every week that they hold, gives the Emporer time to prepare the planned counter attack that will sweep the invaders into the sea.

Japanese airforce was assembling in Taiwan for counter attack in the event of invasion of Tokyo.......Allied intelligence spotted the concentration, and wiped out 682 aircraft, mostly on the ground.
Could this be the last gasp of the Imperial Japanese Airforce?

Still no A bomb attack......is Tibbets is a secret pacifist?

november 1945

As the war ends US troops are gathering in Nagoya (there are more than 15 divisions there) for final attack on Tokyo.
All means of transport and all available navy elements are ready.
In meantime, all efforts to reduce enemy strenght in both bases are taking place.
Even an A bomb was dropped again (a third one), but the result was poor ...
Actually - there was no clue of it's impact. Please take my advice and warning Allied Generals:
"You must leave one factory intact for each A bomb to be dropped in the future".
Next week will see invasion of Tokyo.

In other areas - IJA scored 4 CVE in Morotai's harbour.
One has sunk ... **** kamikazes ...

Melbourne has fallen finally. A tactic of loading a division to ship, giving the task force to go to the same base that they're in actually worked fine. You may trigger as many land battles as desired...

In meantime a new - even more impressing trick was discovered.

Do this:
1. create an emty transport task force in any enemy port
2. order it to load air group

and You can see many interesting thingies !
even better than SIGINT !

Tokyo Invasion

Post by Graham Smith »

The six Japanese divisions defending Tokyo, had their readiness reduced from 99%, to between 21% and and 33% BEFORE the first wave of invaders even hit the beach...the allied bombardment was just awesome in its power and duration.

Despite this loss of readiness, the Tokyo defenders rallied behind the Emporer, and successfully defended against 6 successive waves of barbarian invaders. The odds reached 4:1, so the next attack could be ......? While the Emporer is still supremely confident that Toyko is invincible, he has taken the precaution of evacuating the royal geisha and Imperial HQ to Sendai.

In Sydney, the boys on both sides appear have run out of bullets, and are reduced to trading insults with each other....at least that is what I conclude from the absence of casualties on both sides after most attacks.

good defense !

Post by deVada »

The presence of the Emperor in the first line surely helped ...

If I could have 30 more APs ready at Nagoya the result might be better, but I do not have a single spare transport ...

As US&AUS&UK troops will sturm the gates of Tokyo again this week. With good readiness (some supplies are being delivered from Nagoya) and with many fresh divisions swimming from other Japanese cities the Capital of Evil must fall at least  !

Of course all navy elements in the area will again pound defenders using all available guns and bombs.

In other areas:
Saipan capturing attempt no 17 was taken by forces totally of division's weight but as usual they failed to capture the island ...
They have departed to Japan after two weeks. I wonder why the hell I cannot seize a base isolated for two years with one battalion ! Coco-nuts and bananas must be totally eaten at the moment ... :D

In Australia - nothing interesting will happen ever, since 90% of Melbourne capturing squads left to Japan. They're half the way right now. Will they make it before war's end ? :p

Results of Tokyo battle to follow

to endure the unendurable

Post by Graham Smith »

It is now November 1945, and it is time to end the senseless fighting

The Allies have offered an honourable peace...all they require is that the Emporer says he is sorry for Pearl Harbour.

Standby for formally announcement on radio Tokyo:

......"My loyal subjects, the enemy has immense material superiority, we must therefore endure the unendurable. I must say sorry for Pearl Harbour......so I will say it:
I am truely sorry.....truely sorry that we didnt sink more of the bastards while we had a chance."
