"HAVE A BIG STICKY LETTING PEOPLE KNOW NOT TO CREATE NEWBIE THREADS OR NOT TO ASK QUESTIONS UNTIL THEY READ ALL THE MANUAL AND WATCH ALL THE VIDEOS."
This shows how much you pay attention and it makes my point. There are sticky threads on how to post issues, what to do before asking questions, etc. In fact, the new player link was sent to you multiple times. You ignored them. Even after you were called out on it. There is no way you ever looked at a manual or watched a video and not know F3, let alone how to use attack commands.

And hopefully a last point to dis-spell the comment that the community won't help new players. Go look at this guy's first thread. Multiple people, including myself, answered questions, pointed out where documentation was located, and handed out links to resources. That went on for a couple days. And this is where it ended up because this poster still doesn't want to have to do anything to learn the game.

RE: Newbie Question(s).
I am so sorry to UD that I asked about auto/manual attack twice -- shit happens. It takes a long time to get through all the material, videos PDFs, etc. in the interim questions get asked. It is totally unacceptable that I have to explain what I have done as far as learning etc. and it is much less acceptable and extremely poor behaviors to berate/attack etc a newbie asking questions on the forum. some things seem really obvious to you, are not to others learning the game. As far as I am concerned if I was the admin here I would ban you from these boards because you have no right to berate people asking questions about a game nor do we owe you an explanation on what we are going through to learn the game.
EDIT:
"Multiple people, including myself, answered questions, pointed out where documentation was located, and handed out links to resources. That went on for a couple days. And this is where it ended up because this poster still doesn't want to have to do anything to learn the game."
Totally wrong. I can have an encyclopedia on this title, it would still take a lot of time to go through it, learn it, etc. In the interim questions get asked, maybe twice if the concepts didn't stick the first time. Shit happens.

RE: Newbie Question(s).
I really didn't think I would have to do this, but again, you have shown an inability to find stuff yourself.
This current thread, plus this thread...
tm.asp?m=4342191
Over 3 days, 5-6 different people, including a dev, tried to answer questions for you. S**t happens because you don't read anything or pay attention to the entire video.
Am I really going to have to deconstruct the entire other thread point by point. Even after I answered one of your questions, you admitted you didn't like to do the homework to learn the game. You thought the tutorials were boring. Do you think that motivates people to help you? Just admit you are one of those guys that wants to jump into a game without learning it, which is what I suspected from the beginning. No harm in that, a lot of people do that. But when a half dozen or so of experienced people who have been through the same learning process and have seen a number of people go through tell you how to learn the game, you should consider it.
In the end, this is supposed to help you learn the game. Pushing back now and then on people trying to play the game without actually learning comes from seeing people getting frustrated because they can't make the game do what they want. Again, you are completely free to post whatever you want, but I will warn people to not waste time if you aren't going to make some minimal effort.

My point exactly. You are making it for me.

RE: Newbie Question(s).
I actually went back a year to find where a new player was "berated" for asking basic questions. Three points:
1) There are people that ask basic questions
2) I couldn't find one going back a year who was "berated" for asking a question...it was an imperfect search, but I think I would have remembered it
3) I couldn't remember or find a single person, that when they asked a basic question, didn't take advice to watch videos, play tutorials, and use the documentation as a reference.
That doesn't mean a few new players haven't gotten in debates about how some things work in the game. But those weren't about how much they knew about the game. And we had a few random sock puppets over the years.

ballyhoo
If you are not ready to invest a lot of time to learn this genre of war game, we can not help. It's not uncommon for people to ask the forum about the game's complexity prior to purchasing. To a man we say this is a daunting simulation that requires time and patience to learn. Yes, more than any turned based ground warfare or RT FPS out there. thewood1 and I had at it a year ago when I first joined and I just took the guy's advice and went off and learned for a few weeks on my own. I have like five scenario designs under my belt and have lots of friends here to boot. Take your time. You will learn more by doing than asking at this point.

RE: Newbie Question(s).
Hey ballyhoo!
I've got a feeling that we are in similar situations: we both have a lot of questions about this gigantic piece of a software. It is totally normal to not know.
I have a strong urge to flood this forum with questions. Not because I'm some kind of troll, but simply because there is so much to know about. Hovewer... more experienced players here are right: The best way to learn, and especially about the things you are mentioning, is to read the manual, FAQs, forums, watch Youtube videos, etc. There is no other way, and it is just a part of game's charm. I mean, whole C:MANO is just like gigantic, interactive encyclopedia with tons of reading to do. Don't get me wrong, but if you don't want to read a lot, why do you even choose this program? There is not much else to do except reading and imagine things, you know. And it by no means make it bad, just specific.
When I was playing C:MANO for the first time, I probably replayed first tutorial for about dozen times, with wikipedia and other things opened in the background. I am almost positive that I spent more time reading about units, operations and weapons than actually playing it. It just that kind of a game. So take it easy. Read the whole manual. Then watch videos. Then read the manual again. Then ask questions.
Not to be rude here, since I'm totally a newbie too, but... cavitation is probably one of the most basic terms if you are at least slightly intersted in the topic. And rules of manual engagement are also basics, easly to find on many YT videos. (Though I have to confess, that I also "simulated" the whole scenario, accidentally turning the time acceleration on highest. Biggest victory in my carrer, and the only proof is the message window
)
This game requires a lot of reading and learning, and reading again. Without it, 90% of the content will fly over your head like a Tomahawk.

RE: Newbie Question(s).
I pretty much stay silent about things like this unless something really bothers me. Guess what? I'm bothered. Some of you on here have acted like total pricks. If you don't want to help the guy that's fine. Then don't respond to his posts. He doesn't need to prove how much he's read, watched or anything else before he's allowed to ask questions. He can ask his questions and you can either help him or ignore him. In spite of what some of you think you don't run these forums. I'm personally calling you out thewood1 because this is the second thread I've witnessed you get nasty with people for asking questions. The first time was when somebody asked about a scenario involving Syria and their civil war.
Seems to me some of you have forgotten what it was like to be a noob. Not everybody has the time to do all the 'homework' that some of you do before playing a game. Not everybody learns things the same way either. Some people can read/watch everything and it still won't kick in without asking questions. Other people learn by just jumping in and doing then asking questions. That's too bad if it bothers some of you. You either help or ignore. Writing salty, smart ass posts questioning a person's commitment to learning the game is uncalled for.

RE: Newbie Question(s).
You didn't look very good because you berated somebody just recently for asking a question about a Syrian Civil War scenario. You claimed the guy got political. Funny thing is even he did and it somehow offended you, no one forced you to respond. You were even a total dick even after he tried to explain/apologize for any offense to you. The same thing has happened in this thread too. Nobody forces you to respond to anybody's questions. They certainly don't have to prove to you how much they've read or watched attempting to learn the game. You either help people or you don't. There's no need for you to be a total asshole about it though.ORIGINAL: thewood1

I hope you didn't get the impression of me being rude. I, personally, have nothing against newbies asking questions (I'm one of them myself, I've registered here today!), but I just wanted to share my own experience: once or twice I happened to ask a question on Steam and I was able to find the answer before somebody answered me. And certainly the quickest way for ballyhoo to know about a cavitation is to type it in google. From my experience, it is a lot easier to learn something as a whole (like, from the manual), instead of just randomly getting some answers about things.
But you are right, everyone have their own way, and more importantly, if there is anyone who wants to answer, then there is no problem. Worst case, the thread goes down with 0 replies.
But my intentions were positive, and I have nothing against "newbie" threads, as long as they are coherent and actually go somewhere.

RE: Newbie Question(s).
I think I could have responded less personally to Wood's self-righteous arrogance. He had no right to treat me the way he did and I don't know if he has done it to other posters but I would ask others not to talk down to people like that. What balls Wood has to talk smack to people learning a game! At the same time I totally understand the need to do the leg-work. But I like to ask human being s questions. You cannot ask a PDF or a video a question (or Wood) but human beings can add something to a question, like personal experience, or whatever. Anyways I should not have responded to woods lousy behavior by more lousy behavior. the leg work is important too. tonight I very closely watched Balloogans sub tutorial, rewound several parts and at the same time played the same parts I was watching. He does things I don't quite understand, like he scrolled over the goblin sub and somehow his weapons allocation window opened up. . I could not get that window to open up like he did but-- no big deal. I was not able to change the direction of the mark 48 after launch either, but if I play around I will figure it out later on. Thanks again Kevin(?)I hope you are starting to really enjoy the title.
Edit: I will keep on the video tutorial bc when you play the scenario at the same time you can really gain some
experience. What do they call experience like that in the navy, when a sailor is no longer green? I know they have special word for it. soon enough the sea trials will be over for sure. Thank you!

+1 to this. Answer or do not answer. If you feel someone is being lazy...leave it. If someone replies to your question with unwarranted aggro...leave it.
It feels unpleasant and I worry it will put people off trying the game when they see unnecessary snark in the forums. Yeah, people should read the manual before they ask questions, but there are lots of things people *should* do...

Guys, everyone please take a breath. This thread has gone off the rails a bit. We all want the same thing at the end of the day.
