I need buttons instead of labels on the locations

Post by larryfulkerson »

If I could have one wish for TOAW IV I would wish for buttons instead of labels for the locations of the units so that
I could click on the button for that location and have the display disappear and have the map center on that location.

Yes I feel that's obvious. I find it very difficult to find specific units.

Well this is only for the expected reinforcements windows, so there are no present units here. Such button would take you to the location that they would eventually appear. OOB panel and recent reinforcements panel have such buttons.

I have been using the "B" hotkey and entering the location cords to take me to the location.

I cannot find these buttons. Could you provide a screen shot?

Sorry, I was wrong. The only screen that does this is the "recent reinforcements". Don't know why the OOB couldn't do that.
So I support Larry here.

Anyhow I found a work around:

1. Zoom out

2. Open the OOB screen and select the unit

3. Wave the mouse about the map. Once the mouse is with the movement range of the unit, the arrows appear and you have found your unit.

Also, remember that numpad 5 centers the unit on the map, for those using the keyboard.

I also like the idea of buttons instead of labels for locations.

I would like in OOB Units that if I click on the Unit button (in the Unit column) its Unit Report appears; if I click on the Formation button (in the Formation column) its Formation report appears; and if I click on its on-the-wishlist Location button (in Location column) the maps moves there (for me without closing the dialog yet at that moment).

----
EDIT: I moved the part below with a related question to the Tech forum here as a technical thread.
----

Currently I find the behavior of the Unit button in the lists confusing. It seems that:

Unit button in the Recent Reinforcements dialog:
- Left-click moves the map and selects that unit (yellow ring).
- Right-click moves the map, selects the unit and also opens its Unit Report.

But the Unit button in the OOB Units dialog (screenshot):
- Right-click moves the map and opens the Unit Report, but the selected unit gets a grey ring(?) (I see no yellow ring but can center on it with 5).
- Left-click does not move the map, there is no click sound, and only closes the OOB Unit dialog (I can then center on the clicked unit with 5 but again it has no yellow ring).
Is this correct?
