[FIXED B972.13] Chains of war mission 1 repeatedly crashes

Post by Gerbilskij »

Hello,
I am experiencing repeated crashes (CTD) after a random short amount of time while playing Mission 1 of Chains of War. I don't know if other missions presents the same problem because I yet have to finish the first one. For the moment I'm unable to link the problem to specific events or behaviour, seems just to happen randomly after a few mins (but not the same time).

Let me now if I need to provide more info.

Thank you in advance

Thank you. Please find here my (latest) save game for that scenario. I can confirm that the crashes are continuing, usually within 1-5 minutes of play time.

Let me know if I you need any other info.

I'm having the same issue specifically with Chains of War Scenario 1 Blue Dawn. It keeps crashing at random times about every 5 minutes. It's gotten to the point that I have to save every few minutes. I have autosave disabled to save system resources and to some degree reduce disk usage on my SSD. I've never had this problem with any of the standalone or community pack scenarios. With other scenarios I've sometimes had very laggy performance and occasional freezes that last a few seconds, but I've never had crashes that result in the game completely shutting down and the Windows prompt appearing that says the application has been closed and that Windows will send an error report to Microsoft, yada yada.

Here's a save file. The game crashed about 4 minutes after this, but I was able to reload and play for about another 10 minutes after that before it crashed again. So the problem seems intermittent as I've reloaded several times from this same save point and gotten varying degrees of time before it crashes again.

Btw, I'm running the Steam version.

Can we please have each distinct crash case in its own thread, as we kindly ask? Thank you in advance.

As a follow up to my post above, I took a look at the Windows error logs. All of the crashes show the same error, an application error with the following details:

My apologies! I already had posted this thread detailing (as best as I could) my issue, but since people were detailing similar issues here as well, I thought I could add my voice too. Once again, my apologies.

Yes, there is something about submarine docking operations, and one of the Lua methods. This dump reflects the problem. Interestingly, on a slower PC it does not seem to have an issue (or it is more rare), but on a faster one it does.
This Lua function has been disabled for the time being while I think of a better way of doing it which wont make command go crazy.[:o]

Thanks Dimitris! I'll give 972.13 a try tonight or tomorrow and update this thread with my results.

Hi Dimitris,

972.13 seems to fix the problem with Chains of War Scenario 1. I've managed to play about 30 more minutes of game time (also about the same amount of real time) without any crashes. I'll let you know if anything changes.

Thanks for the quick fix!
