At the beginning of the game Mike stated he was not interested in taking out China completely and that he just wanted to clean up his lines. The fighting did not go his way and he really didnt focus enough armor to make the breakthroughs he needed. At this point it would be very difficult for him to push forward as I have 4000 AV in Wuchang and 3800 AV at changsha. At one point I moved a large army and encircled Hankow but retreated to prevent being cut off.
Woah, did not realize it is possible to deny active Japan any advancement whatsoever. Well played.
Still, he should've known your supply situation and continue pushing (and bombing). Raw AV becomes much less impressive with zero supply.

He hasnt strat bombed any factories and is bombing troops but sporadically. I think he has the targets set on commander choice because there does not seem to be any method to the bombing.

Dutch troops retreated to Bandoeng. They are in supply. Mike attacked and claims that the game engine is bad because he lost about a division's worth of troops in the attack.

I think he didnt have enough support, hasnt bothered to combine his regiments into divisions and probably didnt do any prep for the assault. The one division he did attack with still had AV 409 after the battle.

Apparently some reader decided to break opsec and/or player relations by choosing to misinterpret what I have posted here and pass it along to my opponent.

This is a primary reason why I dont bother with AAR's.

Yamato wakes up in a cold sweat with visions of burning carriers dancing before his eyes...

During the night phase the japanese oilers were hit twice.

In the day phase before any air attacks the Carrier group was hit by 2-3 STF groups essentially killing 4 carriers and leaving the other 2 damaged.

We are gonna redo the turn without my attacks to prevent the fastest win in wargmr history.

If you are giving him a Mulligan it already IS a victory for you.

You're now starting your second game with one victory under your belt.

"...Also, I added the 4th Yamato to the Japanese ship building list as it was already under construction at game start, also 2 more Tone's and 2 Taiho's. This just Japan options to develop real options, no more ship yards are added, so to build anything, you have to shut other things down. "

The two Taihos are a big deal for Japan, but without the scenario 2 extra economy stuff, it's going to strain Japan's economy to build them. Any idea when they are launched in this mod?

Mike didnt indicate when they would arrive. Doesnt seem sporting for the Allied player to know anyway.

No less sporting than the Japanese player knowing the entry hexes for off board boxes!

A PB takes a torp off Palembang. Mike's sub game is very deep and effective.

Mine is as usual, ineffective yet annoying occasionally for the other player. 6 months until real torpedoes.

Over the past month since my occupation of Lunga was discovered my opponent has used his carrier forces, LBA from Rabaul and bombardments to harass the troops and prevent re-supply. He has been largely successful and has cut my supply by 1/2. I have tried to use fighters at the base but lost quite a few in sorties and due to bombardments.

I had an amphibious group set for Ndeni but the carriers were nearby and I aborted to Vanua Lava. The carriers still got within range and sank the convoy but enough troops were left behind to rebuild the units.

2 turns ago I saw the carriers heading a bit south again, probably looking for shipping. I moved the fighter squadrons that I had room for to Luganville. Last turn I had a destroyer and a TF of PT boats in the harbor and within 7 hexes of his carriers but no sorties flew against the fleets.

For July 3 I put a small cargo ship with the destroyer and was allowing a small shipping convoy to approach Luganville.

The morning of July 3rd the skies over Luganville are met with multiple sweeps of Zero's from the carriers. Eventually they overwhelm the CAP.

My CAP settings were 15K feet 60% so he got the jump on my pilots. However, there were enough planes left to sortie a counter attack.

Surprisingly, 2 hits were landed on his carriers by SBD-2 Dive Bombers.

The first one was a Belt Armor Penetration that caused fires below deck. The second one was a Flight Deck Penetration that caused severe damage.

On the day the Japanese kills in the air were higher but I will trade his carrier pilots happily at 5-1 or less.

The result of the day?

Japanese carrier damage repair is fickle. I may not have done all that much damage. In reality the psychological damage may be more than the physical damage.

Any major damage will need repair and that is at a base far away so for at least a period of time the Japanese carrier presence will be diminished.

It is looking like a re-supply emergency mission will be in the offing within the month. Things are going to get interesting. Meanwhile, maybe I can pick off another carrier or two with subs or tricks.

If it were the Hiryu you have a good chance of putting it out of flight ops with those two hits and he will need some yard time to repair it.

As can by typical with WITPAE the next day was uneventful although I did get to shoot torpedoes at 2 carriers. The groups moved 8-9 hexes per day so the flotation/engine damage was not as severe as I would have liked it to be.

Here is a quirky little fight. I didnt expect much when I saw the lineup but a DD managed to put enough hurt on a CL that it sunk. The DD didnt make it out of the battle either.

Katori and Kashima were training cruisers with little armour and slower speed than usual for a cruiser. Whenever I have encountered them in the several games I played they fared poorly, even with weaker opposition such as your case above.

I think my opponent hurt himself by grouping an AK with his warships as well. I would have had 2 groups with the AK escorted by one of the DD's. The task force had to get underway and that probably helped a lot.
