You lost a lot of xAK there, but if that means you get a favourable CV battle, it's worth it. Especially since he'll be slightly weaker after losing some planes. I'd go flank speed and see if you can get very close, or even behind him on the PH side. If you then battle you'll have a great chance to pick off wounded.

[:-]TEASE! Looks like nothing happened to the Deathstar or you attack fractured and failed.[:(] Attacking into severe storms is tough, especially for the torpedo bombers.

He won't be slightly weaker if he is using his replenishment carriers in their intended role.....

I'll keep preaching this and lauding the obvious benefits until it actually catches on.

Nicely done.[&o]

Your cap was low...and all the same altitude. You got lucky.[:-], because 14K altitude was ideal to counter this strike. Amazing, and knowing you it wasn't blind luck.[:)]

I am not sure how the Allies think a 60 fighter escort would get thru...but if they would have struck at 15K with an approach at 18K many more bombers would have gotten thru.

Strange to see the George, but somehow invigorating![:)]

Allies had way too much CAP at 5k and 10k and not nearly enough at 15k and 20k. Have you been attacking him very low?

Super well done.

Anytime you get a clear strike where you hurt the Allies for nothing sunk or even damaged in return, you gotta be happy! Well done! [&o]

He has some choices to make for tomorrow. Keep the DS around and risk it all, or give up a few fast BB, a CV and a CVL.

Something seems wrong with those carrier capable modded Georges. Only 26 lost out of 150+ escort flying twice against 200+ CAP predominantly Hellcats? Pilot quality is not an issue for the Allies in the end of 43 I believe, so that looks a bit too strong, me being a JFB.

Go back and look, Mike. I posted a screen shot of Air Losses.

I had some Jill and Judy groups almost totally wiped out. Some near by Judy and Jill groups were flown out to the CVs to allow some degree of strike capability so I can pursue.

There wasn't enough A2A between fighters for my liking, so the Judy/Jill took the losses hard. Yes, there are two versions of the George that can be placed on CVs, but the Allies do get more Hellcats and Corsairs in this mod. I was surprised to still see Wildcats being used.

Anytime you get a clear strike where you hurt the Allies for nothing sunk or even damaged in return, you gotta be happy! Well done! [&o]

He has some choices to make for tomorrow. Keep the DS around and risk it all, or give up a few fast BB, a CV and a CVL.

I'm hoping that Essex was hurt enough with the Ammo Explosion and maybe some BBs are at risk. I cannot believe that KB escaped without any damage to her ships. [:)]

Allies had way too much CAP at 5k and 10k and not nearly enough at 15k and 20k. Have you been attacking him very low?

Thanks for the kind words, Jeff. [&o]

I've been attacking between 10k and 14k for the whole war. Fighters at 14k, DBs at 13k, and TBs at 12k. This is Brian's first game to get to '43, let alone the whole war. I'm almost to my longest game which was to Apr '44 before my opponent quit (RL issues).

Japan probably did have an edge in pilot quality, but the CAP was primarily set too low to be super effective.

However Michael divined it, he had perfect settings both on offense and defense. Impressive![&o]

A slaughter against massive CAPs, but as the KB was unscathed and caused major damage to a CV, CVL and 3 BBs he could be in serious trouble if you have enough to go after him for one more day. He might have to cut his loses and sacrifice a few ships to save the rest or just risk another toe to toe day and hope for better results. Nice to see you able to best the DS. Looking forward to round two as the heavy weights go toe to toe , maybe.

Task forces break off...

Even since I player John 3rd in G'canal scenario just after AE came out, I almost always have my CVs "follow" a SC TF. He sent in his Kongos back then and severely damaged my 2 CV TFs. I was rubbing my hands in glee when this popped up. Not happy with the result, but his DDs did their job.

Notes:
Air Losses are heavy for Japan...226 (109 Judy, 81 Jill, and just 9 George) vs 39A.

Screenshot - A part of KB is highlighted to the west (over 400 planes worth) and NEVER participated in these clash. I had 9 CVs & 4 CVLs involved.

KB and Company are ordered back to Truk. I went through my non-KB based DB and TB groups harvesting their most experienced pilots.

The question for my readers...Was it worth it? Did I buy myself more time?? I don't know if I sunk anything, but the shipyard at Pearl will be busy for some time.
