German Translation

Post by Eagle-FZS »

Hello

My name is Dirk Wodrich. In 2003, I founded the Feldzugschmiede with a focus on LCGs and scenario, graphics, sounds, units and the German translation of the games EFII, WF and RS.
After a long abstinence, I dug up and updated JTCS. I will now gradually adapt the files we have created to JTCS.
My question is now whether there is interest in these files and a German translation

Hallo Dirk!

Ist deine Webseite 'Feldzugschmiede' noch aktiv und was hast du alles 'lokalisiert' und/oder übersetzt?
Is your website 'Feldzugschmiede' still active and what have you localised and/or translated?

Dirk

Roger that. The main URL I found out is now Gamershall...

I am sure Jason or somebody else will drop you a line about utilising the localised/translated German bits. I take it you did the scenario descriptions, the unit info and so on? In case you got an active blog, drop me a line and I'll add a link at 'Die Hauptkampflinie'.

Meine Frage richtete sich mehr an deutsche Spieler denen ich die eine oder andere Datei schicken könnte.
Um es professionell anzugehen fehlt mir die Zeit und ich glaube nicht das noch genügend deutsche Spieler da sind die sich dafür interessieren damit sich der Aufwand lohnt
Für mich selbst werde ich es aber soweit wie möglich anpassen

My question was directed more at German players whom I could send one or the other file.
I do not have enough time to do it professionally and I do not think there are enough German players who are interested in making the effort worthwhile
For myself, however, I will adapt it as much as possible

Gotcha! Guess you also can advertise it at the SI-Forum; me and BigDuke are still active there; TOAW IV and now the revamped Campaign Series...

I have compiled the translated files in a ZIP file and added terrain and trees as well as partial colored commanders.

Unzip the file into the modfolder and select it with JSGME

Eagle-FZS,

That's nice work!![&o]

My German is terrible so I'll stick to English but this will greatly help out our German gaming friends.

I wonder if its cross compatible? That is, say I start a PBEM game with someone in Germany and he has the translation loaded.

Will he see German when I send the turn to him and when he sends it back to me will I see English?

I think that will happen because the translation is in the machine and not the PBEM file but I don't know for sure without trying it.

Cheers!

Excellent work! As Vader would say: 'Impressive, most impressive!' I'll spread the word through the usual social-media channels at my disposal; it already went quite viral.

Frohe Ostern!

Only way to find out is to, well, trying it. I recall that, back in the 90s, the Steel panthers DE/EN versions PBEM files caused issues...

In case you're planning an AAR of some sort or snippets, drop me a line. I'd promote it via the usual means.

Happy Easter to you Buckeyes there! BTW, how did the March Madness College Basketball turn out so far for OH?

These are only graphics files that have no influence on PBEM

Yeah I guess if you don't know try it. If your interested, send a small EFII or WF scenario over to me and we can try it for a few turns and see how it works.

Only way we'll really know I guess.

I can be reached at jpirman555[at]gmail[dot]com.

Buckeyes were in March madness but lost in second round against Gonzaga. Hey, the Bucks made it after being out two years in a row. All us Buckeye fans are happy they at least made it!

Championship is Monday Michigan against Villanova. Should be a great game!

Well that's good news Eagle-FZS. It should work then across languages.
