Some questions after my initial pbem impressions

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

I am with you in the gameplay issues private Ben, byt why make this a case against a specific player though? The mechanics are there for him and everyone else to use.

Sugar I fail to recall this tactic being used in WW2, at least not being the norm. In WW2, when opponents would scramble fighters en masse without bombers, it would never be as a bluff or to force enemy fighters to intercept - because the enemy would simply stay put. When someone sent fighters en mass to the enemy it was for strafing air strikes.

Having said that I can see Sugar's point: If this would be changed, it would negate the mass escort advantage vs not-enough-air defense fighters. Because when a bomber unit strikes it will always be escorted by 1 fighter unit against 1 intercepting fighter. So, yeah, I can see his point, it may be frustrating when it happens against me, but I get it.

I totally agree with Private Ben on the "the wholesome of Luftwaffe in North Afrika". DAK was a massive endeavor for the OKH, represented by a national decision in game. In my opinion air units strategically relocating to Africa (Axis AND Allied) should be in the same danger as sea transported land units. Maybe with each operational move of an air unit the unit might be subject to an automatic random hit. Hit's severity would be affected by who controls Malta, Sicily and Crete (so if someone controlled all three he would operate air without danger and the other would take severe damage).

Again, I am expressing my opinion on game mechanics, not any kind of frustration vs a player. I myself used massive German air presence in N. Africa vs PvtBen. Until he through me out of N. Afrika that is :). But even when I was having 5 fighters and 4 bombers there I was feeling this was not something that could happen in real WW2.

So I still have an unanswered question, does morale only affect next of turn readiness? Does it have any combat effect in a given round other than that?
Readiness is solely a multiplier to total combat modifier?

Plus I have one more: when a unit is shattered the winner gains National morale. Does the loser lose national morale too?

I used the carriers (4 upgraded) very aggressively in Egypt and took out Sugars Med Tac (he says I should have taken fighter thats debatable).

For the record, I have found that Carriers have an easier time taking out bombers than they do fighters.
I think it is because no one wants to invest in Naval 2 (nor has the time) and upgrade the CVs to that. Meanwhile
you can upgrade their Advanced Air value.

Thanks for the feedback and we have a few ideas on our end, based on the suggestions here, that will likely help with the recon/intercept and follow up escort situation posted above and ideally without adding any micromanaging. Just sorting it out.

To answer the question on readiness, it is a dynamic calculation that is always recalculated when it is either displayed on screen or for combat and is based on unit strength, supply and morale (supply is a factor for morale).

Essentially, morale changes have an immediate effect on readiness.

For National Morale, yes, gains and losses.
