The German high command, wanting to keep pressure on the Soviet forces, decide to blow the offensive chit to make sure the Luftwaffe keeps up with the frontlines. But than: a setback at Smolensk: a 5 was rolled, resulting in the disorganisation of the German attackers but even worse: the city wasn't taken. And that when the defenders were disorganised...

In the south, groundstrikes were made, however, apart from Kharkov the results were below par. All other hexes attacked left one defender organized. Also, land combats seem to result in the Soviet forces escaping destruction. The Shattered result without losses seems to be the magic outcome of the die rolls...

In Northern China, the Sian MIL is destroyed...

In Southern China, the Chinese cavalry gets massacred...

After the next couple of impulses, Heeresgruppe Nord is stalled, due to the failed attack at Smolensk. Rommel himself races south to take charge of the mess. Meanwhile in Karelia, Finnish forces push forward south...

Heeresgruppe Süd attacks Kharkov. Another bad roll (a 5 on a +16 attack) results in half of the army attacking the city getting disorganised. Again, Soviet losses are avoided. Guderian is forced to reorganise the army to make sure the momentum doesn't get lost for next impulse.

Japanese bomber pilots, returning from another strategic bombardment raid on Chungking, reports the destruction of the last oil tanks. Together with the occupation of the Burma Road by Japanese mountain troops, this means that the Chinese have no fuel left...

After the next couple of impulses, turn ends (30% chance). But not without another Axis defeat. A +9 attack at the Rostov ends in another 5... Hex not taken and a MECH gets lost (because the Soviets choose the Blitzkrieg table). Let's say that the OKW isn't pleased with how events took place this summer...

At the start of the S/O 1941 turn, the Axis win the initiative and rain starts in the Arctic. This is the situation for Heeresgruppe Nord.
