Given the emphasis on carrying out a determined defense in the Pacific, has the "No Unit Withdrawals" switch been set to "ON"? It would not make sense to withdraw ships and units if Germany is not the priority.

An interesting afterthought for this 'unique' setup. However, being as the timeline for this game only extends through August 1942, are there appreciable and meaningful Allied withdrawals before that time? I'm not talking about the 'bitsa' B-18 groups.

Thank you - I haven't thought about that. However, that Germany/Europe did not have priority in practice initially, which they
didn't, is something that eventually should change if the strategic results turn out as hoped for.

Along the same line I should have had more PP's to work with - only 50 a day as is - but that is something I have taken upon myself.

This is most interesting - the update.

January 1942 - the "pinch" - Latest Pearl Harbor 2 - air strikes on Medano and Ternate - no competitive Air Cover - no ability to deter it (??) (!!).

Threats to your SLOC; and the Philippines 'will run out of supply' eventually as they would in real life.

I realize you are testing rationalizing this very question.

(Political) questions I would ask myself ( not sure if you can account for?) :

1) Given the legitimate fear of a home front invasion on the west coast - how many assets would you be prepared to devote to supplying MacArthur ?

MacArthur had occasionally and casually threatened to run for President as a Republican contender to FDR tho perhaps not as often at this stage of the war. Does this influence the decision ?

Further some Hearst Newspaper / Republican allies actually proposed that the Commander in Chief Role be split from the President in favor of 'a general'.

The President roundly rejected these stating "I believe in the Framers of the Constitution" as I recall my history.

2) Given the above and Pre-supposing the Japanese postpone a deep push in the Solomon's ? Coral Sea would have the USN - King and Nimitz - used Carrier TFs to support MacArthur ??

This is really a tough call... hard to say.

My understanding of this game is that the Japanese are constrained in their timeline on "most" fronts, not just the DEI / Philippines thrust. So Rabaul, Northern New Guinea and the Solomons will not be a threat to the Allies LOS/SLOC until their historical dates. Nimitz, et. al. need not concern themselves with them at this juncture in the war.

Not really. My Japanese opponent is supposed to follow the original timeline, and plans, untill such time as he has problems
with executing them. That time has come now. He has realised that his ground forces originally allocated for the capture,
and drive through the Moluccans, are inferior due to allied reinforcements. He is now FREE to act in whatever way he finds
suitable. That goes for ALL Theatres.

So I'll change my use of the verb to the past tense:

DEI / Philippines thrust. So Rabaul, Northern New Guinea and the Solomons have not been a threat to the Allies LOS/SLOC until now. Nimitz, et. al. need not have concerned themselves with them to this juncture in the war.

It isn't as much a question of how many assets I would supply MacArthur as of how many are available. Some are ready to be
shipped, some must be paid for by the few PP's, most are tied down in the US.

The Japanese would be very welcome to the US. That, at least, would be a big mistake on their part. Hawaii, too.

These questions I find irrelevant. I'm sure he would have made a terrific President..[;)]

We shall see. What is more important - what shall the Japanese do if they are not able to put down MacArthur and/or push
through the Moluccans? They started the war to get at the mineral resources in SouthEast Asia and the Pacific. If Luzon is
intact the South China Sea is not safe for their transports.

Now that the key Japanese player restriction has ended, is there any chance we'll start seeing things like situational screenshots from the game or are the enthusiastic war correspondents and the hard-working editorial staff from the Brisbane Evening Star to continue as the only public source on the action?
This was the only sig line I could think of.

Tks for asking, Buck. It was my intention NOT not to use the AAR the way we often see, with long lists of reports and details
from various small and big skirmishes but rather give a picture of the general development of the war as such. Also incidentally
to sneak in the (political and military) background for the concept of the project. As you know the media can also be used for
desinformatsia and maskirovka..[;)]..The reader who can read a little between the lines shall benefit from this.

I had hoped that my opponent would do something similar from his side but he informed me from the start that he didn't have
time for that and I am only happy that he has at all taken the trouble to participate in the project. So far, he has been
very loyal to our original agreement on the way the progress should be handled but now he is "on its own" and the way he
proceeds shall of course mean a lot to how the end result is perceived. He is also a much more experienced player than me
which should, to some extent, mirror the difference of the two opponents. Hopefully, the larger resources of the US side
shall compensate for this in time.

That said, I suppose there shall be more details as the reporters and news desk get the hang of it. But, as yu know,
reporters shall always be reporters.

Nice work on Ryujo and Nagato! [&o]
In my games Nagato always sinks after three torp hits, even aerial torps - maybe crew experience is not very good or something. Are you still playing a human opponent?

Thank you - yes, human opponent - he is doing nicely, much more experienced than me and trying to do what the Japanese was
supposed to do - get their stuff and go home. Great restraint even if he now is free to do what he wants.

She may or may not sink. Perhaps the claim is a little exaggerated, too.
Who knows.

If the Japanese would have invaded the west coast, everybody with a deer rifle would have gone hunting. Open season and no limit . . .
