RE: Wrong class

Post by lancer »

Hi Templer,

Gen. Maj. Hube is the commander of 16th Pz Div who is making the report to Rundstedt and who has submitted the name of an unspecified UnterOfficer for the Knights Cross.

It could perhaps be a little clearer.

Cheers,
Cameron

Von = von - always

Post by Templer_12 »

"von", if part of the name as nobiliary particle, is always lowercase, also at the beginning of the sentence.
Hope you noticed post 38 and 39?

Hi Templer,

Yep, got the previous posts but there is a lot of text to check.

My German is slowly improving.

Hi Templer,

Looks like that was missed during the big name overhaul.

Thanks.

Capt., Von, Sixth

Post by Templer_12 »

V. 1.05.5

Capt., Von, Sixth

Capt.?
Do you mean the military rank of Captian?
Then the German rank would be Hauptmann, abbreviated Haupt.
So Hauptmann von Bear
or Haupt. von Bear

Sixth Army?
Do you mean 6th Army, or 6. Armee?
Usually for listing we found numbers in the game.

Hi Templer,

You're doubtless correct with your German but the offender is the translator of Franz Halder's Diary.

I've copied it word for word and didn't think it appropriate to put my 'editorial slant' on what is an historical document.

You'd probably have to dig up a copy of the original German diary to see how it was written. It should be public domain and you could easily find the relevant diary entry by date.

I'd be interested to know myself. I suspect with the use of 'Captain' and 'Army' that an American has done the translation.

I got them for the period in question... After all, I go a reputation for being one of the best online researchers ;)

Yep, that's what I used. It is an American translation. Very interesting read.

1st, let me say your Video Tutorial about the editor|TO&E for DC Barbarossa was one of the best I've ever encountered (bumped into it by accident!). I have to dig my heels into the editor for a little
project (thanks Davide for the Kiev map!). Are there more tutorials available by any chance?

As for the Halder diaries, I found the complete volumes in German, too.

Hi Cameron,

what is the likelihood that in 1941, the conservative German WW2 officer in a senior position, Gen.Oberst Halder wrote down Captain in his private diary instead of Hauptmann?

Well, all right, sloppy work of the translator, but in DCB: Barbarossa it should be corrected.
The translation of the diary is a historical document?
The diary in the original even more!

Hi Klink,

Thanks. Nope, that's the only tutorial I made.

Hi Templer,

You can't mess with history, even translations. It's a slippery slope. Before you know it you are rewriting events and telling the world that the Germans drank Tequilas.

So we don't find a common denominator, and don't stand d'accord here...
And by the way, Germans drink Tequila.

Walther, Agp, verrückte Saukerl

While there is also a Walter in German, this Walther here comes with an "h".
So Walther, and in this case Walther von Brauchitsch

dummkopf = Dummkopf/Dummköpfe

Post by Templer_12 »

All German nouns are capitalized.
So dummkopf = Dummkopf.
In the present case it's plural, so it's Dummköpfe.

Kamerad,

the easiest way to spell- & grammar-check the various texts is easier with the .CSV. All tables can be exported to .CSV and can be read and, if applicable, adjusted.
