A very impressive defence!

I attacked again in the next round and had even less success. Wow

Artillery facing tanks and Infantry is not a good thing, unless they are the other side's guns.

The Americans are starting to respond with more units. Things are getting more interesting...

I'm having difficulties with river crossing - both my engineer units and bridging units are not as useful as I thought...

This is a very interesting area on the battlefield at the moment. The Americans have elements of the 7th Armd, 30th Inf, 99th Inf and 106th Inf along with some Corps and Army elements on the South side of the river that cuts through Malmedy.

What I would like to do is cut off and destroy all the American units in the pocket. Getting Malmedy would be great, but it is not as important as destroying all those units. I really want the Mech Inf Regt NW of Wereth.

To achieve this goal, the 116 Pz, supported by 277 VGD, is going to push through Ligneuville towards Malmedy, trying to cut off the escape route. This will not happen this morning, but I can start the process.

130 Pz Lehr will follow 116 Pz to assist with the destruction.

Hi Mike - Those bridges in Badlands Terrain have to be repaired before heavy equipment and supplies can cross. I know you already saw it, but worth mentioning again for anyone else who hadn't, from the River Assault Thread:

By December 1944 the German Army was experiencing shortages of all types of equipment, including heavy bridging materials. In the Ardennes, the Germans had a limited ability to provide crossings for heavy equipment, artillery, assault guns and tanks, especially the 60 ton Tigers. In Autumn Fog, only units with an asterisk in their unit name can repair bridges in order to provide 'heavy' crossing points.

Steve,

Thanks for the note. I had seen it and talked about it in this thread. However, I forgot it. Oh well, staff and subordinates do not always tell the commander the full truth. I'm really enjoying this scenario. Thanks so much for the time and effort you put in to make it so interesting!

All the best,
Mike

However, I forgot it.
I know, it's one of the dangers of designing things that are specific and complicated. I used to think that I should keep things simple and easy, but after a while I realized that back in the day before computers, we used to have to read large rules manuals for games and keep track of everything ourselves, and didn't complain! So now my theory is to make things specific and complicated if the scenario needs them to be, because part of the fun of playing and replaying is learning stuff like we used to with board games.

Steve,

Very good point! I remember playing Advanced Squad Leader and arguing with my opponent about the rules. Then discovering I had read them wrong...

You have done a great job with this scenario.

I also finally destroyed the supply dump in Butgenbach. However the Inf Bn outside of Butgenbach continues to hold off my Pz div.
