With command of the air in ground commanders hands now air losses increase dramatically - mostly during the Soviet turn.

Air needs to be placed cleverly. We have airbases packed full of short-range fighters sitting in the middle of nowhere 20 hexes behind the front... If no one wants them, please send them south instead of wasting them there where they will do nothing.

I have spotted several unescorted supply runs by German Ju-52s to their spearhead. Those should get badly punished, but at present they are unharmed, leading to more MPs for their tanks, and hence higher losses for us.

When I was first encouraged by the others to get out all of the old screenshots and put them up in an AAR for this long running game my thoughts were to do as little as possible beyond that and only do enough to get the story updated for the joiners just before the good weather of the 1942 campaign. I also thought it might be good to try this in a new venue. I should have known though I would have been drawn to do more work on this than I intended! [;)]

I am not putting the sort of time into making an AAR with narratives and descriptions that I have done in the past. Indeed I recommend the current AARs being posted by EwaldvonKleist and Xhoel to see something of quality now. This was only meant to be a record and summary and I thought the best way to do that was let the pictures do the talking.

One interesting by-product has come about from this though. I have been in contact with a few communities of players which either do not speak English or do not normally speak English well. They mentioned that they would not find other AARs here worth following because they do not understand the words. Whereas here they can follow the action in our common language of in-game screenshots. So may be there is a place in future for AARs which are mostly or wholly screenshot based which can be the "International" AARs? Just a thought.

What is STAVKA doing in the south? What is he trying to defend? Rostov and the Donbass should be the places to defend, not the Kahrkov area, there is nothing there now, and they have gotten themselves in dire straits. I bet the Panzerkorps making the BU is going to cut lots of units next turn around Poltava unless they start retreating now.

They lost 375 aircraft in their turn? How?
24 good recon losses - they might run out even without any help from us - they reconned as far as Odessa in the south?

flak certainly did a good job...we did concentrate a lot in the few places I guessed they would go

U2VS airgroup spotted! They are using modern fighters, fast medium bombers and Il-4s mostly.
Modus operandi is to bomb all the panzers, plus bomb infantry near Leningrad.

30 units appeared from nowhere ... railed in...and smothered the Pz XX...ZOC HQ's so not supplied more than 7 fuel to 5 of your armoured...Two have over 40 fuel though
air supplied the Ilmen pocket - but only got an NKVD to beachead status

This turn the team protocol was changed to allow any commander to do an air recon go first and before any other. This would mean even if the Supreme Commander was asleep, the others could still do the recon and make their plans during that time.

I need Leningrad Finns and the infantry so .. I attacked this turn to get Leningrad likely 2 turns earlier. I will clear Pushkin and Kolpino this turn so I have the MP's to cross and get Leningrad North next turn. It will mean stuff routing out of the pocket.

The freak mud weather has halted the advance along the Azov coast this turn meaning instead 1st Panzer Group has moved north to take the opportunities there; meaning the axis of advance will be fundamtally different in future turns. This single event will have repercussions far into the future of this war.

Either they will have to use some of their airgroups to defend their industry in the rear - or they will lose a lot of production over time.

A good way for the Soviets to build experience and morale for fighter squadrons is to have them shoot down unescorted German bombers.

Except .. we used recon and fighter sweeps to determine that no fighters could/would react .. although there were turns in the Center that sacrificed many JU87's ... but in general at least most of the Germans used a methodical approach to air power ..
