OT: Which planes to include for CAS from Cold War

Post by oaltinyay »

Happy new year to everyone

I have finished a wargame of my design sometime ago ( not my day job more like amataeour hour, basically an amalgation of some ideas I had over the years ) a boardgame - about tactical level combat in Cold war. It is a hex and counter game. It is not WITP:AE and far from it :( - but maybe one day.

My road plan is to introduce rules and combat resolution models for specific situations like AAW and CAS but in time...Some ppl outside my family play on their own will :) it so I have some customer support as well.

Short term plan is to introduce some Fixed Wing Units that can have a ground attack role for early war ( until '60). I already considered the following ones ( sample for WP attached ) but let me know if I need to include or exclude some units ?

F-11,F9F8,F9,FH2 BANSHEE,F86,F84,SEA VENOM,MYSTERE IV,F7F
MIG 15 / MIG 17 / MIG19 , CHINESE J5 ,J7 and H5,SU-7 STRIKE FIGHTER ,YAK-9P AND IL-10 IL-28P

All input will be appreciated.

ps. I am also searching for some text on how to model Close Air Support in wargaming so any help is appreciated there also. I got Perla's book and some other similar titles but it is just one table for all.

Looking at late 50's to early 60's
Most fighter aircraft of this time could be fitted with bombs or rockets and as they were overtaken by better models often were retasked with a ground attack mission.
There were also a lot of ex WW2 fighters and light bombers remaining in service in Sth America, Africa & Asia performing this role.
Looking through my big book of aircraft I can add the following to the list.
Hawker Hunter, Blackburn Buccaneer, Fiat G91, Gloster Meteor, Dassault Etendard IV, Ouragan, Mystere & SuperMystere, DeHavilland Vampire, Sea Vixen,Venom, Douglas A3 Skywarrior, A4 Skyhawk,A1 Skyraider, EE Canberra, Grumman F9F Cougar,Hawker SeaHawk, Martin B57, McDonnell F3H Demon, NA F100 Super Sabre, Supermarine Scimitar & Swift,
Interdum feror cupidine partium magnarum Europae vincendarum
