Weather simulation in 2D wargame

Post by ncc1701e »

Sometimes I miss an overlay to indicate the weather of a particular area on a 2D map. I had an idea few months ago to represent overcast weather in a 2D wargame (TOAW IV here as an example).

Killing time since I cannot go out and, playing with tutorial on shaders, I am finally finding this is a little too much.

Do you agree?

It depicts well, but makes the map harder to see, but then, isn't that the point :)
Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

Thanks. Indeed, the ground should not even be visible when the weather is overcast. When it is animated, it is a little more readable but barely:

In any case, it is funny to discover the techniques to make a game.

It also can help with immersion, if you say a hex is muddy but it looks no different than any others it can be easy to forget. but if you do what WITE does you can show the changing weather easily.
