Remind me of when my Labrador RB and Labrador Cleo I was watching for the week busted out of the house when China Garden Delivery guy arrived with my food. Rats. Grabbed food. Then grabbed leash and collar. Found Cleo a down at the park near the house. Hmmm. No RB. He always is within 20' of Cleo. I around and He was RB had shot into the public pool past the staff and went swimming. I went in to get him. Not a word said they just pointed. They knew who I was after. All the kids were having a blast with him. Instant neighborhood legend. Still talked about to this day.
My lady had a Jack Russel terrier that was always adventurous. He could get over the 4' back yard fence by running at a tree nearby and ricochet off it to land in the back lane. One time he crossed one of the busiest roads in the city to get to a motel and try out their pool.
Another time he got out in time for the Sunday Buffet at a nearby hotel and invited himself into the dining room.
Then there was the time he got out and a few hours later jumped into a police car when the cop happened to open the door to get out. Guess he wanted a ride-along.
At the lake he loved to dive for rocks that were heavier than he was and drag them ashore (the breed was made to pull badgers out of their holes). One time he must have dived in deeper water and swam around but he just disappeared. We couldn't find him anywhere until I happened to see movement through the narrow crack between boards at the end of the dock. I dove down and pulled him down and up to get clear of the dock.
Being a terrier he wouldn't quit either. He saw some ducks in the bay and dove in to chase them he got pretty close before they paddled off toward the open water of the Lake of the Woods (a huge lake). Calling to him did no good, he was gonna get those ducks. I finally had to borrow a jet-ski to go out and bring him back to shore.
There are numerous other stories but those are the ones that first come to mind.
