well moving those city flak units is a great way to use up your admin pts:

How exactly do you do that?

When I have -for example- the 22nd Flak regiment open, I can change the HQ to OKH (doesn't even cost APS). So far, so good.

But how do I then get it to a corps HQ?
It won't show up on the list of support units that I can pull (when selecting on the Corps HQ).
It does show up on the list of SUs of OKH, but there is no way to remove the (c) in front of the name that I can see.

I think you have to wait a turn after you get it to OKH.

I have not actually attempted to do this. But have considered it. As far as I know, it should be possible.

I don't know why you were able to pull the 22nd Flak from a city without incurring AP costs.

I did do that once myself, but that was just to free it up and use it in another TB. (really good for "Air Day" garrison requirements)

Stamb,

Sorry. Did not intend to hijack your thread. Please forgive me.

I may be a bit unique in how I use the rocket artillery, but might as well answer to the thread's intended topic.

I pull all of the rocket and mortar arty and distribute them equally across my motorized infantry corps.

Historically, they were very mobile and able to keep up with the motorized forces. So, I tend to use them in that manner.

My motorized corps end up containing 3-4 regular arty & 2-3 rocket/mortar arty. They may not all get used in one attack, but you should be attacking enough with each motorized corps to fully use all the assigned arty by end of the turn.

Hah. No need to sorry, i am always open to suggestions/corrections/discussions :)

I had the same idea, but as far as motorized HQ does not require motorized SU i use a mix of regular arty & rockets. Typically i have 2-3 art SU in a HQ and few more in case of a motorized. SU also require supplies and i don't want to overwhelm extended logistic traces. Not sure about my approach, i will check SU unit consumption as it might be relatively low to bother with it.

I just like my Motorized Infantry HQ to have a well-balance set of arty support to call on.

So yeah, there is no real requirement to assign them to mot HQs. I do it for historical accuracy.

I don't think it is too much of a logistics drain as long as you keep the number of SUs reasonable.

Now, during the muds, I start pulling a bunch of SUs back to OKH to help lighten their logistics load, so to speak.

Plus, you don't want them out there starving anyways. They will start taking hits to their morale (which I hate and try to avoid whenever possible).

Surprisingly, your construction engineers end up being major supply consumers. Definitely get those guys out of there if you can. (last I check, they were consuming 2x - 3x as much as the rest of the SUs)

Artillery SU's are the most supply efficient units in the game. They barely consume supply, and they pack a serious punch. They do consume a fair bit of ammo though.

It is not pulled from the city, it is still assigned to a city, it is just the HQ that changed from OKL to OKH.

And, yes, I can assign it to a corps HQ the next day. But it still says (c) to it's name and "Attached to Munich". I do not see a way to remove that (c) and take it away from the city.

I believe to remember you do that from the City hex, and not the HQ!

I know I sound like an idiot, but exactly how do I do that?

Take the 22nd Flak in Berlin, for example.

On turn 1, I changed its HHQ to 2nd Panzer Group. That works fine.

But on turn 2, it is still in Berlin.

- If I look at 2nd Panzer Group, I see it with a (c) in front of it's name.
- If go to the city-screen of Berlin, I see as UNIT ATTACHED still the 22nf Flak Regiment. There is nothing to un-assign it on the city-screen.
- And when I click on the unit itself, it shows a panel with to the left "HHQ: 2nd Panzer Group" and "City: Berlin". But I don't want it in Berlin, I want it at the front.

So, how do un-attach it from the city and put in to good use on the front?

Be aware, like Loki pointed out earlier, it does cost a good chunk of AP to detach from a city.

1. Go to city (Memel) in this case.

2. Check to see if you have a Flak SU assigned.

3. Click the [x] next to Flak (in this case it would be the 217th Marine Flak Battalion)

4. When you hover over the [x] you should see tooltip ("Return the unit to the reserve.")

5. After you click the [x], it removed the unit and deduct the required APs.

6. Check OKH and see if you find the "217th Marine Flak Battalion"

7. It should be immediately available to directly attach to a German formation at this point.

NOTE - so far, I have only been able to do this for Flak "Battalions" and Flak "Marine Regiments" (Kiel), but not other Flak Regiments assigned to cities. Interesting...

EDIT - Germany gets some Flak Regiments as reinforcements that are not attached to any city. I would recommend using these as you would not have to pay any AP for them.

This is from AR on turn 4.

You should have I Flak Regiment ready (which you will need to xfer to the map 1st) and another one forming.

After it is xferred to the map, it should show up in OKH.

Thank you for explaining. It seems we both have the same problem: I can do it with the Flaks that have an [x] in front of them, but for example not for the 22nd Flak in Berlin.

I wonder if this WAD.

No idea if it is a bug or not.

This is something that most people do not attempt very often (due to the AP costs involved).
