Sub Warfare:
IJN SS RO-61 is spotted by allied ASW ships and attacked. She escaped but is heavily damaged. She has been ordered back to Truk for repairs.
Nothing else happened this turn other than the standard bombing of the airfield at Rabaul.

Burma:
Sallies bombed a British unit moving south from Akyab discovering it is the 16th British Brigade.
South Pacific:
3 allied DDs patrol near Woodlark island - I believe looking for subs - when my Vals found them. Nineteen Vals launched, but only 1 landed a bomb on the target - DD Hammann - but reports indicate a Massive Explosion on the DD so maybe we got an ammo explosion. The ship might be gone or at least out of action for a month or so.
Allied heavy bombers hit the fields at Rabaul again today keeping them suppressed.

Re: More Variants - The End of Western Imperialism - No Nomad please
Bloody hell. It's been a gloomy ride for the Imperial Japanese. Whilst I get the appeal of playing with all the fancy toys a lot earlier, the complete removal of Allied Withdrawals does seemed to have tipped the scales considerably.
The Tooltip does say "Use to make for a tougher AI opponent."
Thanks for the write up. If you're still looking for names then may I put forward 'Saheita Kuranaga'; a character from the film Thirteen Assassins.
Best of luck! I fear you'll need it!

Re: More Variants - The End of Western Imperialism - No Nomad please
Yeah I will definitely need it - Nomad is a tough opponent. The Saheita Kuranaga DD has been named and will arrive in Tokyo bay on Dec 1st, 1942.Nomadicjam wrote: Mon Aug 08, 2022 11:21 am Bloody hell. It's been a gloomy ride for the Imperial Japanese. South Pacific:
Allied Medium Bombers appeared over Rabaul with a 9 minute warning to once more bomb my airfields. But this time fighters were waiting for them. Nomad has not been sweeping nor escorting his bombers over Rabaul so I moved 100 fighters to Kavieng and put them all on 100% LRCAP over Rabaul to catch his bombers.... and I did !!
My fighters tore into unescorted medium bombers the most and into the heavies a little bit. They didn't stop them from hitting the port and airfield but we got some kills. Quite a few to be honest. I had enough fighters to have at least 1 or 2 up for every allied bomber wave that came in on Rabaul this turn. I expect heavy sweeps over Rabaul and maybe Kavieng next turn in retribution.
Intel report from the Rabaul Cap Trap:
26 B-25Bs shot down in A2A, 1 to flak and 2 op losses
14 B-25Cs shot down in A2A and 2 to flak
4 B-24Ds shot down in A2A and 4 op losses
2 B-17Es shot down in A2A and 1 op losses
In exchange for
3 Zeros shot down in A2A and 6 op losses
4 Tojo IIcs shot down in A2A and 5 op losses
3 Tojo IIas lost to ops
Overall I lost 21 fighters (3 pilots killed) for 46 enemy bombers shot down. Definitely a win for the Japanese today.

South Pacific:
Well I was correct about Nomad's retaliation - but wrong about the method. He swept Rabaul with several squadrons of Corsairs, and sent three Bombardment TFs into the area. One hit Rabaul, and two hit Kavieng wrecking the place. The lighter one was used against Rabaul, but the other two had BBs in them. They caught a total of 7 damaged planes on the ground and destroyed them.
The allied CVs are now back and stationed off Rabaul, 2 hexes to the south. I am recalling all my PBs from south of Rabaul where they have been evacing troops and will try to get them into Rabaul to move troops out of there - thought I had more time - maybe I do... maybe I don't.

Sub Warfare:
Allied ASW finds and damaged RO-67 near Woodlark Island forcing her to return to Truk for repairs.
South Pacific:
Allied bombardment TFs show up at Milne Bay and Kavieng during the night. Damage is not great at either. Then as the sun rises, five squadrons of Corsairs sweep Kavieng finding no one home to shoot down.
The allied CVs are now 2 hexes east of Kavieng and a large force of Avengers and SBDs bombed the airfield at Kavieng inflicting really minor damage for so many bombers. The damage at Kaving isn't overwhelming and I was able to fly two Tojo fighters back to Truk today.
In R&D news; in ten days my engineers assure the High Command that the new A6M5c Zero will begin rolling off the assembly lines in Japan. This promises to be a large improvement over the current model - though we do trade range for more speed and armor. The initial production will be 5 Zeroes a day.

South Pacific:
Allied bombardment TFs visits Milne Bay killing both of the damaged Vals there and hammering the troops pretty good despite the level 6 forts.
An enemy combat TF cruising north of Rabaul looking for my PBs is caught in the open by some Vals. Unfortunately only 1 managed to land a bomb, but it hit Ca Astoria destroying one of her 8" gun mounts. One Val was destroyed by flak.
I believe he will bombard Manus Island next turn with this TF and will probably catch some damaged patrol planes on the ground - I moved all the undamaged ones back to Truk leaving behind 10 or so -- they take forever to repair. The Vals are still in the area, bouncing from airfield to airfield. Hoping to get another hit or two on some allied ships tomorrow.
With the South Pacific sort of done for now - I am simply evacing as many troops as possible before they are all cut off - I am switching my focus to the SRA and the line from Dili to Saumlaki to Dobo where I am building up the bases. Dili is turning into a good base, lvl 7 AF and halfway to lvl 6 forts. The port was expanded to level 2. Saumlaki has a lvl 1 port, lvl 1 AF (halfway to lvl 2) and level 4 forts. Dobo is the same as Saumlaki. I built the forts up to lvl 4 before anything else to try to trick him into thinking I am just getting to working on the bases now. Once the AFs are level 2, I will switch back to forts. I want lvl 6 forts (at least) before he invades. Expanding the AFs serve two purposes - 1 allows me to base Fighters and DBs there for offensive actions... and 2 - increases the amount of supplies the bases can hold without spoilage.
After the front line of Dili, Saumlaki and Dobo, I am building up Ambon, Kendari and Makassar. Sorong is decently sized, and Babeldaob just reached lvl 9 forts -- that base is maxed out.

Burma:
I sent some Oscars on a high level sweep of Cox's Bazar - and the weather finally permitted my planes at Rangoon to fly - and they swept a group of Hurricanes. We lost three total planes and reports say they lost six. Good deal in planes, but we lost all three pilots - well two killed and 1 MIA.
My Sallies and Helens then bombed the 16th British Brigade as they have stopped moving south along the trail on the west coast north of Ramree and are now heading back north.
Nothing else happened this turn. The South Pacific was quiet. I am still putting a hold on evac operations for at least another day to ensure the seas are clear before turn it back on full speed. An Emily was repaired at Rabaul and flew off to safety at Truk.

Sub Warfare:
IJN I-3 is spotted and attacked by allied forces near Green Island. The sub escapes without major damage, but 7 flt is sufficient to send him home to Truk for quick repairs. I am currently not building any subs so every sub is a precious commodity.
Burma:
My IJA bombers hit the 16th British Brigade inflicting another 70+ casualties as it slowly marches north.
South Pacific:
I moved my Vals to Namatanai and forgot to adjust their max range and they flew after some allied ships at Torokina and ran straight into 80 or so fighters on cap. Needless to say the unit was wiped out. The survivors will return to Truk for some rest and re-education while the unit rebuilds.

My attempt to night bomb the Airfield at Chittagong fails - my pilots cannot land a hit.
South Pacific:
A single PB heading for Rabaul harbor runs into an allied combat TF and is sunk. The same TF then moves to Talasea and sinks two more PBs just arriving there. The enemy TF is the CA Astoria leading 5 DDs.
Not sure if this enemy TF is just lurking or what but it is north of Rabaul. Nomad is getting aggressive. We will see what we can do about that.

An USN sub dared to enter Rabaul and attack an IJN PB. The torpedoes misses and the PB dropped a bunch of depth charges damaging the sub.
During the day SS I-2, returning to Truk to refuel and rearm, comes across a lone xAKL near the Isle of Pines and attacks. The sub surfaces and puts 5 shells into the xAKL leaving her burning on the surface. I heard sinking noises a bit later.
Burma:
IJA Bombers hit the airfield and port at Akyab inflicting very minor damage.
Nothing else happened during the turn.
