RAF bombers attack my isolated troops in the jungle near Katha but today a dozen Franks are waiting for them !! Over the course of multiple raids we shoot down 28 Wellington Ics with another one lost to Ops for no losses on our side !!

RAF bombers attack troops at Taung Gyi inflicting negligible losses.

No other action happened - kind of a slow turn.

RAF Hurricanes swept the skies where I cap-trapped his Wellingtons last turn, but my fighters were already elsewhere.

A light fighter sweep over Taung Gyi followed by 140+ bombers hitting troops but inflicting minimal damage.

South Pacific:
USAAF heavy bombers are back over Truk hitting the airfield keeping it suppressed. Flak there claimed 2 heavy bombers shot down today.

Sub Warfare:
I-170 arrives at Hollandia to leave behind a few early christmas presents for the allies and locates LCT-63 but cannot get a firing solution :( I want to kill as many of his assault ships as possible. Eventually he will have endless numbers but not currently.

Burma:
So the last two turns the RAF has been showing up at Taung Gyi with unescorted bombers only, so I put some Franks there. And of course he sweeps :( In a pair of aerial battles my Frank engage P-47s with what I think is decent results. Just have to remember that sweeping fighters have a built in advantage over normal CAP... In the two battle I lost a total of 31 Franks in A2A to shooting down 19 Thunderbolts. Another 5 Franks were lost to Ops and 7 Thunderbolts. I just hope he loses all the pilots as I know half of my Frank pilots were lowly trained - 70ish air skill, but only in the 50s in experience - I was expecting bombers not fighters.

After the pair of sweeps the bombers showed up and faced a much diminished CAP. They claimed over 2 A2A kills :(

The British force at Taung Gyi bombarded to see what was there. He is the OOB for Taung Gyo currently. My troops have level 6 forts and are in the jungle so an 8 defense. I am trying to build more forts, but doubt I will be able to. It looks like he has more units on the way with at least one more chinese corps leading them.

Assaulting units:
254th Armoured Brigade
14th Indian Division
50th Tank Brigade
XV Corps Engineer Battalion
11th Indian Division
8th Chinese Corps
11th (East African) Division
267th Armoured Brigade
255th Armoured Brigade
XXXIII Corps Engineer Battalion
I Aus Corps Engineer Battalion
5th Chinese Corps
2/13th Field Regiment
29th Indian Mountain Gun Regiment
2/11th Field Regiment
20th Indian Heavy AA Regiment
2/9th Field Regiment
4th Heavy Mortar Regiment

Defending units:
22nd Division
43rd Division
21st Ind.Mixed Brigade
47th Division
6th RTA Division
35th JAAF AF Bn

South Pacific:
PV-1 Venturas bomb Truk Naval Fortress again. They inflict no losses but lose 2 of their number to flak and another dozen or so damaged.

Heavy bombers from the Rabaul area pay visit to the Truk airfield keeping it suppressed.

Burma:
Night air attack on Rangoon airfield catches fighters on the ground, destroying a few but damaging a bunch.
RAF fighters sweep Rangoon during the day, running into some Zeros and Tojos on CAP. My fighters get mauled by the high flying Corsairs.

Enemy daytime sweeps over Taung Gyi finds no one there.

More night time bombing raids on Rangoon airfield finds no aircraft there, but they score hits on the airfield.

Daylight sweeps over Taung Gyi and Rangoon find no IJA planes in the air at either location.

A Chinese Corps is moving out in the open north of Pakhoi so some IJA bombers pay a visit inflicting 400 losses on the unit.

Burma:
RAF fighters sweep Taung Gyi again in large numbers, followed by bombers targeting IJA troops. Damage is minimal but some moral loss and disruption happens, and then the British stack attacks. P-38s sweep the skies over Dobo, fighting some Tojos on cap training missions. The combat didn't look too bad from turn execution, but my IJA pilots received a good mauling.

RAF Fighter sweeps over Taung Gyi and my isolated troops near Katha.
RAF Bombers hit the airfield a little but mostly troops at Taung Gyi. Not many losses, but its preventing my men from recovering morale, fatigue and disruption.

SRA:
USAAF fighters sweep Dobo again finding no one home.

USAAF B-25s come in low and strafe the airfield at Dobo doing a little damage, but according to the intel screen 12 B-25s were lost this past turn.

Welcome to October 1943...

Burma:
RAF fighters sweep Taung Gyi finding no one home in preparation for the large numbers of bombers hitting the troops and the airfield there. The airfield is still in great shape should I decide to move fighters there.

SRA:
Enemy ships are detected at Biak and Nells from Ambon respond. Some F4U-1 Corsairs attempt cap intercept but are unable to, so my Nells go in unmolested and score three torpedo hits on 2 DDs, sinking them both !!! Apparently these DDs were carrying some troops - from the losses they seem to be all engineers and non-combat -- so possibly a small CV group ?

Burma:
Once again fighter sweeps over Taung Gyi followed by bombers hitting the troops and the airfield a bit.

The British stack attacked at Taung Gyi again lowering the forts to level 4. Losses on both side were about the same as last time - 1800 for IJA and 4200 for Allies. At this rate I have about 10-14 days before Taung Gyi falls.

SRA:
B-24s bomb the airfield at Dobo again today but inflict no real damage.

Enemy AMcs begin clearing the mines at Horn Island.

Burma:
Heavy sweeps over Taung Gyi followed by what seems like every bomber in Burma and India.
Some Helens were escorted to Taung Gyi to bomb the British horde but enemy cap made the bombing run fail.

SRA:
More Liberators bomb Dobo. They are flying high (27k) and not doing much damage. Must be simply training them and not actually trying to suppress the airfield there.

More fighter sweeps and bombings at Taung Gyi. These constant air attacks are keeping me from building new forts and slowly deteriorating my troops morale and fatigue.

SRA:
USAAF B-24s came to bomb the airfield at Dobo again and were met by 25 Franks !! Not as many kills as I hoped - only two B-24s were reported shot down in exchange for 1 Frank. Not a good trade.

More fighter sweeps and bombings at Taung Gyi.

SRA:
Corsairs swept the skies over Dobo finding my Franks long gone.

I-123 returning from a mine laying mission encounters LCT-66 at Biak. Low on torpedoes - from carrying mines - I-123 surfaces and engages the LCT with its deck gun, hitting it 5 times, including a massive explosion - must have been carrying supplies. As I-123 submerged and sailed away with no damage I heard sinking noises... One less LCT for Nomad to play with.

Sub Warfare:
SS Bluefish launched 2 torpedoes at E Tsushima but missed. The Escort turned the tables and pummeled the enemy sub with approximately 15 hits, including two direct hits forcing it to surface. At that time all 4 E-class ships opened fire, raking the enemy sub with 25mm and 12cm gunfire until she slipped back beneath the waves !!

SS Tinosa launched 2 torpedoes at xAK Brasil Maru hitting with one. The xAK is floudnering with 70 flt damage and will not make port. UNfortunately I am unable to scuttle the ship for unknown reasons.

SS Tullibee launched 2 torpedoes at xAK Ryunan Maru hitting with both, breaking the ship apart.

Mine Warfare:
LCT-67 runs into a mine at Sarmi and later sinks.

Burma:
Another day of high flying sweeps and heavy bombings at Taung Gyi. It looks like Nomad is waiting for more troops to join the fun at Taung Gyi as at least some of the troops NE of Toungoo are heading back north.

Mine Warfare:
Allied AMs clear some mines at Sarmi.
SS Muskallunge hits a mine at Woleai. I heard ship sinking noises so not sure if the sub sank, or some other allied ship.

Sub Warfare:
SS Aspro launched 2 torpedoes at xAK Yamakisan Maru, hitting with one sinking the xAK.

Burma:
My Helens struck allied troops at Prome, inflicting decent losses when you consider how few bombs Helens carry.

Another day of high flying sweeps and heavy bombings at Taung Gyi. I was correct on the British reinforcing the Taung Gyi assault force as they attack this turn, lowering the forts to 3. I inflicted some heavy losses on the attackers, but the end is within sight. I am thinking of retreating all but one unit from Taung Gyi so they don't get all mangled if forced to retreat. The Brigade will leave the hex this turn - has been leaving for a bit now. I am seriously thinking of pulling all IJA troops out, leaving the RTA unit behind to hold the base - something I need to decide in a day or so or there won't be any time for them to escape.

Mine Warfare:
LCT-59 hits a mine in the shallow waters east of Biak and sinks. You never know where mines can be !!

Burma:
My night strike at the Ramree Airfield is a failure. Half my Helens get lost and the ones that do make it can't hit anything - not even sure if they hit the ground with their bombs. I was hoping for some disruption of the fighters there as my CVs moved into range to strike at the shipping there.

My CVs moved within range of Ramree and Akyab and launched strikes at shipping at both locations but ran into heavy fighters. In multiple strikes during Morning and one in the afternoon we sink 3 xAKs with torpedoes and hit another LSI(L) with one. Over 100 IJN aircraft are lost in the attacks which did not do much damage. Overall a failed mission.

With my CVs spotted last turn there was no action at Taung Gyi this turn, giving my troops there a chance to rest a bit.

SRA:
Fighters sweep and escort in some B-24s on their strike against the airfield at Dobo.

Burma:
During the night my CV TF breaks off and flees westward, while the large BB TF heads to shore at Ramree for some bombardment action. The TF runs into an enemy TF of eight MTBs and after a few rounds of shots, we sink 2 of them and continue on.

The BB TF moved to shore and opened fire on the unsuspecting airfield at Ramree. Nomad must not have realized I had two TFs off the coast as his planes were lined up in nice rows for me to kill. Other than the 200 casualties we inflicted, we put the airfield at 80% damage on the runways and destroyed 171 aircraft on the ground according to the intel screen !!! We didn't kill that many, but we did score 172 points this turn and most, if not all, were from the bombardment.

According to our intel we bagged the following aircraft on the ground at Ramree: 49 P-47D25 Thunderbolts, 39 P-47D2 Thunderbolts, 26 P-38H Lightnings, 19 B-25G Mitchells, 17 P-38E Lightnings, 13 Avenger Is, and 8 PBY-4 Catalins. Even if we only bagged half, a great night for the IJN.

Heading south after the bombardment the BB TF ran into the MTB TF again, this time killing 3 more of them.

My night time raid on Ramree was centered around the port this time but as normal my Helens can hit crap at night. The didn't get a single port, let alone ship hit. At least they have the excuse of severe storms this time.

A lot less fighters sweep the skies over Taung Gyi before the bombers came in and hit the airfield and some troops. After that the British horde there attacked again. I was not expecting another attack so soon, and two my divisions were moving out of the base, but they still put up a good fight.

Ground combat at Taung Gyi (59,48)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 142491 troops, 2183 guns, 2058 vehicles, Assault Value = 4449

Defending force 40157 troops, 346 guns, 84 vehicles, Assault Value = 1295

Allied engineers reduce fortifications to 2

Allied adjusted assault: 5853

Japanese adjusted defense: 5779

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 2)

Allied Assault reduces fortifications to 2

Sub Warfare:
I-164 surfaces and attacks LCT-129 with its deck gun scoring several hits before the ship suffers a massive explosion and sinks. The LCT managed to damage the sub with a few hits from its 20mm cannon.

Mine Warfare:
LCT-60 hits a mine at Sarmi and sinks :)
Two enemy AMs begin clearing the minefield in the shallow waters east of Biak but are interrupted by a Nell attack which hits them both with torpedoes sinking them !!

Burma:
More night air strikes at the port at Ramree Island prove fruitless so they have been cancelled moving forward. I thought about doing a full strike during the day with heavy fighter escort, but need to play a little defensive here and I have 75k supply being unloaded at Rangoon my fighters are currently protecting.

Enemy Fighters sweep Taung Gyi and then the bombers roll in. Following the bombs the British horde attacks again, lowering the forts to 1 and inflicting almost even losses. I don't think I'm going to be able to pull any troops out before they become disorganized and abused from retreating :(

My CVs and BBs have escaped detection and will return to Singapore for replacements, rearming and refuelling.

SRA:
Fighters sweep Dobo and B-24s cause minimal damage to the airfield.
