The Weight of Freight

Post by Wiedrock »

This Test is supposed to show how much weight is in 1 freight.

Since only planes are giving us proper units this test is being done using planes.
Since the result wasn't clear and the manual mostly speaks of "tons", I decided to give each material an own "intermediate" Unit and named them Aton and Fton.

The test contains things to look at:
  1. Ammo/Need before -> after
  2. Fuel/Need before -> after

  1. Ammo/Need -> "Unit": "Aton"
    • Mission (Sortie) Ammo:
      24Sorties*3080lb=76800lb
    • Aton consumed:
      477Aton-439Aton=38Aton
    • 1 Aton contains:
      76800lbs/38Aton=2021lb/Aton
    In other tests the result was clearer by having exactly 2000lb/Aton when 20 planes were flying (since there was no rounding going on).

    So 1 freight -> 1 Aton contains ~2000lb.
    • Fuel/Need -> "Unit": "Fton"
    • Mission (Sortie) Fuel:
      24Sorties*2778lb=66672lb
      The game uses 0,75kg/l for converting fuel volumes to fuel weights.
    • Fton consumed:
      631Fton-598Fton=33Fton
    • 1 Fton contains:
      66672lb/33Fton=2020lb/Fton
    Due to rounding it's hard to reach the "perfect 2000".

    So 1 freight -> 1 Fton contains ~2000lb.

Result:
So now we know, that 1 freight is supposed to be 2000lb which in return is 1 ton "US" or short ton "ST".

What is the practical application of this knowledge?

Or done in order to understand the numbers?

First of all, since I live in a metric country I wanted to make sure I understand what they are talking about if they say "tons". Additional some numbers are metric, others are non metric in game, so....yea I like to know what I am looking at. :roll:

Second reason is to give freight a unit/"a face".

Third, I try to figure out how the "Ammo Use" and "Fuel Use" values of Ground Elements/Tanks have been determined and in how far they are determining the usage/needs of Divisions in ground combat, therefore I need some numbers to have units.

I'm glad you proved what we thought we meant when we said tons. BTW, in the editor, you enter values in 1/4 ton points, but all of the in-game displays should display tons. In places in the game you'll see it's actually tracking pounds (I think I've seen pounds used in the supply details for the supplies used number, when the values get very small).
All understanding comes after the fact.

Yes I noticed that somehow when looking at the Ariframe/Chassis production, getting my head around that will take a while. :lol:

The 1st unversial constant in WiTE2 is:

freight = 1 US Ton = 2000 lbs

The 2nd in WiTE2 is regarding AVGas:

1L = 0.75 kg (1.653 lbs)

Sorry you felt the need to confirm the weight of freight. ;)

standard aviation fuel only, there are some aircraft using Diesel or jet fuel which I believe was slightly heavier.

You are spot on correct. But I haven't seen that in WiTE2 yet when running the numbers.

I believe it is closer to 0.72 kg / L, but suspected WiTE2 standardized on 0.75kg/L for simplicity.

https://airfactsjournal.com/2022/04/a-h ... -gasoline/

Most of the German ladeplans I have enountered have a conversion rate of 600kg/830L, which comes out to approximately 0.723 kg/L. (which would mean the aircraft could carry more fuel using that ratio).

Never-the-less, I haven't encountered any aircraft yet in WiTE2 using different weight-to-volume fuel ratios. Nothing in the aircraft data that seems to indicate this either. It would have to be hard-coded in the game somewhere. :(
