Unit Information Screen

Post by RocketMan »

Edit: I updated this with all the answers below to make it easier on the next poor sucker with the same questions. Thanks to everybody who took the time to respond.

I have some questions about the Unit Information Screen, but first the usual caveats: I did read both versions of the manual (old/new) and searched the forum with the built in search function and also using advanced Google search.

The picture below is from the manual (page 178, Revision 7-31-2022) and some of the information is not explained or not explained well. There are 4 questions I have, with the red numbers 1-4 on the picture showing the area in question.
  • 1. What do the numbers in parentheses mean? Answer: Number of disrupted units.
    2. The manual says: "The 56/72 indicates the total number of non-disabled (ready) and disabled elements
as a percentage of the units TO&E." The first number, 56, is obviously calculated by dividing the sum of the x numbers in the second column by the total unit TOE. But how is the second number, 72, calculated? Answer: First number is total of non disrupted units divided by total unit TOE. Second number is total of non disrupted + disrupted units divided by total unit TOE.
    3. What does the "+" represent? Answer: From the manual page age 179 Revision 7-31-2022: "Also a + symbol next to a under-strength device indicates more of that device are in the pool. An “=” symbol indicates that the device can possibly upgrade from the pool. An ** indicates a weapon not allowing split units to combine."
    4. Some units have an "*" (asterisk) here. What does that mean? Answer: The asterisk means the unit has an Upgrade Due.
    5. Why is the "Attached To:" Unit sometimes selectable and sometimes not? Answer: "If it's not selectable it means that the Unit is Restricted [R], Temporarily Restricted (R), or Static [S]. Manual Page 175 Revision 7-31-2022.

I figured out 1 and 2.

1. The number is parentheses is the number of disabled elements. Page 185 Revision 7-31-2022: "Disabled elements (the numbers listed in parenthesis on the Ground Unit Information Screen)"
2. The 72 is calculated by adding the numbers in parentheses to the x numbers in the second column and dividing by the unit TOE. (ready+disabled elements)/TOE elements.

EDIT: Answer to 3 is in the manual as well. Page age 179 Revision 7-31-2022: "Also a + symbol next to a under-strength device indicates more of that device are in the pool. An “=” symbol indicates that the device can possibly upgrade from the pool. An ** indicates a weapon not allowing split units to combine."

    Disabled squads and devices.
    2. The manual says: "The 56/72 indicates the total number of non-disabled (ready) and disabled elements

I don't recall offhand and I don't worry about that.
    3. What does the "+" represent?
More squads or devices are needed to bring the unit up to full strength. Click on the "Show unit TOE" to see the full strength. For the brigade, there should be 108 total squads.
    4. Some units have an "*" (asterisk) here. What does that mean?
I would have to see a picture of said unit but it may be a subunit of a subunit.
By the way, that leader is not very good, I would suggest replacing him before any combat occurs with that unit. He is not even good to build/rebuild the unit. Also, the unit needs training so don't change the preparation target either. Once the preparation reaches 100, the unit's experience and/or morale can increase.

Thanks for the answers.

The picture is the one from the manual not from a game I'm playing. No idea what scenario that screenshot was taken from.

Sorry, had to re-read your answer to 2 to understand it.

These are current strength figures compared to their TOE as a percentage. The first figure is the current ready strength of the unit, the second figure is current max strength. In this case the unit is a 56% ready and 72% max strength of it's TOE.

The asterisk means the unit has an Upgrade Due.

Go to the all units screen and take a look…..Toggle in the upper
Right hand corner to Show Hard.

In the case below:

The Mouse over shows TOE can upgrade now and upgrade is on.
The unit is 1 Day behind on the upgrade.

On the unit screen toggle show unit values and it will tell you the
unit can upgrade now.

If you mouse over the text a Flyout will tell you what you need to do
to upgrade the unit.

So that is what it means. The computer always surrenders on the 1st of January 1943 and I don't feel like going on after that.

This is why this forum lasts so long, and with so many posts. When a new player takes on the game they will be on the forum for at least 5 years getting enhanced knowledge! I've been around 11 years and still see good info that I previously didn't know or forgot/didn't think I would ever need. :D

Thank you for the replies.

I have owned the game since release but haven't played it in years. It's easier to relearn the second time, but still not easy!

Another question. Sometimes the "Attached to" HQ Name (3rd line from the top on the left) can be selected (text is in yellow). Sometimes it can't (text is in white).

Why can't the HQ attachment be changed sometimes?

Again, I'll answer my own question.

It means that the Unit is Restricted [R], Temporarily Restricted (R), or Static [S]. Page 175 Revision 7-31-2022.

Only 11 :D I forget stuff. The other thing that happens is a patch comes along and subtly alters things.

Although the initial manual covers the main stuff patches have significantly change how it works over time. Theses changes are mostly reflected in the new manual.

As most (all?) your questions are answered by others, I just want to point out few things:

- that commander is total garbage
- that unit is quite garbage too (16th Indian Brigade)...with Exp 30 and Morale 30.

I would say that unit is best used now to fulfill garrison requirements. 30 morale will increase the chances of unit getting totally destroyed in combat (think of it as catastrophic rout). 30 Exp means it is minimally combat effective.

Ways to remedy that is keeping unit set to same target. When preparation reaches 100, unit starts to train it's Exp to national maximum (maximum before any combat). Raising morale is done by placing unit into non-malarial base with decent commander (good Leadership, Inspiration and Admin, don't waste your *best* commanders in unit like that), also using Rest/Training operational mode helps.

I'll remember that if I play that scenario.
