With the situation precarious around Voroshilovgrad Gen Schlemmer ( XXXXVIII Pz Korps ) launches a counterattack routing two enemy units and retakes Krasnodon, a large Tank battle ensues with the Panzer Div's facing 2 Tank Corps and a Guard Mech Corps and assorted enemy Inf units.
Meanwhile Von Kluge orders units from 9th Armee and Kempf's Armee to be sent South, 2 AmeeKorps are hurriedly railed to the battle zone.

Taking advantage of the on going battles Northwest of there positions Paulus ( 6th Armee ) and Ruoff ( 17th Armee ) start to push out from there defence lines and begin advancing North further into the Stavropol region gaining valuable territory.

Situation Report May 20th 1943 Turn 27
Army Group A

XXXX Pz Korps ( Schweppenburg ) supported by VI Korps ( Balck ) destroy the trapped troops, part of XXXX Pz Korps moves to support III Pz Korps ( Breith ) preparing to attack the encircled enemy troops while other elements of the Pz Korps push on towards Grozny, reports coming into 1st Pz Armee HQ indicate that the Panzer spearheads are just 20 miles from the oil producing centre of Mozdok.

However disturbing new Intel is received by Kleist, Aerial Recon has detected Guards units moving South towards Budenovsk, this Army appears to be trying to reinforce what's left of the 46th Army, while this could make things difficult the news of Guards Units being sent here signals the desperate situation the Soviet High Command is facing, 8th Guards Army was part of the main force attacking at Voroshilovgrad.

Intel also tells that again the enemy is pulling more troops desperately needed in other areas of the front to The Caucasus, more Inf units have been spotted digging defensive positions around Grozny where the remains of 39th Army has fallen back to, this is good news as it weakens the enemy in other vital areas.

With the weather clearing in the Leningrad region 18th Armee begins to make a push forward towards Tikhvin, Volkhov and Novaya Ladoga despite the strong presence of enemy troops heavily fortified in the area.
Leningrad itself remains isolated along with Oranienbaum while Osinovets is barely supplied from ferries and small ships across The Ladoga lake.
South of the Leningrad sector units from 18th Armee and Kempf's units have made contact with Soviet Armour and Infantry from 1st Tank and 2nd Guards Army's, Kempf's forces once again try for a flanking movement to force back or encircle the enemy.

South of the Kursk battle the Soviets throw whatever forces they can find and attack the Hungarian positions in front of Belgorod, 3 Tank Corps supported by Guards inf which appear to be new formations along with various Inf units from the remains of shattered Armies from the Southwestern Front.

After there initial push on Voroshilovgrad was halted then forced back by XXXXVIII Pz Korps the Southern Front regroups its forces and attacks again however the timely arrival of German reinforcements to the area once again halts any Soviet breakthrough.

With situation very favourable along the Black Sea Front, Paulus has requested all 17th Armee units covering 6th Armee'e flank be reassigned to his Command giving him a more operational and tactical control on his front lines.

The Situation on the Soviet side seems confused, units that were digging at Grozny have now pushed forward, advancing but with a lack of cohesion and discipline, this allows our mobile forces to out flank and encircle them.It appears that there is almost a total break down of Soviet " Command, Control and Communication " doctrine allowing us to destroy there forces piecemeal.

Intel reports indicate Stalin has reissued Order 227, as prisoners from the 8th rifle division captured in the fighting and being interviewed by intelligence officers speak of there field Commanders ordering that any troops retreating from battle would be shot. This seems to confirm the disjointed and disorganised nature of the Soviet actions in the Grozny defence.
