Wow! Is that a diorama made up of 1/6 scale miniatures? It's hard to tell if it's real or miniatures.Schlonz wrote: Sun Aug 31, 2025 5:17 pm It's 1/6 scale ("action figures")....requires a lot of space...great for outdoor dioramas though![]()

Wow! Where was all this stuff when I was a kid? I mostly remember 1:48, 1:35, 1:76, 1:72, and 1:285. This is like a World War II buff's dream! Especially liked the Operation Varsity photos.Rebel Yell wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 4:37 pm Check here if you'd like to see a ton of 1/6 scenes shot outdoors.

Indeed. I enjoyed GI Joe in the early 70's, but I would have spent every dime to have 1/6th figures and vehicles like those.GaryChildress wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 12:46 amWow! I guess as a kid you would have lacked the funds to buy that cool stuff.GaryChildress wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 12:46 amWow! Where was all this stuff when I was a kid? That's true also, but were these things around back then? Circa 1970s? I don't remember ever seeing anything like them.Schlonz wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 7:36 amI guess as a kid you would have lacked the funds to buy that cool stuff.GaryChildress wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 12:46 amWow! Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
Very cool. I just placed an order with BPM for 1 of each of 6 different WW2 German vehicles, in 1/144th scale. I'll post a pic of them when they arrive. I ordered them about 4 days ago and they're still in the "processing" stage. Takes them a while I guess.Schlonz wrote: Wed Sep 03, 2025 9:41 am Okay, back to the initial topic:

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
Before you paint them, do you put a coat of primer on them? Also, do you use an air brush, spray can, or regular brush when you paint them?Schlonz wrote: Wed Sep 03, 2025 9:41 am Okay, back to the initial topic:

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
First I clean them with warm water and a dishwashing detergent, after that they are primed (Vallejo spray can) and
painted with acrylics and regular brushes. A final coat of clear varnish won't hurt either.

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
So the final coat you put on with brushes, and the only spraying you do is for the primer, is that correct?Schlonz wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 5:22 pm First I clean them with warm water and a dishwashing detergent, after that they are primed (Vallejo spray can) and

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
- primer -> spray can
- the paint job -> regular brushes
- I would use the airbrush for applying the clear varnish
You should try washing and drybrushing techniques to add depth and highlights to the models.

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
What color primer do you use, just a gray color or one that is the same color as the main finish color for the vehicle?Schlonz wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:12 pm - primer -> spray can

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
I'm using a light grey primer, but in the end it's a matter of personal preference.
If you're only going to paint (mostly) green military models, a green primer is a good choice.

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
According to BPM, my order is now "complete" and is no longer in "processing". I'm not sure if that means they have shipped them or not. It doesn't say.Schlonz wrote: Fri Sep 05, 2025 6:41 am I'm using a light grey primer, but in the end it's a matter of personal preference.

The Bradleys I ordered only came in two pieces, the hull and the turret, and the turrets fit snugly on the hulls; however, it looks like some of your vehicles have machine guns as separate pieces. Do they require glue or cement to attach them, and if so, what kind should I use when mine arrive?
Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
I use superglue/Cyanoacrylate to fix the small parts to the models, usually after cleaning, before priming.

Re: 1/144th Scale Miniatures
When I was a teenager, I had problems with 1/35 scale models painting and glueing. It was even more difficult to me with 1/72 scale models, lol. How on earth do you paint the black tracks on such small models?

I'm wearing my reading glasses and work with a magnification lamp.
Otherwise I would hardly see if I'm painting a triplane or a tank.
