Missing Manpower Calculator

Post by Wiedrock »

Did you ever wonder how many men you are missing to fill out all units you have?
YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT SPOT!

This Document/Calculator is intended to show exactly that, since it is missing in game.

What it does:
It uses the exported CSV files for OBs and Unit (Ground Elements) to calculate the Manpower for each TOE.
Next, it uses the Imported Commanders Report CSV Export "Unit-Main.csv" and counts the units using individual TOEs.
These are then multiplied by the before calculated manpower. This way we get the "Need".
Then the "Have" is being calculated, this is more straight forward, since this info is perfectly inside one column of the CR export. Adding these up does the trick.
Then Needs and Haves are compared and some settings have to be picked depending on what you want to analyze.

If you find errors let me know!
If there are questions, just ask.

Access.

Download/Copy the Document and follow the instructions.
Note that I am using German formats, so there may be issues with numbers. Not sure in how far you are able to/have to change this to anglo formats.

HOW TO USE:
In Game:
"1. Open the Commanders Report (CR)
Key""C" to open the CR while in game."
2. click EXPORT in the top-right
3. Done with the ingame clicks.

Inside this Document (after Downloading/Copying it):
1. Open Sheet "CSV Unit-Main"
2. Go to Menu and IMPORT/Import from CSV (depends on the software you use).
"3. Select UPLOAD and go to your game Folder
...\Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2\Dat\CSV\Commander's Report"
4. Select your just exported CSV file with the ending "Unit-Main.csv"
5. Choose "replace current sheet" (or similar order)
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE "CSV Unit-Main" OPENED or manually "overwrite it".
6. Now change your Faction and all the other settings
7. Have fun analyzing.

Notes:
  • Note: Soviet Totals are also correct if you do not "check" the Rumanian Surrender while it already happened.
So clicking it will just separate the numbers to better visualize between "Rum." and Soviet troops.
For the Axis side I left it so, that if you select "Rumania has Surrended", it will set Rumania to 0 (even if actually there are still Rumanians around), so as to see how many men you lose if you expect Rumania to surrender in the near future.
After adding the individual nations dropdowns/pickers this function is now twice available.
  • Air Bases have a fixed TOE but many are empty. I chose to count all Air Bases which contain more then 20Manpower to not multiply unused Air Bases.
Still, the manpower "Need" will not be accurate, since this need depends on the amount of planes stationed on an Air Base.
Simultaneously, Air Bases containing more than 100% planes, will have a higher ""Have"" than what the TOE "Needs", so this is also messing up accuracy.
Nevertheless, it should still give an idea on how many men are currently in Air Bases (accurate) and how many may be needed (off by 10-50% or so).
Calculation provided without guarantee!

Bugfix:
  • The whole Rumanian surrender contained a "Needs" error, fixed in the new version.
Changes:
  • Changed the organization/UI to be as compact as possible.
  • It now detects automatically if you have uploaded a Soviet or Axis CSV export.
  • It now detects if Rumania has surrendered (if any "Rum."-named units are inside a Soviet CSV).
  • I changed how some numbers are shown/not shown upon certain settings and those are used to add things up.
  • Added some more colour changes to texts to indicate "inactivity" by grey letters to TBs, Nations and Air Base Men.
New:
  • I added TB selectors. (self explanatory)
  • It now detects "split Units":
    • On Axis side, all Units contaning a "/ + Division" in their name and being of size "III" (Regiment) will be taken into account.
    • On Soviet side, all Units containing a "/ + Corps" in their name and being of size "X" (Brigade) will be taken into account.
It does this by counting the total Units with TOE X, this number contains all the split units, it then counts all "split units" by the mentioned rules and multiplies this number by "/3*2" before substracting it from X.
    example:
If it counts 15 "Divisions", before it would multiply these 15 with the needed manpower for the TOE.
Now before doing so, it substracts all those surplus "entities".
If you'd have 9 Regiments amongst those 15 "Divisions" if will end up being: 15-(9/3*2)=9 full Divisions.
If some Regiments are in other TBs or destroyed the math will still be about fine.
  • I added an editable/temporary AB Need modifier (Air Bases have ususally most men they need, a 0.7-0.8 value in there seems reasonable I suppose. Until one figures how to easily/properly calculate the Needs accurate without tons of Spaghetti code.
  • I added some more info on Aircraft:Manpower ratios.

Known Bugs/issues:
  • Once weird mixes of Nation/TOE-Nation (e.g. Axis Generic using German TOE, or Nation X using Nation's Y TOE occur, things for those few units are off.
  • As said before and mentioned in the File, the Air Base Needs are inaccurate and need to be reduced by the added modifier (which everyone can play around himself, I suggest ~0.7-0.8 for now).
  • The Need calculation after the detection of "split units" isn't 100% correct, since not every TOE gets in game perfectly divided into 3 (for obvious reasons), so the calculated Needs may be slightly off, but just by very few men.
  • I just now added the automation to Faction and Rum. surrender, I left the old "checkboxing areas" for now, maybe at a later stage when rearanging the UI they may go.
If you find further bugs, have suggestions, let me know.
