Boosting a unit's vehicles

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Boosting a unit's vehicles

Post by Metalist »

Is there anyway to boost the number of a unit's vehicles? Some of my mechanized divisions lack vehicles so they have low movement points. I put them on a national source with supply priority 4 in refit mode but they do not receive any extra vehicles. Any ideas?

smells like insufficient vehicles in pool so none may be spared. Or lots of vehicles in repair. You might want to check how many vehicles are used by depots.

Indeed pool is low and many vehicles are in repair. But I'd expect the game to let me transfer newly produced and/or repaired vehicles to certain units even if that means harming some others. This is how I would prepare for a big offensive in a local sector, for instance.

I refitted a routed mechanized unit to full strength but it has only 16 MPs since it has only quarter of the amount of trucks it requires. If I can't find any solution to this it will spend the rest of the game in a crippled state since it is unlikely that the state of vehicle pool will improve for Germany (the date is May '44).

prevent units from routing as that will cost catastrophic vehicle losses apart from men/equipment.
maybe set some units to static to free some trucks but that should only be done on somewhat peaceful regions
maybe even disband units with low experience like the non-elite Luftwaffe Field Divisions often have.

I appreciate the help, but they are hardly solutions. Disbanding infantry units do not make sense since they have very few trucks. Setting static is no longer option when it is D-Day time.

If there is no any other suggestion then I come to conclude that this is an oversight of the game. A few turns ago 1st SS Panzer division has arrived from the East with %70 TOE and %10 trucks. Now I refitted it to %90 TOE, but it still has the same amount of trucks. It has just 8 MPs, basically an infantry division with a lot of tanks.

When I refit a unit the game should not only prioritize it in terms of the manpower and equipment it receives, but also trucks even if that means depots or other units receiving less. Otherwise it does not make sense to refit motorized units.

Do you think playing with EF box on would be helpful in having more control over truck allocation? Maybe at least units would not arrive in useless shape like the 1st SS. Or can I mod the refit option to include trucks?
