Cavalry units and pursuit

Post by Yaab »

I know cavalry units are few, use infantry movement speed and their cavalry devices are bulkier (higher load cost) due to horses.

However, do cavalry units have some under-the-hood bonus when set on Pursuit orders after a successful battle? I have never tested it but it sounds plausible.

Just a random thought.

I haven't seen any improved effect with a Cavalry set on pursuit. I think firepower/morale/encouragement/land skill has more effect on how well a pursuing unit does.

It seems to be based on movement rates (manual 8.3.1).

Cavalry doesn't seem to get higher movement rate, armoured unit does.

As a horseman myself... and a military geek - I would say that in most of the terrain on the map it should not be the case, and in addition, not all the units could be mobile enough to take any advantage...In WW2, almost all the time, cavalry was just mounted infantry. Though Cav units were used to good effect in anti-partisan roles ( in say mountain terrain). The age of pursuit and exploitation ended in WW1, really IMO.

I was expecting that based on infantry movement rates used by cavalry in game, but thought maybe someone observed some bonuses.

Ok, do you know if there are proper Mountain or jungle units, and do mountain units have a symbol in the editor? I do not know, but you would like some units to be designated mountain and or lights. I did this in my mod by making sure the TOE includes only light equipment types.

There were some of the TO&E upgrades which removed heavier devices from some units for the Commonwealth countries.
