Turn 20. I want to make a brief assessment and, with it, bring this AAR to a close, as its aim was to show the opening stages of the campaign. I love the game; there is a variety of options and situations that are truly worth highlighting.
So then, in this wrap-up, if we look at the naval side, we can see that in capital ships we have lost the ones shown in red, while the Republicans have suffered losses in those shown in green. Sinking 2 enemy destroyers, given the small number of ships, the low level of readiness, and the few weapons available to counter them, I take as a small success. Not so much on the merchant-war side, where we have only managed to sink a few ships.

Turno 20.

Image
Nothing to say about all the ships of the Nationalist side that have been sunk. We have really taken a good beating in these early turns. It must also be acknowledged that I have been very aggressive in an attempt to move troops from North Africa and the Canary Islands to the Iberian Peninsula.
The Nationalist side is not ready to carry out such a bold move at the outset, with zero air support and limited naval strength. Hence the fact that the airlift from Morocco to Seville (for example) is of vital importance (just as it was in reality).

Image
In the air war, there is little to comment on. The Nationalist side has virtually no aircraft to confront the Republican side in the early stages. Little by little, air units begin to arrive, both our own and those of our Italian and German allies.

As a final snapshot, I’m leaving you with statistical data from turn 0, the mid-game turns, and this last one. It shows how things have evolved in terms of number of bases, victory points, ships sunk, air losses, and so on. A summary of what has happened and what we’ve been reporting along the way.

I would like to thank the entire War in Spain 1936–1939 team for the opportunity they have given me to write this AAR and to take part in the game’s beta. I feel that a part of my country’s history, and my own family history, is being portrayed as faithfully as possible, which allows us to tell some incredible stories and gives us a chance to delve even deeper into the events that took place there.
Because in the end, while you play, you end up looking for information, watching videos, reading books and articles… it becomes a way of enriching our culture through games. So once again, many thanks for this opportunity, and see you on the battlefield!

Well done, this was really informative! Love the pictures and descriptions!

As a veteran WITP-AE player, I cringed when you took those damaged ships to sea.......Espana, Navarra, and Velasco all start with alot of damage (since they were in the middle of refits). I would probably play it more conservative and try and get the Sys and Eng damage down before heading south, but that's just me........though I understand as the Nationalists that's all you have early-on

IIRC, Espana had a turret out of action at war start, so repair of that might have to wait.

Espana had only 4 functional main guns at the beginning of the war.
After about 3 months, another 2 guns were repaired and put into operation.

In 1938, it was possible (although only hypothetically, since she sank in 1937) to re-arm the original 8 main guns.

This is how it is modeled in the game.

Navarra (ex Reina Victoria) is a completely non-functional ship. Disarmed of the main armament and essentially retired as a floating ship.
She served as a training area for the artillery cadet school, which is why I left several small-caliber weapons on this ship.
This ship is facing an almost two-year general reconstruction (and to be honest, it is best to send her to Germany after emergency repairs so as not to block the limited capacity of the Spanish shipyards)

I would also like to point out that some aircraft types (Bre 19, DH.89, Fokker VII, Ju 52 and others) can be converted in the game for a different purpose.
For example, the Bre 19 has two possible versions, as a recon or as a light bomber.
You can invoke this conversion by clicking on the image of the aircraft...
(most conversions are available from 8 months onwards, which is indicated by the blue color)

Might be display differences, but in WITP-AE, usually the SYS and ENG damage is separate from disabled weapons.....SYS Damage impacts all ship operations, and in WITP-AE would be repaired ideally before she put to sea, even if the 2 wing turrets are disabled (which would make her a Pre-Drednaught!). IIRC, Espana was in dry-dock and under repairs, so makes sense she was "damaged".

Probably Nationalists just have to live with having no Navy until the Cervera is ready
