Combat Resolution Window - Oddities

Post by Wiedrock »

Small list of Oddities/Bugs regarding the Combat Resolution Window (CRW) which may be confusing or missleading.
If there's more to be added, let me know.
  • TOTALS are missleadingly large see
see first section of the picture below

  • DESTROYED (DAMAGED) checkbox shall not be used in the 'Ground Losses' Tab (this "doubles" the numbers). see
see second section of the picture above
  • Decimals for HPE are missleading see
As can be seen below, zeros are arbitrarily left out of being visualized, interestingly the sorting works using the actual number, so it's just a visual bug "leaving out 0".
The visuals are correct when there are 2 decimals, when there is only one decimal and that one isn't "0", then there's a "0" missing before/(left of) the one shown decimal.

  • FPE for "negative RoF" guns may be missleading

  • Retreating side's "lost" number may be slightly missleading
Parts of that number may be escaping and directly put into the Manpower Pool without them being mentioned as escaped.

  • GROUND HQ number includes all Units with any SUs attached. see
Also see picture above, German side listing 3 Ground HQs while only one HQ is actually present.

  • Force numbers are missleading
The white numbers include DAMaged (and DISrupted - but they are another matter) elements and their manpower, so using the "Detail-Less" Combat resolution window, at the top of the picture below, likely gives a wrong impression about the actual combat capability of a force. see pic below

  • Fort reduction indicators do not provide info if they actually managed to reduced a fort level.
Note: Each Fort level has 50HP/Points, this Combat indicator shows exactly the number of those reduced. In other UI elements you then need to use percentages, which makes each "HP" be 2%.
To get proper info you either:
    • Look up the Defender Hex Fortification percentage in the Hex Tooltip before Combat and apply the math yourself (one point shown behind the Artillery/Engineer logo is 2% of a fort level).
    • change Combat "Message Level" to a higher level where this reductions are shown.
    • use the export combat CSV option and look up the CSV export.
    • Generally (except in cases where there was a Fort level 4/5 before in the Hex) if the enemy has a Fort lvl 3 and you get Artillery+Engineer to be 6 or larger, then one fort level was reduced before final CV calculations.
    Examples:
    • In the "worst case" you could attack with masses of Pioneer SUs, giving you a "30" but not actually reducing a fort level by doing so because Soviets started with a Fort Level of 190% and you only managed to reduce it to 190-30*2=130% [Fort 1(+30%)]
    • Often a Fort Level will be Level+10% (especially for Germans in good terrain). To reduce one fort level you therefore need "6" value to get the Fort reduced by one [2(+10%)→1(+98%)] before final combat CV calculations. Only achieving 5 in this case would get it to exactly X and therefore not reduce the fort level.
