Dismounts with NVGs, NVG equipped troops operating vehicles with no NVG or thermals

Post by tyrspawn2 »

I have two extremely important questions... and it seems like a key undermodeling/issue in the game:

1. Vehicle without NV or Thermal optic.. but dismounts have NVGs, their effective spotting range should be based on NVGs when using CSW because the troops can turn out and use NVG in conjunction with the CSW.. but it seems that it takes the vehicle's base spotting distance? e.g. M113 with NVG equipped troops should have a spotting range with the m2 .50 of at least the NVG.
2. If I force a dismount.. by using move dismounted SOP... it still seems my dismounts don't extend the unit's spotting range?

IMO these are critical modeling factors which reduce the realism of the game quite a bit. IS there a setting or way of enabling this i'm missing?

Based on a quick check of the code: If the game has this wrong, the problem is the other way around, by always including in spotting calculations the capabilities of all dismount teams and carriers, even though the dismount teams might have been mounted up or the carriers may have been sent to the back.

So the game gives you the benefit of the doubt, including NVG benefits on the move if dismounted teams have these, and NVG benefits when static if carriers "in the back" have these.
We'll investigate further.
