DLC idea.

Strategic Command: American Civil War gives you the opportunity to battle for the future of the United States in this grand strategy game. Command the Confederacy in a desperate struggle for independence, or lead the Union armies in a march on Richmond.

DLC idea.

Post by Patrat »

I think the game system would be perfect for recreating famous individual battles from the American Civil War.

Battles such as gettysburg, antietam, etc, would be fun to fight at the Brigade level using the SC system.

So does this sound like something the player base be interested in?

Depending on the scale the system would probably have to be further developed to account for elevation and terrain obstacles for ranged weapons. Direct-sight firearms and artillery firing straight through hills, woods and ridges wouldn't come off as too realistic.

At the Brigade level, combat would take place the same as it does in any SC game, between adjacent units, except for artillery which would have a 2 hex range.

The scale would be similar to the Crimean war scenario in the Concert of Europe DLC. The SC system worked very well, and very realistically, for that scenario. I played it many times during the beta test.

I think it is a great idea other games in the series have battles like this.

This is the last game to do this for the ACW:

We are doing something very similar with our WWI Battles for Ypres DLC.

Yeah, I saw the announcement.

That upcoming DLC announcement, got me thinking about how nice it would be to have a similar DLC for SC ACW.

I am working about that sort of system here : it will allow players to reconstitute battles of Civil war in the tactical scales they want (brigade, regiment, etc)

https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=416953

It will work with the SC3 war in EUrope engine because this opus ha smore types of units

After release, if some other modder want to use my stuff and my work to implement the mod on the ACW engine, they will be able to do without any pb, no any restriction for that

From a long time, I think that Hubert and Bill should orientate the SC serie to tactical scale in addition of strategic scale, to give us lot of historical opus (Napoleonic battles, Civil war battles, Us independance war battles, battles of end 19th, battles of middle age, battles or "Renaissance", Ancient battles : Rome, Carthage, etc)

That's the reason for what I have build a Ancient battle mod and a Napoleonic battles mod with the SC3 War in Europe engine (American civil war battles mod is the third part of this system) : to show how it could be possible to do that sort of system
