Must every game be overly complicated and complex to the point that it's not really much fun to play? I don't consider having some "basic" games to be a problem. The Avalon Hill board wargames I played back in the 1970s would be considered "way too basic" nowadays. I have withnessed over the years the advances in computer wargaming with more and more detail, as demanded by players, that add more and more realism and historical accuracy, for sure, but I'd say the "fun factor" has been sucked out of such games.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing more of those old board wargames adapted to the computer. They were fun to play, over and over and over again with different strategies. Games, for fun. They really are not a problem.

it might look simple on the surface. But in a two-player game, especially online it’s not really the mechanics that create depth it’s the decisions. When you’re up against another person every move timing choice and risk you take matters a lot more. Even with simple systems, the game can get pretty deep because you're constantly reacting to what your opponent is doing rather than just following a set pattern.

But this has been done to death already. This one is actually just a remake.

Total Victory: World Conflict 1939-1945 seems like something new instead, waiting that one with much more interest.

I agree with pzgndr. I started with Avalon Hill in the 1960s and in my old age I have gone away from games that are too complicated. When I was younger, I loved complicated games. Now, I'm looking for games that are not a chore to play.

The CEAW Grand Strategy mod fixed the game for two players. But the AI computer opponent was always lacking and never got fixed. This "remake" should resolve that deficiency for those looking for a more decent solitaire game than the original provided. Unfortunately, Hubert does not appear to be including the Grand Strategy mod improvements, but perhaps the game editor will allow the GS team to work its magic once more. That would be great.

That would be a shame not to have something like the GS mod as an option, as that made a huge diference to the Original, it added more shelf life and depth to it as the play ability of the Original was rather limited after while, still good but not as good
