Question to Hubert and Bill about AI

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Question to Hubert and Bill about AI

Post by welk »

Working on my Battle mod system, I noticed that AI seems more better in map that not exceed 125 x 125 hex (75x75 seems to be the ideal)

I also noticed that AI has curious actions : the more I play with the game in "tactical battles" (I am essentially a AI player, because a very bad strategist  ), the more I see that AI seems to play like in a battle, not in a WW2 univers.

Is the AI coded to adapt his way to play to the actions of the player ? (in other terms, is the AI programmed to "imitate" the way the human player does use ?

Perhaps it's just hallucinations, but I have really the impression that, after some turns, AI "understands" how to move his own units like in a tactical battle, as I do myself. Very curious and funny sensation...

Hi, great to hear in some ways, but the AI is not currently programmed to play in any way that adapts to the player, it just typically does its own thing its own way pretty consistently.

What you may have noticed though is that it could very well be playing better on smaller maps, as there is less for it to consider. Just the jump from 75x75 to 125x125 adds an additional 10,000 hexes for it to consider, as an example.

Yes, I noticed that 75 x 75 is the ideal. I will use 50x50 for very small and quick scenarios, and 125x125 for more large scenarios (at this size, AI is plays also very good in my opinion).

The size 75x75 is perfect for my future mod, ASL Command (Advanced squad to battalion Leader command), that is directly inspired by the celebrity game "Advanced Squad Leader' (ASL).

I am working on some tests and with Fog of war actived, the AI is a the perfect partner I did hope in WW2 tactical scenarios : very funny to play this, I am building german and US forces for a first tool that will allow to create tactical scenarios for 1944 (Overlord, Falaise pocket, Avranches, Battle of the Bulge, etc). You will be surprised to see your game in a new original look : "Stra-tactic Command"

For this mod, I will use some terrains file of SC WITP, they are excellent and a lot improved in regard of my old "boardgame mod", that was a little bit too clear (Bleached map mod is better than mine, I think).
