Turn 15 (Execution Phase (this is execution of phase 14 planning by both the German and Allies)

Planning Phase

June 10 12pm Afternoon turn

Caen to Bayeux

Start Moving the 12th SS towards Caen - slowly moving other units into place of the 12th SS units. Looks like a mess but there is a reason to the Chaos.

Turn 15 (Execution Phase (this is execution of phase 14 planning by both the German and Allies)

Planning Phase

June 10 12pm Afternoon turn

Carentan

Still holding Carentan and still trying to blow the bridges. Moving some of the tanks back North towards Cherburg and finally have the bridges defended half way decent. Although I really need tanks in this neck of the woods :(

Turn 15 (Execution Phase (this is execution of phase 14 planning by both the German and Allies)

Planning Phase

June 10 12pm Afternoon turn

Cherburg

Spent some precious combat points to fire off the 709th and 243rd Artillery to see if we can disrupt / cause some losses to the Americans in the yellow box this turn. 28 points is the max you can have for an attack and I maxed out both of the attacks. Lets see what happens next execution phase.

Allied Turns 14 (0600-1200 10 June 1944) and 15 (1200-1800 10 June 1944)

Turn 14 (0600-1200 10 June 1944)

Only two Allied attacks this turn + 21st Panzer’s Counterattack vs. 27th Armored Brigade (defending the Southern approach to Pegasus Bridge).

Just West of Isingy, the 741st Armored Battalion + the 2nd Infantry Division’s Recon Company and one Infantry Regiment (Follow and Support . . . a.k.a., Moving Attack) vs. the 243rd Infantry Division’s Stug III Battery and an Infantry Battalion from the 30th Schnell Brigade / 7th Army’s NCO Training Academy (defending the East to West approach to the Vire River Bridge . . . one hex West of Isingy).

The 741st had 4 Shock Shifts but was unable to push the two units across the Vire Bridge.

Image

Next - piecemeal vs. together - came the Recon Company . . .

Image

and then the Infantry Regiment. Fortunately, the Regiment was able to force a retreat.

Image

The other Allied attack saw 6th Para(-) attacking East to seize the City of Cabourg, while the 22nd Armored Brigade (7th Armored Division . . . “The Desert Rats”) followed 6th Para(-)’s attack to strike (just to the Southeast of the city) the 346th’s Stug III Battery + and an Ost Battalion from the 711th Coastal Defense Division.

6th Para(-) attack . . .

Image

22nd Armored Brigade’s (Moving) attacks . . . Again, two Allied piecemeal attacks . . .

Image

Image

21st Panzer’s counterattack / Three Huzzahs for the King Navy . . . Huzzah, Huzzah, Huzzah . . . 52 points of Naval Gunfire Support!

Image

Like my two attacks above, the Germans could not synchronize their Reserve; three piecemeal attacks.*

1 of 3 . . .

Image

2 of 3 . . .

Image

3 of 3 . . .

Image

*Lesson Learned . . . Best to have your Reserve all start from the same hex, be all the same (i.e., “Leg Infantry” or Motorized / Armored), and all with the same number of movement points.

Turn 15 (1200-1800 10 June 1944)

Just one attack, East of Cabourg, to push back elements of the 346th and 711th . . .

Image

British Reserve . . .

Image

A view of the front (three screen shots) . . . Just South and East of Isigny, note the 29th Infantry (silver stripe / bottom of the counter) repositioning to face elements of Panzer Lehr (dark gray stripe).

Utah . . .

Image

Isingy to Bayeux . . .

Image

Bayeux to Cabourg . . .

Turn 16 (Execution Phase (this is execution of phase 15 planning by both the German and Allies)

Execution Phase

June 10 12pm Afternoon turn

Cabourg

Here is the beginning of the Execution phase for the turn with two battalions of 7th armor across the SE bridge from Cabourg. I am trying to hold with some rushed 346th Inf Battlions (orange bottom) and the remants of 711th Inf Div (they are all in very bad shape from their mauling in the last few turns)

I am also in open ground without tanks. This is not going to be good on column shifts not in my favor. I need tanks, AT guns, or self propelled guns in this area like yesterday!

The first attack to soften the defenders up was repulsed that came from across the bridge in the yellow box below.

Here is the detailed information on the 1st attack with an air attack by the British (they have Typhoons which give a two column shift int he game (wish I had some of those)) and the quality difference of the units involved

Turn 16 (Execution Phase (this is execution of phase 15 planning by both the German and Allies)

Execution Phase

June 10 12pm Afternoon turn

Cabourg

The second attack comes from a moving attack by tanks. With 4 column shift for tanks this 1:1 quickly turns into a 5:1 without anti tank capability on my part. My guys retreat.

Execution Phase

June 10 12pm Afternoon turn

Cabourg

Here is the end of turn for Cabourg area. I rushed in the firebrigade (the flak battalions) to at least put a damper on more progress in this area. It became evident I need a great deal more here than just a Broken division (711th) and 1/2 of the 346th.

The Allied player is trying to sneak a Canadian Bridge unit to repair the bridge. But I see him this time ;-P

Turn 16 (Execution Phase (this is execution of phase 15 planning by both the German and Allies)

Planning Phase

June 10 18pm Night turn

Cabourg

I have a gut feeling the allies will attack at night. So I order two soaking off attacks to try and delay the British at a minimum. See if it works next execution phase.

I spend some Combat supply and give all the artillery for defensive fire in support of the units on the hill.

Ok, so I got tired of having my butt stumped in this area of the map. Not playing around any longer and I send the 12th SS & 2nd PZ Divisions to the area since there are 2 Victory Point areas in this sector for my planned moves. Half of 21st PZ division will be following in the coming turns

**** still have 6 other battalions of 12th SS coming too which were in the Bayeux area

***** 2nd PZ Division wont get the rest of the Division coming on until turn 40!!!!!!!

The 6 yellow boxes are the 12th SS units that will be moving to the Cabourg area. Takes time for these things to happen.

This is the proposed planned moves for the turn. The new brown colored units are the 275th Inf Division coming online as a reenforcement this turn. The next big reenforcement is not until turn 25 :(

Planning Phase

June 10 18pm Night turn

Carentan and St Lo and Bayeux

The new light blue units near Bayeux are the 3rd Fallschirmjager Division which I will put NW of Bayeux yellow box. I still am trying to blow the bridges in the pink box. I still have not blown any more bridges by this DEMO bridging unit even up to turn 22 that we are on. Must be some serious negatives when next to units for sure because it sure feels like it!
