Suggestions regarding refueling and retrofitting

Post by 100thMonkey »

Earlier today, I've posted two bug reports. One is related to refueling, the other to retrofitting. But the two topics interact with each other (for those interested, see https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 9#p5291729 and https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 2#p5291742).

To help alleviate the problems underlined in those reports, I would suggest the following...

Some new policies

The addition of new policies to control if individual automated ships should automatically be:

- retrofitted
- refueled.

With 3 choices in each case: Yes / No / Ask.

Ideally, there would be such a policy for the military ships, and another for non-military state ships. And those for non-military ships could even be subdivided in one specific policy for the explorers, another for the construction ships, and another for the colonization ships.

Change to the policy for Fleets

Same principle for the automated fleets: a change to the existing policy so that instead of the binary Yes / No choice of the current one, the new one would also have a third option: "Ask".

Additional tactical settings for ships

For all the ships, two additional tactical settings that would allow to override locally the policies for those ships:

- Automatically retrofit (Yes / No / Ask)
- Automatically refuel (Yes / No / Ask).

That last one, if implemented correctly, could also allow the player to identify stupid AI "decisions" regarding where it wants to refuel.
- Imagine how confusing it is to a new player!
- Tedious is the opposite of fun
- "The welfare of the people…has always been the alibi of tyrants…giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience." – Albert Camus
